Premier League 2024/25: Man United vs Newcastle - Mon 30th Dec - 20:00 KO

We had the same problems with this midfield under ETH they haven't suddenly turned to shit, 2 aging players in Eriksen and Case is just not acceptable, this goes a back a long way and we seeing the results from bad signings one after another, its not complicated.

No he didn't. Conte played a 3-4-2-1. The 'wing backs' were very much pushed up and midfielders that dropped in. Victor Moses was never a defender. It never became a 7 at the back.

He also only played it when forced in to it. When trying to replicate it he couldn't. He also had one of the best players in the world at the time.

Splitting hairs here aren’t we as most would describe the Amorim system as 3-4-2-1 but he’s clearly struggling to find the right players to slot into it.

Pedro and Hazard stayed wide in the Conte system.

The main difference was Conte had a much better squad of players to play it with.

I’m not quite sure why both Maz and Dalot are playing. Dalot plays very high up the pitch that why not just play Garnacho? That’s a puzzling decision for me.

The squad is a shambles and most of them need selling/letting go.

Hard to see where the next victory is coming from. Tough to suggest we are in a relegation battle but I don’t have confidence we can beat anyone at the moment.

Amorim doesent have many options with this squad, might as well park the bus and go for draws because they sure as F88k cant win a game.

Mourinho’s chelsea is the only side that won the league playing 4-3-3 every week.

Mancini and Pelligrini both played 4-2-3-1 at City

Fergie mainly 4-4-2 but switched to 4-3-3 in big games and 4-2-3-1 in later years.

Wenger 4-4-2 but later moved to 4-2-3-1 but didn’t really have success with it.

Ranieri’s Leicester was 4-4-2

Dalglish at Blackburn was 4-4-2

Pep was the first manager to dominate in this country playing 4-3-3
It is like saying that all 4-3-3 is the same. As Cruijff said his diamond is not the same as other manager's diamond. This is obviously not working and would not work with the players he is trying to play the way he wants to play. we need a midfield player who can hold the ball and keep possession. I still say playing Casemiro and Uguarte together is the solution for now. We need to stop conceding silly goals.

I think most hoped Amorim would play a 3-4-2-1. However he's learnt over here he's actually playing a 5-2-2-1.

Did Conte really have better players to use or make use of his players better?

He turned Victor Moses in to the best right full back in the world! And yes as you state Conte played an entirely different system where his 2 behind the striker were there to create width also which bred space. So nothing like this Amorim system.

However I'm glad you brought up Fergie. Top managers don't align themselves to a formation they change the formation to match the game. Fergie was the king of the 4-4-2. Realised it no longer worked and quickly adapted.

Fergie won the title playing 4-3-3.

What formation do you think Klopp played when winning it?

Which season did we play 4-3-3 in the majority of games?

I don’t recognise that title but they won it once and their current manager has changed it to 4-2-3-1.

Kante, Hazard, Matic, Diego Costa & Pedro all in their prime.

Azpilecueta & Courtois as well. Alonso was a top wing back and like you said Moses really hit it off in that system.

It was short lived but it was a hell of a side

You feel for Amorim with the dross squad he has inherited
Spot on bud! The squad is dross. Just looking at the players you have and the way they’ve played. So many bad players. So many others who are just out of form but have been for a while.

If you get good players suited to a system and coached to that system then they will win games.
If you get average or poor players and put them in a system they aren't suited to and don't coach them then you will lose games.
It's really that simple.
