Coronavirus in sport

Yeah definitely won’t be the last club - hopefully Wigan can find a buyer but that might be tough in these times as well.

12 point deduction puts them bottom of the league. Wonder if it’ll be implemented with the current climate.

Something's fishy on this one just read a Hong Kong consortium took them over last month so how can they go from takeover to administration in 1 month?

My guess is they're looking to screw the creditors to reduce the debt then hope that the 12 point deduction that the league will give them doesn't relegate them it would leave them 4 points adrift with 6 games to play.

The EFL has to enforce the points deduction if they don't other teams will kick off apparently Sheff Wed might be getting points deducted as well over financial issues.

Something seems very shady over this.

Wigan are on an impressive run. If they keep it up, even with the points deduction they could miss relegation.

Screwing the creditors sounds about right.

Got a feeling there is a rule that says if the points deduction doesn't relegate you then it's carried forward to the next season basically to stop clubs chucking the administration in when it doesn't really punish them.

If you're already relegated when the points are to be deducted, then the deduction happens in the next season. Wigan need to keep out of the relegation places until the deduction is made.

Rick Parry has been secretly filmed holding a staggering conversation with a Wigan Athletic supporter in which he said there was a rumour that the club's administration was linked to 'a bet in the Philippines on them being relegated'. A clip, posted on social media on Thursday night, shows the EFL chairman openly discussing the goings-on at the crisis-hit Championship outfit with a man in the street. Parry tells the supporter, who filmed the exchange and with whom Sportsmail has spoken, that there is a rumour that the administration which Wigan plunged into on Wednesday, was triggered by a bet.

Sheesh really? I haven’t got BT Sport on the TV but because I took out an EE phone contract I can stream the channels live on my phone/tablet.
I only realised at the weekend prior to the Bournemouth game that I could get BT Sport for £15 month on my EE (sim only) contract

Not really the appropriate place to put this but couldn’t see a championship thread and we’ve discussed Wigan in here.

They’re currently 7-0 up at half time. Against Hull. A result that puts them 12 points clear or Hull should that points deduction come.

What the? Just saw that myself. I expected to see a sending off for Hull or something but nope. Wow.

As I feared the 5 subs rule was being squeezed in under the premise it was needed because of Covid and now remains for next season.

Still needs to be voted in by the clubs in each league hopefully they vote against it but with next seasons start date already delayed then it’s going to be an intense season again with games every 3 days. I’m not a fan as I think it does give teams with bigger squads unfair advantages but flip side is we might see kids get more chances.

Glad the drinks break is going that’s been a total waste especially in the first half.

Currently UEFA still want euros played in July next year so leagues need to finish by end of May.

Surely domestic cups have to go next season along with all international friendlies and less european games has to be straight knockout with no group stages.

Do you think others will follow his footsteps?

Arsenal first team to announce impacts of covid on the club.

All revenue streams hit this season and next season not looking good either with stadiums either empty or half full, corporate facilities not expected to be as in demand, new sponsorship deals likely to reduce same with TV contracts.

Result is

55 redundancies
Executives, senior management and players all taking voluntary pay cuts

Got to imagine they are the first of many clubs who will be going through this process over the next few weeks.

Eight unnamed Aberdeen footballers have 'badly let the whole of Scottish football down,' after two were diagnosed with Covid-19 and six more are quarantining after heading out to Soul bar on Saturday night

I wonder what happens now assume that means their upcoming games are cancelled do they have to forfeit the games or will they just be re-arranged.

The Celtic and Aberdeen games off this week. Celtic defender Bolingoli took an unauthorised trip to Spain and then didn’t quarantine when he came back. Honestly the stupidity of some people is startling!

Only positive is the game is dealing with it the right way and not shirking the tough decisions to cancel.
Or are they?
I see Sturgeon has issued a stern warning to them.

Not quarantining when returning from holiday as is the rules should have a knock on the door from the police as a reminder. Infuriates me that people are coming back to Dorking from their holidays and then straight out down the shops. You knew the rules when you decided to go.

Could have a little bit of sympathy for those that were already out there when the rules changed but not now.

Reports today that Pogba and Ndombele have tested positive.

Chelsea reportedly have 6 players that have tested positive and 2 more quarantining. Jorginho, Barkley, Emerson, Batshuayi, Mount, Tomori, Abraham and Pulisic

Not totally surprising quite a few have travelled around on holidays although I’m not sure Pogba left the UK.

Just shows you how active this thing still is once they go outside the testing bubble and restrictions that go with it that the number of positive cases shoots back up.

26 weeks since we had premier league football in front of a crowd.

Current plans for fans to return in October remain touch and go

Mahrez and LaPorte test positive

They're required to isolate for 10 days with City's first game of the new season in 14 days both should be available.

Mason Greenwood under investigation for breaking quarantine rules in Iceland. I imagine he’ll be looking at a lengthy suspension for that.

Laporte and Mahrez test positive.

EDIT: Already posted I see.

Greenwood and Foden appear to have been caught getting girls back to their room while in camp in Iceland.

Both will be kicked out of the squad later today and I don't expect either will get a recall for a while Southgate is pretty big on discipline and he'll be massively p*ssed off at this one. They're young and will make mistakes but I think both will be out of the England setup for a while as a result of this.

Both could also be facing charges in Iceland for breaking the Covid protocols that come with their exemption from quarantine periods on sporting grounds.

Can't see their club managers being to impressed with their behaviour either.

Damn Phil Foden leading our Mason astray!

Yeah I suspect they will be out of the set up for a little while. They are young but that’s no excuse, they are old enough to know what protocols are and what not to do. This is why COVID will continue to be about because a small minority will always break the rules.

Not sure Foden's girlfriend will be to happy to hear about what he's up to Greenwood is single.

Confirmed both have been kicked out the squad and will return to the UK.

It's just young lads chasing skirt. I couldn't care less, mainly becasue it's only England duty

In normal circumstances yeah stuff like this isn't even news players have been sneaking girls into hotels for decades but doing it on an away trip when you're supposed to be in a secure bubble for quarantine reasons is a bit of a different story.

Sounds like they snuck out of the part of the hotel England were isolated in to go and meet these two girls.

The players have apologised to the team, been sent home and both clubs have released statements saying they're disappointed and I'm guessing both of them will be getting fined by their clubs over it.
