He cannot outrun defenders, and is nowhere near the fastest player in the squad.
 
I reckon Hojlund is one the fastest players in the team, if not the fastest. He is quicker than Garnacho. We just don’t see it because of how he is utilised/his preoccupation with battling centre backs.

Not everything is about the manager it was the same under ETH he is struggling to impact the game full stop. Can we have a discussion that doesn’t just drag it back to Ten Hag getting the sack.

I’m aware the team don’t create many chances but he isn’t really giving anything else to the team. He isn’t even sniffing out half chances nor every chance you get in a game is served up to you. Sometimes you have to make things happen yourself.

I just don’t think his strengths are good enough for this league yet. His weaknesses sure as hell aren’t.

I suspect his confidence is approaching rock bottom if we had other options I don’t think he’d be playing

I second that. It’s no good harping on about the past, especially when that past wasn’t great! I can understand going back to the Fergie days as that was incredible to be part of but ETH era? Not so much.

He really is. We just don't release him in to space and let him run on to the ball. He was the fastest player in Serie A when we signed him. He's lightning in to space.
 
I don’t think he has explosive speed where you see him leave a guy in the dust over a short distance but over longer distances he maintains his speed when others start to slow down.

Sure I read somewhere he does the 100m in around 11 seconds which is seriously fast.
 
Under 11 seconds.

For the record he was recorded at 35.97km/h Rashfords highest is 35.95. So to get there on a football pitch shows his acceleration is there.

He is one of the fastest players in the league and the idea he has no pace is silly.

At his age I could do the 100m in 9.7, and the 200 in under 23
 
Only united would spend 70m on an Olympic sprinter, when they needed someone who could score, hold the ball up, distribute, you know, a striker.
 
Think the issue is up front how useful is speed. You obviously need it but how often can you actually use it?

Defences all squeeze right up and leave the space but the keepers are so aggressive with the starting position that it's got to be some pass to give you a chance of getting on it before the keeper does.

If we could get the ball out of the back and into the midfield quicker he might be able to use that speed to get in the channels but because we build up so slow it's hard for any striker to really get into dangerous areas.

:D I was really quick, I represented the West Midlands at several events, in one I got completely trounced by a lad called Sebastian Coe, I think he went on to better things.
As I said, I tore a ligament, I think it was an ACL, may have been in the ankle, I missed over a year of running, when I came back to it, I was never as fast again.

I mean the time you quoted would have been a world record up until 20 years ago.

Not great but better. I much prefer to see the way he played by running the channels instead of battling centre backs.
 
Thought he looked bright first half.

I thought he was better no doubt and he looked pretty lively along with Zirkzee and Garnacho in the front three.
 
I wouldn't say he was abysmal, he was poor, even with Zirkzee and or Garnacho.
I just don't think he's up to the challenge of EPL football, there is no doubt we were truly and properly rinsed on the fee we paid, he needs a loan spell with a Championship club to learn his craft, he can't do that in a losing team, he also needs a lot more coaching, or he's not listening to the coaching he's getting.
 
Should not start the next game. He offers nothing in attack, especially if you compare his work rate with that of Aleksander Isak. Low confidence should not equal low effort.

At this point I’m just not sure he’s going to cut it. He has raw tools to use but that doesn’t mean that he can put it together. There’s been no improvement since he joined United.
 
I think Hojlund gets a lot of unfair comments to be honest. He clearly isn’t ready to lead the line but we wrongly made the call that he was going to be the main man.

It’s not like he can’t finish but when the team isn’t playing well then his deficiencies are magnified. I think if we started to create more chances I think he will score a lot of goals. Obviously needs another striker to ease that burden but I’m not writing him off just yet.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with this.
He doesn't convert the chances he's given.
As a Striker he should be running the first five yards in his head, he lacks the basic instinct of a striker, he lacks anticipation, he's always late.
Imagine you are a wing back, or a wide forward, busting a gut to get down the line, you cross the ball, and Hoijland arrives a second late, that's just poor anticipation, he's no RVN, and never will be.
 
I feel for him now he came into a bad squad before he was ready and has now lost the plot, he doesn’t know where to be in the box he’s drained of confidence. Ideally he needs taking out and gradually brought back in until he finds himself, but we don’t have many options up front.
 
He has no football smarts. He wastes so much energy fighting with defenders. He’s really quite poor.
 
We gambled on potential and it’s not paid off.

Confidence has gone and he won’t get it back playing for Utd.

He needs to leave in the summer.
