Ruben Amorim

Christ knows, he’s used to managing a team of relative hard grafting unknowns not some pampered over paid wimps and the odd ex Galacticos….
Before anyone has a hissy fit that was tongue in cheek, well part of it was :D

Think any system can be played in a defensive or attacking way. Inter play 3-5-2 but they do it with a lot of pressing and really attacking full backs.

His system will be judged by the results if he can't get this team scoring goals and winning games doesn't matter how they play fans aren't going to get behind him.

If he can get our attack firing consistently without making us wide open at the back it doesn't really matter how the players are setup on the pitch.

Think the big challenge is changing the mindset around the whole club back to the sort of mindset of a title winning side.

First thing he does is look into the players eyes and ask who wants to play for the biggest club in the world, quite a few managers have come and failed let’s hope this guy is the real deal, as ever it won’t be a quick fix.

yeah, if he gets into the Europa, that will be a good return from here

We can't afford another massive overhaul of the squad.

He's going to need a lot of these players to work within his system not just this season but next season as well.

The next 6 months is really going to be working out who can adapt to his methods and give him what he wants and who can't the ones that can't need to be shipped out but as every manager has found that process can take years.

I, like many others have been critical over the last few months. Maybe justified!! Whether players get dropped or their nose is put out of joint we've got to back the new boss and hope a new era is on the way

Looking at that vid posted,

rashford, antony, cas, eriksen, de ligt, zirkzee are toast.

We'll probably go after SL left sided CB

Bruno could be out - long term.
I do have my concerns about De Ligt as he didn’t flourish in a three for either Bayern and Netherlands but in the right system any player can flourish if you have the talent.

I would say Bruno is very much at risk. If reports are to believed he will play with two midfield players - one as the holding like Ugarte and then one in front which you would think suits Mainoo or Mount more so.

I reckon Casemiro, Eriksen and Antony all leave next summer and the rebuild will begin again!

Intriguing to see how he will line up in his first game against Ipswich. Exciting times!

I think Amorim must have a plan. I doubt he would come to us knowing the pressure also thinking he has no chance with our squad. I believe he thinks he has at least some of players he needs to make it work, maybe even a majority. It will be very interesting to see who he actually selects and where though, you are right.

I agree about Bruno, he could be in trouble.

Anyone watching Sporting?

I'm having a watch. Best way to check on what's coming. Clips and stuff don't tell the full story.

Not watching, see it’s 3-1 at half time though. Gyokeres hat trick. Thoughts on the team performance?

They're pretty dominant. I like the way they play actually. It's a decent game.

Pretty low league opposition though...

Nani just came on for the other side. What a legend. Love him.

Did you watch the Ajax team before we got ETH? They were pretty good.

Let's see who's still supportive at the end of the season after this one.
Shame it doesn't work that way, nobody knows how long he will get.

Amorim will be judged on his own merits. If he has got a clear direction and working style of play I'm sure he'll have all the support he needs for a very long time.

You should maybe try saying what you think instead of being the riddler as I don't really know how to take the last part of your post. It does come across like you may be having a go at me though. If you've got something to say, just say it.

Sounds like he wanted to come end of season and we forced it.
First 10 league games include arsenal, city and Liverpool away

I see his official title is head coach rather than manager.

United finally realising no single person can do that job anymore.

There is no new sir alex cutting his teeth elsewhere.

Utd have finally broken down his job into a number of different people with different responsibilities.

I’ve never really seen the guy talk but I like the way he conducts himself in interviews. Think he’s got the right personality if he can get off to a good start we might be able to actually get the people onside.

Do you really think RA would’ve agreed to take the job if he had no say in transfers, it’s nonsense.

He'll suggest players and vice versa, then they'll meet in the middle somewhere.

The whole 'coach' title is just about making it clear he's not the manager - he's not expected to do it all.

Will Bruno have the discipline to play this way?
Quite simply no. He’s a brilliantly talented player no doubt but he isn’t disciplined. It’s going to be very interesting to see how this goes. Does Anorim have the guts to drop him?

I’m curious as to what you guys make of Anorim wanting to stay at Sporting for the season and being told it’s now or never? I get United would have moved on to other targets but I don’t know doesn’t seem like the best way to start?

It looks like he's a bit more lively on the sidelines which I think will help bringing the fans along.

As for the transfers, my understanding is they talk about positions to fill, ineos come to him with a few options, he chooses, and they try to get within the budget, if not they move onto the next

I think there’s a difference between having a say and making the final decision.

Was implied he had no say.

The Manager can say he doesn’t want a player and in one-off transfer will have the final day, same as it ever was, in multiple transfers he will have to agree with the committee to a 3rd choice LB to get his 2nd choice CF, and so on (other positions are available)

He will have as much say as SAF did, and he rarely got who he wanted, but that was as much to do with finance

The biggest problem they are going to have is the players. Some of them are not good enough. Some probably can’t play the style he’s going to want. Others are older and will need to be moved on in the near future.

Sounds like Ashworth, Wilcox and that other scout fella better get on with their job and sort that squad out.

As always moving on the players that don’t fit will be a lot harder than getting in the ones that will.

Did you watch the Ajax team before we got ETH? They were pretty good.

This is the bizarre thing about ETH. United never even got to play even close like Ajax. ETH did not buy anyone who can play in the Ajax way and he used players who are most unsuitable to the way Ajax plays. Yes he tried to get FDJ, but he had DVB and never used him. I think he did not have the guts to drop Bruno and Rashford. To play the way Ajax played he needed two players in the centre who can keep possession and he did not get them or the club refused to get them.
