Just saw a stat, responsible for 79 goals in 105 games. 58 goals, 21 assists.

We've had some great forwards in my time, Hughes, RVN, Rooney, Cantona, no one in the 70's really jumps out maybe Jordan, Birtles (cough)

He's got to be the best surely. his Arsenal stats are pretty great too.

I’m not sure about him being the best. It’s a lovely list of strikers we’ve been blessed to watch. As an out and out striker it would have to be Ruud.

His 12/13 season is certainly the best I can remember though. He dragged us to 3 points in so many games. I was at the Southampton game at the very start of the season where he hit a last minute equaliser and then winner after missing a penalty. From that moment you could feel something special starting.

Just had a look at this league record in 12/13. 26 goals 15 assist. He was phenomenal and got Fergie that last title he wanted to retire with.

I remember Stapleton more than Pearson for some reasom, neither were very good to be honest :-)

RVP that first season was unreal technically I think he was a level we'd maybe not seen from any of our previous number 9's left foot, right foot, headers he was unreal. Ruud was an out and out scorer but the link play that RVP had as well meant he was a threat outside the box too.

Was a shame it only really lasted for one season things clearly went wrong post Fergie seems like it hit him hard and he never got his game back to anywhere near that level again.

Of course, being Scottish Denis Law (The Law Man) will not have a look in with you lot.

Doubt it's anything to do with him being Scottish. We all love Ferguson, take that nationalistic chip off your shoulder. There's a thread for that ;)

Might be more to do with the fact he retired in 1974 so not many remember him. He then went to play for City again for a season which some people hold a grudge about. But he's widely considered a part of the United Trinity and one of our best ever players. Football fans don't generaly give a crap where someone is from when rating them.

They were both of their time. Good target men but not great goalscorers. Stapleton was more 80s for United

Makes sense, I was born in 69 so 70's probably don't ring high in the grey cells. Especially as all I had was MoTD and cup finals. Never went to OT until much later in life.
