Quite a few outlets reporting on this one. Some saying talks are 'far down the line'.

Is Neves the DM we've been looking for?

Wouldn't describe him as a DM he's more of an all rounder think he'd work well in our system playing in the two.

Makes plenty of tackles in midfield (collects yellow cards for fun) and is very good on the ball short and long passing range is excellant and can also crack in the odd worldie goal as he's got an absolute rocket of a shot on him.

Keeps it fairly simple and doesn't take silly risks.

Always been impressed whenever we've played against Wolves for me he'd be an upgrade on pretty much all the centre mid options we currently have so I'd be pretty happy with him as long as we're not busting the bank.

He's been linked with quite a few clubs this summer sounds like Wolves might be trying to cash in on him now that he's established himself in the premier league.

He's pretty much in the Carrick mould of player I'd say goes un-noticed in most games but you probably would notice him more when he isn't there.

I think he'd be a good signing for United. He's the kind of signing they used to make on a fairly regular basis under SAF. Proven PL player.

Dailly Mirror reporting that Utd are looking to do a deal for him at around 40m.

Don't see it myself not this late in the day unless Utd get some decent money in from a few sales can't really see them going back into the market for another player.

Yeah can't see it happening to be honest. United haven't actually sold anyone yet have they? And not sure who they would even be able to sell at this point.

Not that I can think of all the lads who were on loan last season have come back and a few have gone out again.

Lingard seemed the most likely sale and there's still a part of me that thinks he will go but maybe not until January because of Rashford's injury but with only 6 months left on his contract at that point it won't be a big fee.

Same issue at pretty much every big club players on big contract that aren't desperate for moves as the kind of offers that they're getting aren't that attractive to them.

If Neves was a serious option you would imagine that Utd would have got the deal done by now as Wolves aren't exactly struggling for money so it's not like they'll have a last minute panic and slash the price.

I’m glad we have already played Wolves away and came out with a victory. They were a little wasteful in front of goal but once Trincao and Jiminez get amongst the goals I think they will beat a fair few good teams this season at Molineux.

Sanches will be a very good signing and they’ve also signed Hee-Chan from Leipzig on loan who proved at Salzburg he was a really good player.

I believe they sit top of the league in terms of their XG created... So yeah if they can start to finish some chances they are going to be a hard team to beat.

Would taking him on loan not been a good idea for Utd?

Given Neves is now away with Portugal surely a deadline day deal is going to be seriously tough to get through.

Think Renato Sanches is a good signing for Wolves though seems to have got his career back on track after that disasterous spell at Bayern.

Just feels mad to me that there are centre mids on the market this summer and Utd aren't in for them they surely can't think what we've got is good enough.

Yeah I don't get that either. I get they want a world class top CM but they need to upgrade at the position. They are going to lose a few bodies in there over the next year so they don't just need 1 player.

I don't think that's the case I think Ole has always been pretty clear that he's willing to wait for the right ones.

Might be that finding the right ones is proving difficult as clubs that have good centre mids aren't going to be willing to give them up.

I don't think Neves is the answer by the way.

I saw some stats (not that you can rely on them) that indicated Rice was worse than Fred/Mctom.

Maybe we can get Philips in the James deal.

I don't watch Neves very often but to me he looks a better player than Matic or Fred and maybe even McTominay.

Think he's what we need a good all rounder which is what I see Rice as he's not really a specialist holding midfield player that some think he is he's just a good centre mid who can do a bit of everything. These are the sort of players I think an Ole side needs.

Good on the ball and off it.

This is a classic example of where stats can be so misleading. I mean I'm not a huge Rice guy but he's so much better than Fred and McTominay.

It's all about getting the right style though most people probably laughed when Liverpool picked up Wijnaldum from Newcastle but he slotted in perfectly and that Liverpool midfield was one of the best in Europe for 2-3 seasons and he fit into that system perfectly. Put Wijnaldum in our 2 man midfield and he'd probably have struggled.

Where I like Rice is we've seen at West Ham and for England him playing in a 2 and building a solid partnership with Soucek and Phillips.

I think Rice could end up looking a lot like McTominay at a big club and that if you put McTominay in a side like West Ham there'd be a lot of clamour to sign him.

Do you think a midfield of Rice and McTominay would be a bad thing?

MNF did a good segment on Rice and Ndidi comparing them the other week showing the stats and what it showed was Ndidi was really strong at the defensive side of the game he's a great ball winner whereas Rice was a much more rounded centre mid.

I feel with Bruno in our side we're never going to be able to play with one holder as he's basically a forward who drops deep to get on the ball like Rooney was back in the day. So I think we need two really solid centre mids who can win the physical battle in the middle of the pitch but also be good enough on the ball to control the game.

Having one that could pass and tackle in the basic form would be good, I mean Fred has been atrocious the last two games. Let alone one that can dictate a game.

The one I think Utd missed and I'll admit I didn't see it at the time was Hojberg think he'd have been a great signing but Spurs got him at £15m and now they're never going to sell him to us.

Wasn't until I saw him for Denmark in the Euro's that I think I realised how good he is not saying he's amazing and world class but I think he's a really good all rounder.

The links to the Bayern boys are done now I think both ended up signing new deals.

In terms of balance as a pair I think there are two really top midfield pairs in the premier league.

Jorgino and Kante
Ndidi and Tielemens

Do you think a midfield of Rice and McTominay would be a bad thing?
I actually think long term... If Pogba stays that could be an ideal midfield. I guess the problem is Fernándes but I like the balance of a Rice, McTominay and Pogba. And in fact if Pogba does leave then a midfield of Rice, McTominay and Fernándes too.

Rice would cost fortune similar to Maguire. No thanks, Bissouma and Neves would transform this team.
