Is this the best approach going forwards?
I've seen it on a few occasions this year and every time I think there's potential!
There's no doubt Martial is best up front and Rooney generally is best I think in that role behind a front man. Fans have argued with me whether he's a true 10 etc and I can see the argument there. But he's not an out and out striker. He needs more freedom. But with the way Martial likes to drift there's certainly opportunities there for him to get ahead of Martial.
You've then got options with Lingard, Memphis, Januzaj and Pereira out wide. You can drop Herrera back alongside Schneiderlin and then get more creativity from midfield.
Of course it won't work in all games but I think it should be our default set up against most teams in the league.
