Ruben Amorim

I actually think he's got the skill set to do it but the big challenge would be convincing him to do it.

The other issue that doesn't really get mentioned with Antony is his fitness he has missed a lot of games in the last 18 months. Some of it was time off to sort his off field issues out back in Brazil but there's a lot of games where he just isn't part of the squad.

He just looks like someone who's head has completely gone and needs to get out of Utd ASAP to salvage his career as it's never going to come good here for him.

I don't think he's got the acceleration or pace to be a wing back unfortunately.

I dunno over longer distances he seems to keep his speed pretty well but he isn't explosive off the mark.

A big question is we don't really know what his crossing is like from the left side as we've never really seen him there.

You would think Amorim is going to have a look at it in training because you can't see a role for him in the front 3 going forward.

It’s actually quite sad to see because from his first couple of games where things looked brilliant - thinking of his goals against Arsenal and City - he has just nose dived into mediocrity.

New managers can sometimes get a new tune out of players, so all hope isn’t lost I would suggest. However would be shocked if he’s still a United player in 12 months.

Might help Antony that Amorim will be able to speak to him in his native tongue, Brazilians by default are very suspicious of Dutch Managers/Coaches going back to LvG’s time at Barca

It's probably the best thing that could of happened for Antony, ETH being sacked. I think he was massively out of favour and with the change in coach he gets a blank slate really. Nobody will remember the Antony of the past if he starts to produce under Amorim. He will know that too. So he probably has one more chance to make it with us.

Think teams worked him out quite quickly and the quality when he came inside on that left foot dropped off massively.

Utd becoming a transition team under ETH probably didn't help him as he's not really an end to end counter attacking player.

All that off field stuff has clearly taken it's toll on him.

I don't see him getting it back to be honest be great if he did but I reckon he's done.

You could be right. He has the tackling ability and has the ball control too. There are players who need an arm around their shoulders and Antony could be one of them. Yes Amorim will speak to him in his own language and also surely someone who can shoot that well with their left foot can also put in a cross?

His shooting is poor.

His accuracy is 51% but his conversion rate is 4%

Compare that to the best winger in the league Salah accuracy 59% conversion 17%.

They are worlds apart Salah scores 1 in 5 Antony is 1 in 20.

A conversion rate of 4% is quite honestly pathetic.

It is not the conversion rate that you need as a wing back. It is his crossing ability. He can shoot well but he does not hit the target or is too easy for the keeper to save. Salah is a good striker and not strictly a winger. All Antony needs is to put in a good cross as a wingback.

You said if he can shoot that well with his left foot surely he can cross.

I said he can’t shoot well with his left foot just used Salah as my benchmark for the comparison.

They’re also very different skills.

He does shoot well. It ends up in the keeper's hand most of the time. He played well for Ajax

Shooting well puts it in the net not the keepers hands.

His shots lack power they’re often floaty and easily caught by keepers. Even a cross needs to come in with pace on it.

weirdly as a wing back I think he’d find the defensive bit easier than the attacking bit.

Hi, just joined the chat. What do you think of this new song for Amorim, it’s a twist on the song Amore by Dean Martin :
“When the sun seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine that’s Amorim, when the sun seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine that’s Amorim……”

Welcome.

I like it. Not gonna lie, I had to youtube the song, then realised I do know it.

Don’t sit on the fence mate, tell us what you really feel about him ....
At least you’ve admitted he needs time.
I’m just saying what I’ve seen so far. I may not watch as much as you all do but I’ve seen a good amount of United this season. Zirkzee just looks awful. There’s been nothing (the goal on his debut apart) that has suggested he can be a top player in the PL. He’s fairly big but doesn’t use his size. He’s not fast. His touch isn’t great and his passing is worse. I just don’t see a player there who’s going to turn it around.

Pack it in. If you have any clue about football I shouldn't need to explain to you why Zirkzee has at least a whole season to prove himself.

Also, anybody who thinks Zirkzee has bad ball control is completely mental. If you'd watched him like you say you have you would realise that. In the tiny amount of time he has been here he has demonstrated far more intelligence in his passing than most of our team. I can see exactly why he was bought.

Welcome

A bit boring, that song has been done to death over the years, the best version being “When you sit in row Z and the ball hits your head it’s Zamora”, and that was sung by his own teams fans. and not rival fans mocking

Welcome.

Personally think that tune has been done to death by various fans down the years.

Not been many new chants from our fans that have stuck lately. Certainly doesn’t seem to be many chants for current players.
