Teams were told if the captains where the armband the players will be booked by the referee at the start of every game. The FA's who supported this plan have all said as a result of this they cannot expect their players to put themselves at such a disadvantage.

Take the booking in the first game. Then just wear the other one forthe othr games is what I would do.

Would everyone who wears it be booked or just the person who starts the game with it?

Just start Connor Gallagher as captain then sub him after 1 minute and give Kane the armband.

At the end of the day, wearing an armband doesn’t do squat for LGBQ rights or equalities. You could argue that by forcing FIFA into banning them, they are putting more pressure on FIFA who have revealed their true selves.

Technically FIFA didn’t ban them they just said they’d have to enforce the rules for the use of incorrect equipment.

This whole armband nonsense is a joke anyway....footballers so keen to wear this because they support gay rights but not one openly gay player in the top leagues...really inclusive...not

Modern attitudes still make it very hard for any gay players to come out. You are starting to see a few come out as gay in a few sports, however there will be many more that still fear doing so.

You have totally missed the point of the armband anyway and it is far from a joke. It is to promote inclusivity and send a message against all kinds of discrimination. So it is far from a nonsense, shame FIFA threatened sanctions against the players/teams who wore it.

Modern attitudes? That's the wrong way around isn't it? What is stopping a player coming out? Is it fear of his colleagues reaction in the dressing room? Or is it fear of abuse on the Terraces which could be solved by the same colleagues walking off the pitch as they threaten to do with racism.

Either way the very same people wearing the armbands could take some kind of positive action to provide a safe and inclusive environment for a footballer to come out.....but they obviously don't so yes it is a joke. Actions speak louder than arm bands.

And people in the past have died for principles yet our collective so called progressive FAs abandoned theirs with the threat of a yellow card....slow round of applause.....

All a load of virtue signalling waffle.

Well we do have openly gay footballers and ex footballers. Not many but a few and some players have said they know of gay players within the game at clubs who don't wish to be out. That is a personal choice of those players that should be respected we are all entitled to a private life.

One of the reasons they might not want to come out is the abuse they'll get from fans in certain parts of the world where homosexuality is not allowed. I personally don't think they'd get much from the terraces where they'd get hammered is online by the trolls.

They may also not want to be the poster boy of being a gay footballer as it means every little detail of their life will be picked through by the tabloids because all of a sudden you are a target worth shooting at for that part of the press. After all being gay doesn't necessarily make you a good person does it.
