Premier League 2023/24: Luton Town vs Man United - Sun 18th Feb - 16:30 KO

Your point was we should beat them easy. But the two title chasing teams failed to and beat them by a goal. You don’t have a point once you acknowledge that.
I never said we should beat them easily. To be clear - Luton are not a terrible team and I don't think we should beat them 8-0 like I've already said. Don't make things up.

Thanks.

You literally did.

Another game another win. 5 in a row? ETH out. Getting us to be the form side in the league.

Should have had a hatful in the second half.

We made it a little hard for ourselves but a win is a win. Electric for 15-20 minutes, poor for 25 but I think we were fairly comfortable in the second half.

And breathe… United should have battered Luton in the second half. I’m exhausted.

Tough place to come and win so job very well done.

We are a work in progress so I don’t think we will ever achieve a perfect game right now but we are heading in the right direction.

How we didn’t score three or four in the second half though is beyond me!

The back four did pretty well second half in fairness, their keeper made some very good saves wouldn’t mind him in our goals if that’s a typical performance but we should have scored more as well.
4 wins on the bounce and another three points, we need a new left back this summer Shaw can’t be relied on now.
Mainoo’s booking was a joke he won the ball.
Two more goals from Hojlund and neither from getting service one a defensive mistake and brilliant how he turned Garnos miss hit shot in.

There has been plenty of false dawns with this team over the years since SAF left but you do feel we are a couple of players away from getting something special going.

We’ve got great young players in Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund. Now we just have to replace a couple in the first team that are either past their best or not consistent enough - thinking of Casemiro and Rashford here.

Maybe I am being over optimistic as we have been a train wreck this season at times but there could be something good brewing.

If you we're proven to be right and we are just a few players away from something special how do you expect us to do it with ETH throwing away £100m a season in transfer fees? Mount and Onana were complete wastes of money and seem more and more like panic buys to me. Add in Antony and you have a crippling loss and years of the same excuses. Now you feel like Casemiro is a waste of money too, and with Martinez seemingly crippled for all of time, many of the signings are having no effect. This will never build a team of any character. Just people who are failures and always injured.

Unsure how Mount could be seen as a panic buy. We had that deal tied up very early in the window.

I’d agree it was an odd signing. But a panic buy? Doesn’t fit the criteria of that at all. He was the player we wanted and we went and got him immediately.

There seems to a lot of fixation on what ETH has done wrong and not what he has done right. Promoting Mainoo and Garnacho to the first team. Hojlund is now proving to be an excellent signing. Martinez and Casemiro had very good first seasons. Admittedly I do think Casemiro needs to be moved on but he was a large part of why we won a trophy last year.

Eriksen was a decent guy to bring in on a free. No judgment can be made against Mount yet, the times he did play this season the team was a bit of a mess. On today’s showing and previous weeks Mount would offer far more than Bruno currently.

Martinez crippled? A guy gets a couple of injuries and suddenly he’s injury prone. Every player is an injury waiting to happen and Martinez has been unlucky he’s picked up a few.

As for throwing away money, every manager has bought duds. Pep has done it, Klopp has, Sir Alex did. It’s just another stick to beat ETH with.

It doesn't matter what excuses Martinez or Mount may have. They're not fit and don't offer anything. Up to now both can only be called a waste of money. Until any return can be gained they will both have to play a large amount of time in the team and be productive. Neither have been. Sure Martinez had a short run, I don't remember for exactly how long, but it was good enough to know he's good. That's all. That still isn't good enough. There may be something to be said of the way the manager is dealing with injuries - badly. Rushing people back and over using them. This is again a manager flaw.

What about the Luke Shaw situation? Was he rushed back too soon by the manager? I think so. Manager flaw.

I understand there is losses made by all managers concerning transfers - but the amount wasted by ETH is pretty special.

My point being, this simply cannot go on and do you really trust ETH to make our next signings?

Martinez a waste of money? I struggle to comprehend some people actually watch football when reading comments like that.

He’s been one of the best signings the club has made in a long time.

He’s 26 and will be an asset to the club for the next 7 years. Fantastic signing.

I agree mostly - he is fantastic. He has to start playing most games though week in and week out to be worth the money. He's been gone so long now that when he does come back and hopefull stays fit, people will be calling him a new signing and all that. You can't judge people on what they might be worth though, only what they are worth. Right now that is sweet FA.

Martinez is a very good player and in his case I think bad luck has been the cause, well I hope so anyway.
Mount is a strange one he had injury woes at Chelsea and we needed players in other positions before he was a priority,
Antony is a crap buy from top to bottom not only a very expensive buy but a crap player, very bad decision.
Onana is another, a big mistake.

Only saw the 2nd half then caught the rest on the highlights.

Think a lot of credit has to go to Ten Hag for those subs at half time they totally changed the flow of the game and really the chances we had second half we should have put them away by a much more flattering margin.

That spell in the first half is very worrying though we totally folded and lost control of the game for about 30 minutes as they just had shot after shot but luckily they never found the equaliser.

Hardest lead to hold in football is 0-2, even moreso away, same as it ever was ....

Hope how majestic Shaw was came across in the highlights. He was a colossus, no seriously!

I dunno I remember us making it look rather easy when we were quite good, this season 2 goal leads seem to be the point where the team all decide to drop a few pills and just space out.

To be honest he barely featured they didn't even show him going off injured.

Shame, that's the best thing he did all game ;)

More a Canadian thing I reckon, sure it comes from Ice Hockey. Much like actual Assists it's an absolute nonsense stat.

It might be actually, first time I heard the term was a few years back when I watched America against Canada in the Gold Cup and I just presumed the commentators were American.

:D

I looked around, and the same people are still behaving the same way, you give people MOD power, and it goes to their heads.
