Ajose Back In Action Following Injury Setback

It’s been a mixed 2011 for Nicky Ajose. In the first week of January, he signed a new contract at United until the end of the 2012-13 season and extended his loan spell with Bury until the end of the season – allowing his game to develop further with regular first team football. A few weeks later, joy had turned to frustration; Nicky faced six weeks on the sidelines. The injury occurred in training, the youngster caught the ground before striking a ball during shooting drills. A scan a few days later at United’s Carrington training complex confirmed all parties concerns; further treatment was required and Nicky would be out of action for a couple of months.

It’s not something Nicky wants to dwell upon, “I’m back now, you move on, don’t you.” he said in a recent interview. “It might take me a little while to get back into the team, but I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Nicky made his return as a substitute against Cheltenham, he looked lively and added a new dimension to the Shakers attack who were up against a resolute defence, camped out in their own half for most of the season half, defending their 2-1 lead after being two up in the first seven minutes. A few half chances fell to Ajose but nothing clear cut, the home side went on to lose 3-2.

There’s nine games left in the season and promotion is a real possibility for United’s Lancashire neighbours. “I’m hoping to get into double figures, if I get goals and Lowey and Bish do too, we’ll definitely go up” added a confident Ajose, who has scored six times in nineteen appearances for the Shakers. A tough trip to Port Vale is up next but with six of the nine matches at home, a decade in League Two may be over for Alan Knill’s young side.
