Premier League 2024/25: Arsenal vs Man United - Weds 4th Dec - 20:15 KO

Second one was a bit of a fluke but they’ve bullied us all night on set pieces. The desire their players have to win the ball is miles greater than ours
Zero to do with desire. We are set up wrong to defend them.

Having seen the second again Onana could have come for that.

Let's hope this isn't a sign of things to come from set pieces though.

They are the best in the world at it though!

I dunno there’s an aggression required on set pieces especially zonal marking. You have to attack the ball with aggression and not allow yourself to be man handled.

We don’t have enough players who are going to win their 1 vs 1 battles in the air. We have to many players who don’t fancy that fight.

He’s going to need a better plan for the game later in the season.

Can't handicap em by having them stood still whilst the other team get a run at em either. Should have been a change after 5 mins to that nevermind half time!

If our lads all go stand at the back post with all the Arsenal players I can pretty much guarantee what will happen.

You don’t just stand still you have a starting position but you have to read the flight, react quick and attack the ball.

We didn’t do that we let them bundle through us you have to get your arms out and block the pack coming through.

I do think he will put a couple of blockers in for the cup game.

Just seen a replay of the first goal.

We have 2 guys at the back, 2 in the middle and 2 at the front post Arsenal have 6 all at the back. All 6 of them run front post not 1 receives any contact from the men at the back post or in the middle.

Those 4 players have to disrupt the runners and make it much harder for them to get to the front post.

They don’t sprint and barge past they jog. It’s embarrassing you have to do something to disrupt those runners.

That is where I mention desire and aggression that has to change next game.

Casemiro will have to come in.

I don't think many players came out looking good decent tonight
Amad, Maz, de ligt.

Annoying to get done on corners twice, so frustrating that Dalot chance was the wrong player in the right place. We didn't create much outside of that.

I think you can see a few of our players are a little ill at ease with this formation and are learning as they go.

Overall from open play we nullified them pretty well but the corners killed us. This wasn’t a surprising result as they are clearly better than us but the lack of attacking bite was a little worrying.

Didn't see the game. From what I've read, at least it wasn't a battering.

Two positives for me; Yoro got minutes and Amorin will have a much better understanding of the state of the team.

First half both teams kind of cancelled each other out but second half they pushed on to us a bit and we were under quite a bit of pressure.

They weren't really cutting through us but they were forcing so many corners which they were causing us a lot of problems with.

Think we had one shot on goal which was a De Ligt header which forced a decent save. There was that an a shot that Dalot hit wide first half but really it was a couple of half chances.

The better side won.

Arsenal didnt create much, as the home side.

They are just a set piece team, very good at it. As soon as they get a corner teams crap themselves.

I like Amorim tried to change it immediately after the first goal. Too many players had an off night.

Disappointed even though I wasn't expecting anything.

On the plus side, they got closer to Liverpool

We didn’t really learn anything new from the performance. United lacked cohesion and toothless in their attacking play.

I think we learnt a load, the players are crap...haha just joking.

I think he set up to defend because he knew we had little chance, for the first 45 they did really well at it.

They conceded two goals to corners, and Arsenal are deadly at those.

I think we look more like a team playing a system every passing game. I can see what they are trying to do.

We learnt that set pieces are definitely an issue. They could have had 5 or 6 from corners were first to almost everyone. We've not been great at attacking set pieces in years (though look better with De Ligt in the side) but defensively we havent been that bad have we?

And hopefully Amorim learnt he shouldn't be playing Bruno behind Mount.

I tell you what we are are also terrible at, and been terrible for years, throw ins. We have no idea.

I think set pieces in both boxes have been a problem for a while, I would guess these stats include goals direct from free kicks.

Last season we conceded 14 goals from set pieces and scored 9. We were 15th for goals scored from set pieces in the league last season and were 7th for goals conceded from set pieces.

Season before we scored 5 the worst in the league and conceded 10 which was 12th in the league.

A big part of it for me is the squad we built under ETH wasn't particularly big in size and they certainly weren't physical players.

The main issue is we don't have players who attack the ball well in the air in the squad you are looking at Maguire, Evans and Casemiro as the 3 players who really dominate in the air and none of them are nailed on starters.

Our corner kicks are terrible. When you consider the quality Rice and Saka put in

I do think in that particular game the delivery from Rice was possibly the best I've seen from an opposition player in a game against us. He must have taken 6 or 7 corners and I reckon he put 5 of them right on the money.

I think for a long time we've had players who take ok corners but we've not had someone who takes brilliant ones for a while.

I don't expect Amorim to fix the attacking set pieces this season but it's got to be something he's looking at sorting in pre season as it's such an easy way to score goals. There is no reason to not be brilliant at them.

There's a lot to fix in our team. I think Amorim is starting with the basics, which is definitely the way to go. I think a lot of the training right now will be tactics based. Making our formation/style of play work effectively is the key right now.

I agree though there is no reason we shouldn't be better at set-pieces, they're abysmal. They're something you should always be doing in training. Amorim gets the benefit of the doubt here, he can't fix everything instantly.
