He's been interviewed and seems to be the front runner for the managers job at Sunderland.

It's a club he's worked at before helping them up from the Championship to the Premier League early in his career.

They're struggling to get out of League One currently despite having by far the biggest budget in that league they keep coming up short in the playoffs and it looks like they'll be in the playoffs again this season.

Be a shame not having him as a pundit on Sky Sports because he's pure box office entertainment playing the cold hearted bad guy role.

Maybe at this level his straight talking might still get players onside the biggest thing with him from previous clubs seemed to be he couldn't handle working with players who couldn't do the things he could do. It's often forgotten just how talented a player he was his close control and passing in midfield was as good as anyone's in that era it wasn't all about crunching tackles and violence.

Just don't see it ending well.

He's probably got a lot more about him, in terms of empathy and interpersonal skills, than his pundit character suggests, but whether he has enough for this modern breed of delicate footballer is a big question.

I certainly think he plays up to his persona on TV but I think that's just an exageratted version of reality part of being a pundit is building up your reputation as the more people tuning in when you are on TV means the more you can charge.

The reality is he'll be dealing with a load of league one players who probably think they should be in the Championship.

It'll come down to the players as much as the manager as Keane won't change if they don't buy into what he wants from them it will go up in flames.

You wonder if he's learned a few things working as an assistant at Villa and Ireland.

Generally players in league one have never been fitter and it's not just long ball stuff anymore players want to play football so Keane will need to show them that his methods get results.

The pressure on them is massive everywhere they go for every team in that league Sunderland is the cup final and Keane has experience of that he will know you have to be at it every game when you play in a top side as everyone wants to beat you.
