Hopefully Ruud can repair a bit of the damage in the league and europa before he arrives.

International break won't give him much time with the players before his first game as most will be away with international sides but it's good that Utd have acted quickly to bring in a highly rated manager.

He needs to get off to a good start and his first game being against one of our former coaches gives the game a bit of extra edge.

It's a huge change really.

And maybe what the club needs.

Lots of united fans will watch the upcoming games for SL vs Arsenal and City no doubt

Exciting and a bit of a lift.

I wonder if there will be some loans out and in come January.

I did read Antony has already been listed, club want his wages gone and are willing to take a huge hit on him.

Yeah. ETH had been given enough time. You don't need any longer than he had to prove what direction you're headed, and it was very clear he was never winning a league. We need somebody capable of that first and foremost, everything else is secondary.

That would certainly be a nice start, but we really want to be challenging for the league again asap.

I guess that's sort of what you mean by top four though.

Can't be a lot of wiggle room with the old FFP for any moves in January unless people are leaving.

Hard to see us getting back into the champions league next season unless we have a huge change around and this guy gets off to an absolute flier to catch up. We probably need that 5th spot to open up or need to really get ourselves going in the europa league.

Will be big questions over a lot of players now.

If we're going 3-4-3 that means 1 less forward position so all these attacking players we've got are now fighting for 3 spots not 4.

Amad, Antony, Mount, Bruno, Eriksen, Rashford, Garnacho, Hojlund, Zirkzee. Feel like I'm still missing someone but that's 9 players for 3 spots as not sure any of them will be played as wing backs/centre mids in the new system.

If I was Antony I'd be thinking can I be a left wing back in an attacking system and is that my route back in because that is the spot in the team that's got to be the easiest one to stake a claim for under the new boss.

According to Teamtalk, Amorin doesn't fancy Anthony, Casemiro, Eriksen and Lindelof.

Think he'll need Casemiro initially, as we've no one else to sit next to Ugarte.

I think Lindelof would be pretty good in a 3 myself.

does anyone fancy Antony :D

Well two of them are out of contract in the summer and unlikely to stay.

Lindelof was signed 7 years ago and by my working he should have been sold 6 years ago, you could tell pretty much straight away he wasn't right for the premier league.

Eriksen and Lindelof should have been moved on this summer but guess there was little to no interest in them, not helped by Lindelof being injured when the window closed.

Casemiro only has a year left after this season so they might be able to move him on.

Antony still has 2 years left at the end of the season getting anyone to buy him or even take him on loan looks unlikely.

I’m curious though as to why you haven’t yet announced it and he’s being so coy about it? At this point everyone is pretty adamant that he is going to be your next manager so really the secret is out.

I think its something to do their side, for one they have to announce it on the stock market first or something.

I guess there is a lot to agree on as well, like compensation not only for Amorim but his coaching staff. Then discussing the notice period as Sporting don’t want to be left high and dry.

Better make it quick though, he might be YouTubing videos of our games as we speak and he may quickly reconsider!

I think it's all sorted, him and the back team, 14m, arrive at start of the international break.

I think the delay is all to do with their stock market

Legally I would imagine until all contracts are signed no one can say anything in public because until it's all official there's nothing to actually announce and you'd look like idiots if for some reason it collapsed.

Sporting because they're a plc have to notify that the approach has been made with Utd agreeing to pay the buyout clause. Utd are apparently still negotiating with Amorim and Sporting over the number of backroom staff that he's bringing with him.

He'll also need to sort out his work permit because he's not a UK resident which can take a few days.

This stuff always happens there's always a period between the news leaking out and everything becoming official.

Can't see that myself as they'll want his massive release clause paid reported to be 100m.

Utd will be telling him he'll need to work with Hojlund first before bringing in another striker.

There's also this lad from the youth team everyone is excited about who in 12/24 months might be ready for the first team

What are peoples thoughts on the potential change of formation to 3-4-3/3-5-2?

I have always associated it with negativity and having 5 defenders but it does sound like Amorim does use it in a slightly different way and at Sporting wingers are used as wing backs.

It’s an exciting appointment and can’t wait for him to get started.

I think his system is all about overloads and isn't really about negativity at all. He wants to outnumber teams everywhere, but mostly centrally when attacking. Five at the back will only be a thing out of possession, when we have the ball and get further forward it will be a 3-2-5 overloading in the opposite way. This will create pockets of space for players to get into and massive headaches for defenders.

The struggle is going to be getting the players doing it correctly.

Convert Anthony and Amad into wing-backs?

Will Bruno have the discipline to play this way?

Do we have quick enough CBs to play a back three that at times has to press up?

Interesting times, as the Chinese proverb goes.

Far to much is made about systems, it’s still 11 against 11, every system has advantages and disadvantages.
At the end of the day the victorious side is usually the one that has more players that wanted it most on the day, or they are Manchester City or Royal Madrid who play by different rules to the rest.

Looking at that vid posted,

rashford, antony, cas, eriksen, de ligt, zirkzee are toast.

We'll probably go after SL left sided CB

Bruno could be out - long term.
