Looks to be the next cab off the rank from the youth teams. Was on the bench towards the end of last season but sounds like ETH likes him so we could well see him being integrated into the first team before long.

I said it not to long ago in the pre-season thread that I am not sold on him but very happy to be proven wrong!

Think we might see him get some time in the Europa League and League Cup games next season.

What did people make of his performance yesterday when he came on?

I thought he looked tidy and did show for the ball which is important for a youngster. A couple of loose passes but that’s to be expected of a young man in his first appearance.

We probably won't know until he's thrown in at the deep end. If we need him to come in and do a job in an important game that's when we'll get a better read of him.

He looked ok yesterday, fairly composed.

Tough game to come in to but thought he did alright.

He's a young lad, brought into a difficult situation. Can't criticise him really

Our CM was 19 and 20 years old

Be nice to see him get some games in the Europa.

I thought he looked out of his depth but that’s no great criticism of him because he was playing in a beaten side against a top top team.

Hope he gets a few more chances but I’ve said before in this forum I just don’t see him making it here.

I too thought he looked out his depth.

But he was dropped in it. Can't judge him on that game

Oh yeah definitely he’s not the first young player to be thrown in at the deep end and looking out of place.

He got about the pitch and tried to influence the game I thought… But yeah a tough game to make your real debut from the bench.

Good cameo. He displayed great energy and was decent on the ball too. He should Ben starting over Casemiro.

Certainly has to have put himself up the line in terms of options.

Good to see him fit again and he’s got a huge chance with the current options to become part of the first team

It says a lot now that Collyer came on ahead of Casemiro. He played really well in his cameo.

It looked like he'd filled out a bit since we last saw him.

Interested to see if he gets a few chances to impress through the rest of the season.

He's 21 now so feels like this is a bit of a make or break season for him in terms of making that break through to the senior squad.

Did well when he came on against the Arse, hopefully will see more of him and looking at our thin squad he should get chances.

Yep if they think he's got a proper shot of making the grade I'd happily see him used ahead of Casemiro and Eriksen for the rest of the season.

There's only 2 centre mids in that squad at the moment that Amorim seems to trust.

Impressed with him against Arsenal, asked to do a job in the back 4 (10) when Martinez was moved to CF.
Would like to see him played more in that DM role, shows great promise.

Agreed, he played well when he came on.

I'd definitely give him a go off the bench as support for Ugarte and Mainoo. If he continues to impress, give him a few starts to help rotation.

Frankly if you can actually run a bit you’re a better option that Casemiro and Eriksen right now. Sad to say but those two are totally cooked and I hope they can get good moves away as sure in a lesser league they can be good options for someone.

This is definitely Collyer’s chance to cement himself in Amorim’s thinking. Would be happy to see him get some starts and more sub appearances to see how much he has progressed. I said last season on the forum that I would be surprised if he did ultimately make it here but I hope I am proved wrong!

I wonder how McTom would have done in this system

I think he'd have done ok probably suits him a bit better than the ETH system as Amorim really like his centre mids to press forward and squeeze the opponent.

Same issues would be there though which are when we have the ball and need to break down an opponent he can't move it quickly enough to create the gaps in the defence to exploit.

To be honest even Ugarte and Mainoo are not great at that as neither of them are particularly good passers of the ball.

I'm surprised you say that, I think Mainoo is a pretty good passer of the ball and has good vision.

I think Mainoo hasn't got the passing ability of a Scholes or Carrick, who could pick the ball up deep and quickly thread a long ball through the lines to set up an attack. He is good, however, at receiving the ball in tight spaces and laying it off quickly or playing it into space in the box.

Two pretty hard players for anyone to be judged against re: passing.

But I think he is pretty decent, although not much call for that long ball these days.

But yeah, no Scholes/Carrick, but who is.

I think he can play fairly safe backwards and sideways short passes which is fine but I don't think his passing game is top class.

He's very good at carrying the ball forward but I think the downside of that is his first instinct is to control the ball and take a touch he's not a player who'll see something early and go for it, not really his game. That is why I do feel like we might see him used a bit further forward as a number 10 once we have a few more options in midfield.

Tidy again.

Almost cost us early on getting caught on the ball but after that he was solid enough.

Not totally convinced he will make the grade but he’s making the most of the chances.
