Bit early to start this thread? Anyways, the weekend has been a good one for United.

Think we're too far behind for top 4. Don't really look like we've got team to go on the winning run we'd need.
Think the 4 there will stay there.

Should probably be in the general football bit

Five points is nothing. Keep the faith!

Still expecting us to finish as high as we did last season, if not higher

Right, where is the "Are we in a relegation dogfight" thread?

I'm not sure if you're all joking or not.

We just scraped a home win against Brentford.

We've scored 9 goals, conceded 12. Our striker has no goals, McTom is now our top scorer

I think you need to wake up about this team. Absolutely no goal threat whatsoever in those 90 mins really. And that's typical.

Unless ETH tries to change what he's doing, there is no way that the top 4 are dropping 5 - 8 points more than us

This is a league thread, so he has no goals.

Largely down to how ETH has us playing

Just need to grind out wins until his first choice players are back and stay in touch.

Will need a strong finish to the season to make up for the poor start.

Few of the sides above us play each other in the next round of games so if we can beat Sheff Utd we will close the gap on a few of them.

Need Hojlund to start finding the net in the league.

Horrible, everytime I have an opinion, nob ed comes out with the same

Although I think we could, if ETH changed our playing style

I think he's already changed the style to suit what he currently has available.

With these defenders he can't play out from the back and they can't squeeze up the pitch so he's going to need to play a little deeper and more on the break.

I don't think we're going to score anywhere near enough goals to make the top 4 this season, this lot will concede plenty while the first choice back 4 is out and we don't have the firepower to score our way out of trouble in the way Liverpool/Brighton are.

well this might as well be removed from the the united part to general football :D

I'd say there's still a slim chance we can claw our way back into it but it would need someone like Spurs to totally implode as the season goes on.

The table can change quickly

Fulham (a), Luton (h) and Everton (a) is our next 3 in the league even this depleted team should be thinking there’s 7 points minimum from these games.

Did you watch the Sheffield game, who got thumped by 5 from arsenal a week later

I'd say 7 points is no way guaranteed

I did and Arsenal are a much better side than us but we only need to win by 1 goal.

All 3 are in the bottom half and all 3 have scored less goals than us.

I don’t think we are going to batter them all 5-0 but you’d hope we’ve got enough to get a reasonable return from these games even if they’ll all likely be closer than we’d want them to be.

I think at this point top 4 would be a dream for United but they have far more pressing issues to address.

As a club they are falling woefully behind. The whole infrastructure of the club needs a real injection and new life. But as a team they need an identity. I thought ETH had that but right now it doesn’t look like it. Right now there is no plan or identity at all.

The identity comes from the very top these days and until the owners change to people who care about the football club and results on the pitch nothing is going to change. Your owners set the tone they either expect the team to win titles and set everything up to make that happen or they don't and our have shown they don't have a desire to compete for titles it's all about making money.

As for top 4, win the next 2 and we'll be on 21 points going into the international break. Hopefully a few more will return after that break and we can maybe start getting a more consistent starting XI out which I think will help with the performances and hopefully try and claw back some of the deficit.

The standard is very high this season top 4. For example if Liverpool who are 4th maintain their current form over a 38 games season they'll get 87 points so it's possible that this season you might need 80 points to get into the top 4. Last season Newcastle got 4th on 71 points, season before Spurs got 71 points for 4th, season before that Chelsea got 67 and before that Chelsea 66.

There's currently 5 teams who've shot off like a rocket so we are going to need to have some second half of the season to catch any of them up including some big away wins which aren't exactly likely with these boys.

I’d go Arsenal we need teams to at least try and keep up with City this season.

Newcastle 1-0 up but should have been down to 10 men apparently a deliberate forearm smash to the head of your opponent isn’t a red card anymore.

It’s been a decent weekend for United. Hopefully Chelsea can do us a favour tomorrow.

Spurs dropping out of the top is more likely than maintaining a title challenge, me thinks.

Someone needs to stop City winning 4 in a row.

Hoping the Premier League pull their finger out and deduct them 115 points.

nobody is stopping city, I can see another treble.

If he does that, hopefuly Pep will leave

And united are not getting anywhere near top 4. You can't keep playing awful and then score a last minute winner.

The fact we are 8th and 6pts off top four is a positive for me as we have been utterly dreadful so far this season.

The form has to turn around at some point so wouldn’t discount us getting top four by any means.

Also, worth remembering that we may only need to be 5th to make the champions league this season if England gets 1 of the 2 extra spots for next season.

I like your optimism

Lets not forget, we are only just winning the games against the bottom sides, scraping through. Top sides are way ahead.

We have 12 goals.

We are not making top 4.

I'm with @Mr C it'll be 6th or 7th this season.

Unless Rashford suddenly find a run of form there's no goals in this team, just like last season.

We aren't even missing good chances like we were early in the season there is nothing happening at all going forward and there's absolutely no sign of that changing.

Going to be a painful watch this season unfortunately.

Another good day for United with Spurs and Newcastle both losing. United are currently 4 points behind 4th placed Liverpool having played one more game.
