Rasmus Højlund | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

Guys please refrain from discussing a player in a discussion form. Already at 18 posts - calm down!

(I know it’s a match discussion thread but is also for general discussion)

Rename the thread, or be a smart arse. Tough call.

He had a positive impact, helped to bring others into the game and as a consequence United played better. Top touch for the disallowed goal. Look forward to the impact he has going forward.

He’s going to bully lots of centre backs this season. He will be a real focal point but it’s whether he can put the ball in the net.

We looked better with him on, made the wrong run once, he's raw. The real test will be when he has a goal scoring opp.

Did ok though

Just on his performance today how much do you think United should've paid for him? Asking for an imaginary friend.

Looks a handful and seemed to enjoy putting himself about against a physical side, the occasion didn’t seem to bother him.

Unlucky with a chance that was blocked at the front post, but good to see a Utd striker getting in there for that sort of chance.

Difficult to say until we see him in goal scoring opportunities.

Forwards need to score, goalies need to keep the ball out the net. Fundamentals.

He looked an improvement on what we have though, in those 30 mins

I think he gives us someone else to hit and play off when teams go and press us after we’ve drawn them in.

He looks like a proper centre forward.

Going to be ups and downs with him.

Think he was too fired up, Casemiro didn't help, but no blame there as he probably thought he was doing the right thing.

Nah mate that'll never catch on .... ;)

Hojlunds first coach has said he's not as talented as Bendtner  let's hope he's clueless

Wouldn't pay to much attention to a clickbait headline like that.

Bendtner to be fair as a young player was an incredible talent he just wasn't a good professional. Enjoyed to many nights out on the town and didn't dedicate himself to his career in the way those that reach the very top do.

Hopefully Hojlund has that desire and drive to get everything he can out of his ability and not fall into the same traps Bendtner did.

Decent debut, took the disallowed goal well. If we create clear chances for him, i'm sure he'll score goals.

Yeah looked pretty bright and a whisker away from getting a home debut goal. Think he’ll score plenty but Rashford did waste some good positions when Hojlund was on for a pass.

Only caught the highlights but he looked bright as he did vs Arsenal he's very fast but he's got some nice touches too.

Think once him and Rashford get on the same wavelength and Rashford realises there's someone who is actually up with him on attacks and waiting at the back post they could combine well.

Took his chance well just unlucky that Rashford had run the ball out of play.

The important thing I saw was we finally had a centre forward who's in the right sort of place to score goals he stands in the box and he looks to get across his man.

Very impressive first start, and against a good defence as well. And it was the right call to take him off when EtH did.

Think he will scare the crap out of Bayern's dodgy defence ....

First goal on his third appearance.

I think he looks the part

Yeah think he’ll score plenty for us going forward. Gets into some good positions but really needs our other attacking players to be more precise with their passing.

Scruffy goal but good for him to get that first goal early in his time here.

The side has been crying out for a striker who scores scruffy goals for years the only one we've had in recent times is Cavani.

We finally have a player who's looking to get on the end of crosses and he also looks to get amongst the centre backs and give them a hard time.

Kept quiet while everyone has been blowing him on here
Not seeing he's got the quality to lead the line for united myself.
Think we need to bid for Toney

Nice little bit of analysis of his qualities and what he brings to the team on Match of the Day.

Blowing him?

Let yourself down there.

He's young, quick and strong. Deserves a chance.
Of course he deserves a chance

Think he’ll score plenty

To the manor born, think we might have a superstar on our hands

I'm not seeing any of this. I'll be amazed if he gets more than 15 goals.
He looks a bit clueless and nervous on the ball.

We need a goal scorer and we should target Toney

Against Arsenal he was a real menace in his little cameo.

Against Brighton he would have got a goal were it not for Rashford taking the ball slightly out of play.

Against Bayern he got a goal and was a good focal point.

Against Burnley he didn’t have one of his better games but it was still good to see us having a proper striker who can put himself about.

We do like to write off players early on here don’t we!

Last night he almost got on the end of two crosses. The one Dalot drilled along the box and the one Rashford knocked down that the defender just got a toe to.

Was another one that he put over the bar which was offside in the build up.

He shows for the ball in the right areas and is starting to link with his team mates.

He did waste a great counter attack chance in the 2nd half with runners either side he played a poor pass which killed the moved.

Still a very raw talent but another 7/10 from the big man.

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve time. I'm saying some fans are overplaying it.
I think we need another striker to take the pressure off and get the goals.
I think we'd be crazy not to go got Toney.

Of course we need another striker we needed 2 in the summer as Martial isn’t worth considering with his injuries. Probably stuck with him this season but think his contract expires in the summer as he will need to be replaced.

It is a tricky one ideally looking at our squad you kind of want a player that can play either as a striker or on the right because that is where we are weakest.

I really like Toney despite him being a boyhood Liverpool fan he’d be a great signing.

60 million and he's yours, apparently.

I think clubs will try and wait until the summer just to make sure he returns to the level he was at before the ban but I think that price tag is pretty fair. in the summer he has 1 year left on his deal so Brentford probably have to sell.

He is 28 in March so still got plenty of years left in him and he isn’t a player who’s suffered many injuries prior to his ban he barely missed a game in the last 3 seasons.

Great analysis.

I think we sometimes focus on what players do on the ball far too much. What you do without the ball in creating space for others can also be just as key.

I have no doubt he will be a success. The ingredients are there to be a top top striker.

Least he was a plus tonight. The pace and power he showed for the second goal was impressive. If only the donkeys behind him could do their jobs!
