Coronavirus

Expected it to be announced that the north of England will follow from Monday is the latest on the rumour mill. But they're getting push back from the city mayors.

That's one way of attracting people back to the office. How much they charging for a pint?

For you it's free but the guy will be waiting at the gate to select someone "randomly" for the drug and alcohol test

I think these convoluted partial lock down rules just sow confusion and doubt about their necessity.

For example, people rightly question why if you're allowed only 15 people at your wedding, you can have twice the number at your funeral?

Why can I drink a soft drink inside a Scottish pub, but not an alcoholic one?

If pubs, clubs and restaurants have all put covid safe practices in place, why chuck everyone out at 10pm?

The Govt should fully explain their decisions, quoting the science behind each choice.

Or let us manage our own risks within a broader set of rules designed to limit infection where possible.

I think they’ve made a fundamental screw up with the 10pm curfew because it forces everyone out on to the streets at the same time.

I assume the logic behind it was as people get more drunk social distancing slacks.

Did you see the video of that guy getting told off because he moved his chair next to his mums to comfort her at his dads funeral?

He was on the radio, he arrived in a car with her, stood outside next to her, will get car a back with her, and have a wake, but he can't sit next to her for the actual service. o_O

My UK pub brewery knowledge is not what it once was. But one has just gone out of business. I think they said it was Green something.

Green King is closing about 80 pubs, but that's still a small percentage of its estate. Still, it's 800 jobs lost and a bunch of local communities diminished.

I thought the 10pm closure was more to help police enforce it stop businesses using loopholes to stay open later it's pretty clear cut now your business can't have people inside after 10pm.

I do think the reality is they didn't factor in putting everyone out on the street like at the same time would create a different problem.

Apart from the 10pm thing which I think is pointless the rules in bars/restaurants now are the rules we should have had back in July when they let places open again.

The last forced closure cost pubs a fortune. So much revenue lost, a huge quantity of beer and food had to be thrown away and then the costs of reopening covid safe were high. Many won't survive another long closure.

There's two clubs near me that used to close at 2am. Doors would open around 9pm.

Both now open at Noon and close at 10pm. Both have queues to get in.

How can a club be operating covid secure? Keeping groups to a maximum of 6 at all times, tables service only, wearing your mask whenever you get up from a table. Sounds like a dreadful club experience.

Sure does. Not a thing I would do, but many seem keen. Both places stress the rules at the door. Both places state that groups caught mixing will be expelled.

Guess for people still into that sort of scene might as well give it a go and see what it's like.

Talk round here is half term for the kids will be 2 weeks but it'll be 1 week of home learning and 1 week of actual holiday.

Can't imagine what this Covid stuff is like if you've got kids trying to keep them entertained without letting them mix with other households sounds like a nightmare.

Get a bit of Everything But The Girl on and its nae bother

Well driving to Scotland tomorrow and I was thinking of breaking my journey up and stopping in or around the Manchester area tomorrow night.
Its looking increasingly likely that the north of England will be going into lockdown so i guess I will just have to keep driving. Hiking around Loch Lomond Tuesday as a warm up for Ben Nevis on Wednesday, leg burnnnnnn from Thursday

I hate on the speculation as to what will/won’t be locked down. I wish they would just announce it already

Pubs, bars, gyms, leisure centres, bookies all to close in Liverpool from Wednesday as they are the first to go in to the very high risk measures. Measures to be reviewed every 4 weeks.

Restaurants stay open and can serve alcohol as part of a meal.

Was surprised at the length of time. Reviewed every 4 weeks is a long time.

I am in a Premier Inn in Scotland. Was able to book a table for tea, but no alcohol permitted.

Yeah seemed a bit long but I guess they need at least 2 weeks to assess the impact of the restrictions so 4 weeks should make a big difference.

Even Chris Witty doubted the impact these measures would have in the press conference he apparently favours the 2 week circuit break proposal as nothing stops the people of Liverpool travelling to areas with less restrictions.

Most deaths today since June. It is definitely on the rise again and I think ultimately we have to have some sort of circuit breaker lockdown to try and curb the spread - which Starmer has suggested today.

This tier system is okay but I really think some people are just exhausted of Covid and will flout the rules. It’s going to be a long winter I fear!

Andy Burnham also said he would prefer a circuit breaker as opposed to the highest tier for Manchester

Think the issue is they can’t force it into regions to many people travelling about in the UK for work or to study.

What’s become clear is stopping the lockdown on a national level when they did was mad as a lot of places especially in the north hadn’t flattened their curve.

The kids at uni should be sent home immediately to study from home it’s obviously not safe for them to be in halls.

The scientists are all saying the circuit break is the better solution but it’s obvious the government are bricking it over more damage to the economy. Hard to see how the 3 tier system will make much difference when kids are in school, people are at work and people can still socialise.

Cases here in the south remain pretty low so can see why they’re reluctant to lockdown these areas when they don’t have to.

1 kid getting sick has caused an entire year group to be sent home at the mrs school so with half term they’ll be off site for 2.5 weeks.

Yeah this three tier system won’t really have much effect in my opinion. Like you say jsp people can still go to work, kids can go to school etc. The government are definitely bricking it about the state of the economy so I doubt they will enforce this circuit breaker lockdown but it may eventually be taken out of their hands if cases and deaths continue to rise.

What do people expect to happen these changes need to be instant.

Apparently Manchester might be following to Tier 3 shortly.

Best I can presently say is, I have spent a few days in Scotland. Loch Lomond, Fort William and surrounding villages as well as Ayr and the Ayrshire villages.
It has really struck me how serious it is being taken and how well it is being managed and enforced, not just by the law but also locally by the people (that said I think they had just enforced new measures just before I arrived). There is full enforcement and compliance with masks, hand sanitiser is plentiful in all establishments whether it be a cafe, shop petrol station and folk in general seem more willing to tell you if you are falling short in complying, yet not once did I hear a dissenting voice.
This initially surprised me in the villages but then of course in the Highlands and the likes of Fort William they have the tourism so I guess they want to protect from visitors bringing it in. The hotels have been an absolute joy.
A bit of a different message from North Wales who seemingly say, piss off we don't want you here. Scotland appear to be saying, you will still be welcome but comply or die.
Things have changed so fast the last week I dont know what to expect when I arrive back South tomorrow evening.

So far we've not had any changes where I am but it feels like we're edging closer towards another national lockdown to be honest.

The track and trace system is failing if that doesn't get back on track quick we won't have a choice on lockdown they reckon it's only capturing 60-65% of contact cases at the moment the target is 80%+

I think generally compliance is pretty good but there's a growing minority who just want to be angry and fight against it because they need something to be angry about and the way media works even a small group of dissenters can get a loud voice because it fills the airways.

It feels like the mood of the nation is changing from lets work together and we'll get through this to just balls to this lets go back to normal and take our chances if we get sick.

got no idea what's going on here. Madness.

Got one daughter going to a party on Saturday, another travelling 40 mins to play in her basketball teams away match!

These local tiers are nonsense.

I've got a friend that lives in Sutton. We were supposed to be going for dinner Sunday. With the new tier 2 rules we can't. However instead of me going to her she's now going to do the 20 minute drive to me. We'll go for dinner here and that's absolutely fine.

I have just been watching guidance on BBC, I think your friend’s tier stays with her so she can’t go into another area and not have the tier two guidelines apply to her.

I believe that's only actually if you're in the tier 3 but will check.
