The Sir Jim Ratcliffe Era

That’s the problem these days players are greedy and put money before playing, but that’s down to the muppets we had on the board offering these rediculous contracts.

Varane, Martial and Van De Beek all gone so they've made a bit of a start.

Others will be more difficult but that's football every top club has got these players that they can't shift.

Brandon Williams and Kambwala too. Along with a few youth players.

The squad is definitely shrinking. We've received £42m and the wage has probably gone down just under a mil.

A lot of it was easy wins with player contracts expiring but this is what it will take as players on amazing deals that they can't get anywhere else aren't always motivated to move.

Even if they want to move the club can't just write off the transfer fee due to FFP so players do just end up being stuck.

The big change that hopefully happens is no new signing should ever be put straight into the top 5 earners on the wage bill. The 5 best paid players at the club should be players who've renewed deals and delivered for Utd to earn those spots.

thats a good one, I can't really put down players out of contract to the new board.

I think the record of the previous board was these players would get new contracts especially someone like Varane.

I do think the previous board had started to harden a little bit on that front as last summer they let De Gea leave.

This is what Ineos are having to deal with.

Pretty sure you can knock 20% off all those numbers for this season because of the clause that relates to champions league football that goes into all player contracts.

Also, only 1 of those contracts is on Sir Jim's watch which is Yoro which on paper looks like a pretty sensible deal.

Also, last season that list also included Varane and Martial who were both massive earners so it's a sign that things are heading in the right direction. Season before that we took Ronaldo and De Gea off the wage bill too.

Yes heading in the right direction now under Jim I`m just pointing out how bad the previous board were and i`ll do it at every available opportunity.

6 of that top 10 should be nowhere near there. 5 of them aren't even starters.

But it looks better than it would have done this time last year with Martial up there.

Remember a few years back we had the highest wage bill in Europe from memory that was Ole's final season it's dropped off big time since then but as you say there's still a few on there that just don't stack up.

With the exception of bruno none of that top 10 were worth those wages last season.

too many chiefs?
This is a multi, multi million pound business that went totally off the rails through having weak and underqualified management at the top who did not understand 'the business' at all. All Ratcliffe is doing is imposing a business model that all large conglomerates use if they're sensible - hire the best and get rid of the deadwood.

What he has done in a relatively short time is stunning.

Precisely.

The business side, is done by the Glazers, his is the football side.

That box on Sunday vs Liverpool was pretty full, a lot of ego's to clash. I'm not saying they aren't needed, I have no idea of course, it was just a question. There does seem like a lot of big wigs

As long as everyone knows their roles and works together there won't be a problem.

It's a short term appointment to the end of the season. I wonder if it's partly linked to the refurb work at the training ground? I suspect part of this is linked to that making sure the training ground is setup with the best equipment, staff and knowledge that allows our players to reach peak performance every single week.

If this guy is an expert in that then get him in because that place in the true heart beat of the club on the pitch and it's great that the club is finally investing big money in it and getting the right people in to set it up as one of the best around.

No more cracked pool tiles ;)
