February 2012 – 4 appearances (3 starts, 1 as sub)
11 February 2012 vs. Watford (H) 1-1
Wootton’s debut came in a home fixture against Watford, which saw him selected at right back, in a Forest defence that included two other Premier League loanees (George Elokobi of Wolves, and Danny Higginbotham of Stoke).
Wootton linked well with Chris Gunter, who, playing on the wing in front of him, left plenty of space for him to move into. Wootton whipped in a couple of dangerous crosses, but his efforts were beaten away by Watford’s centre backs.
The second half saw the Manchester United man occasionally exposed, as first Alex Kacaniklic and then Mark Yeates went past him, but fortunately their deliveries into the box came to nothing. He was replaced by Andy Reid with three minutes left on the clock.
14 February 2012 vs. Middlesbrough (A) 1-2 (defeat)
Another appearance for Wootton at right back, as Forest succumbed to a 2-1 defeat by Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. A quiet performance, which occasionally saw him press forward, but the home team’s first goal came from a corner which wasn’t cleared properly and Marvin Emnes scored via a deflection. With Forest looking for a way back into match Forest manager Steve Cotterill decided to sacrifice Wootton after sixty minutes for attacking players.
18 February 2012 vs. Coventry City (H) 2-0 (win)
Forest’s first win at The City Ground since November and the first time they have scored more than a goal at home in the same period. Again selected at right back Wootton was replaced at half time in favour of centre forward Dexter Blackstock. During his time on the pitch Wootton dealt comfortably with Gary McSheffery and Alex Nimely, but had little opportunity to go forward, as the game was mainly contested in the midfield area.
25 February 2012 vs. Birmingham City (A) 2-1 (win)
Wootton was introduced from the substitute’s bench with five minutes remaining, in order to shore up the Forest defence as they tried to keep Birmingham out in their attempts to score an equalizer. The Man United man blocked several balls into the box.
Overall rating for February: 24/40.
