Tottenham Hotspur Discussion 2024/25

Not just Arsenal, Forest are right up there, and with less games to play, time will tell but soon the FA cup, and Europe will kick in again
Yeah. Slot is going to have to earn his money soon and prove himself, squad rotation might well end up being the key to it all.

The added pressure is equalling our 20th
I honestly don't believe they'll be thinking about that too much. The focus will be on the league, not us. Well, at least that's what a good manager would have his team focused on. Everything else will sort it's self out, and I hate to admit it, but Slot looks like he has a brain.

Maybe, but the way he reacted tonight when Spurs went ahead, not sure who the yellow card was aimed at, but it is an indication the bench is feeling the pressure, after all the League Cup isn't the biggest prize in football.

Yeah. Like I said before, he's going to have to earn his money from now on, every decision he makes is a potential problem and when he starts to get them wrong, will he start to second guess himself? It's all going to start happening now, it's the beginning of the business end of the season.

Not sure it's a sign of feeling the pressure.

I was very surprised at how strong a team Liverpool put out. They don't rotate a lot and burn out was certainly a problem for them last season.

Anyway good night for Spurs who are still battered by injuries but the new keeper made his debut which has to be a bonus.

Solanke I thought played well scored 1 which was marginally offside and did really well up against Konate to setup the goal. He's looking like a good buy he's not a world beater like Kane was but he's a good centre forward.

The main story from the game was obviously what happened to Bentancur in the first half hopefully it wasn't something to serious and he makes a full recovery. Seeing a player collapse like that on a pitch is always difficult to watch.

Solanke could have probably been ours if we wanted him, he would have been a great option for us this season. He has goals and assists in his locker and his hold up play is excellent. We missed the boat here.

I doubt we had the money for Solanke in the summer he cost quite a bit more than Zirkzee who I think was a bit of a punt which hasn't worked out.

I don't think Solanke would have made a lot of sense for Utd in the summer we were right to back Hojlund with a second season before deciding to spend big on another striker.

He would have made perfect sense. Hojlund was never ready to lead us anywhere.

Having someone who just proved he can score in our league and Hojlund as back up.... simple for me.

If we were going to buy a striker in the summer and give up on Hojlund then I'd want us to go for someone better than Solanke.

Solanke to me is a Europa League level player and that's as good as he's ever going to be if Utd went to buy a striker in the summer we had to go for a Champions League quality one and we probably didn't have the money to do that.

If it was down to me I'd have been looking to buy a more experienced striker to compete with Hojlund through this season to give him a bit more time to show he can become a top striker.

We wouldn't have been giving up on Hojlund, we would have been releasing him from his current burden. We would have been allowing him to grow naturally with far less pressure on him, and he'd probably be doing a lot better now for it.

For me Solanke is underrated and I said the same thing many months ago.

I think with strikers you are either the guy or you aren't if that makes sense.

I just think Solanke was to expensive to be a backup/competition player.

Hojlund I think just moved to young you need to be a seriously special player to handle that pressure at that age and you probably need to go into a club that's got some good people to look after him.

It does make sense, yes. Solanke could have been the guy, and Holjlund could have learned/backed him up for a couple years and played in cup games etc. It could have worked.

Instead we're looking at a Rasmus Hojlund that has been eaten alive by pressure. It's done him no good at all, and it's our fault, not his.

I dunno I think Hojlund is at a point in his career where he needs to be playing every week he's just in a bad situation where he's playing for a poor team in a tough league. Another year at least with Atalanta would have done him the world of good I reckon.

Similar to Solanke's early career moving from Chelsea to Liverpool was a mistake as he wasn't ready for that move taking a step back down has allowed him to become a much better player.

Bringing in some competition was essential but £60m on Solanke is probably to much to spend given we had a few other areas we had to strengthen in the summer.

Still think It was an opportunity we should have taken.

Look at us now. We look toothless.

I get that but if we signed Solanke instead of Zirkzee then we probably wouldn't have 1 of Yoro, De Ligt, Maz or Ugarte.

The player I'd have tried to get would have been someone like Jiminez or Welbeck probably get either of them for £10m they're fairly reliable guys who are used to a bit of pressure.

Wouldn't have minded Welbeck back. Before his injury he'd been playing well.

Yeah I just wanted someone who was cheap and fairly reliable to give Hojlund a bit more time to show what he can do.

Sort of reaching the point where this summer it looks like we'll need to spend big on a striker.

Utd have become a little bit to focused on buying young players in the attack I think we needed a bit of experience to help all the young players we have.

I think if we had either Solanke or Welbeck we'd be close to top four right now.

We definitely need some experience up top.

5 points from 9 games in the league.

I think that league cup form is keeping him in a job if they get knocked out of that surely he's gone.

He’s running on very thin ice. If things don’t improve I think he’ll be gone in the next month or so.

They might go the united way, wait until the end of season and give him a new deal first :p

They've got injuries at the back which is a massive problem as the replacements are nowhere near as good as the starters.

Looking at the squad it looks like they only have 3 proper centre backs in the squad and 2 are out injured the squad looks so short of players.

The keeper and 3 of the first choice back 4 are out and they've clearly not got much depth to cover for that.

I just think Ange's style of football is to high risk to play when you don't have the best team in the league as even the mid table sides are good enough to get at you.

Hard to see them sticking with him next season.

Not sure he will be sacked before the second leg of the league cup semi.

2-1 home defeat to Leicester. Ange hanging on by a thread you would say.

I know they’ve had their injury problems but that may not be enough of an excuse to keep his job.

Spurs have surprised me a lot this season, I thought we were in free fall, but they have literally jumped without a parachute, (Unlikely) wins for Everton and West Ham could see them (and us) in our lowest position for decades.
Either the Tottenham board are skint, and can't afford to sack Pest, or they believe he can get them out of the mire.

Think they left themselves horribly short at the back and it's bitten them in the backside this season as the injuries hit and they had zero cover.

They're joint 3rd in the league for goals scored which is mad when you see they're in 14th. To put that in perspective they've scored nearly double the number of goals we've scored so far this season and are below us.

I reckon he's gone at the end of the season no matter what happens if they lose the second leg of that semi final to Liverpool he might go then.

Dragosin has done his ACL so he's out for the rest of the season. That new centre back they've signed is going to be thrown in the deep end.
