Ben Pearson has joined Championship outfit Preston North End on a permanent deal, signing a two-and-a-half year deal with Simon Grayson’s side.
The energetic midfielder makes the step down after leaving Manchester United, but makes the step up after spending the second half of last season and first half of this season on loan at League One side Barnsley.
The former winner of the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award back in 2013 will reunite with former United defender Marnick Vermijl, and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, the latter at Deepdale on a temporary loan.
The 21-year-old was highly regarded at the club, but has chosen this path in his career to play regular first team football, with central midfield a tough area to breakthrough at Old Trafford with Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger all established first teamers ahead of Pearson in the pecking order.
Preston offer good ties with United, where David Beckham, Danny Welbeck and Will Keane have all enjoyed successful loan spells there, with the latter recently recalled to be a part of the first team picture.
We wish Ben all the best in his future career, may it be a long and prosperous journey.
