Premier League 2023/24: Aston Villa vs Man United - Sun 11th Feb - 16:30 KO

The diving from the Villa players is a disgrace.
Yep a few of them are at it.

A pretty even half. There are goals in this for Villa but we look dangerous on the counter. A pretty enjoyable half overall.

Eth has to sort the midfield out at half time Villa are going through us with ease, they will score eventually if he leaves it like this.
Need to appeal Case’s yellow it was a clear dive, this ref is easily fooled.

Yeah Ramsey is picking up some great positions and getting beyond Mainoo and Casemiro. Neither of those have great pace so they will eventually make us pay but sure that’ll be a topic of conversation at half time.

Ball retention/composure has been poor. Casemiro especially and Fernandes need to be better.

Good that we saw out that spell of pressure we usually concede.

Midfield isnt working

I hope they come out switched on and not with their heads up their arses or it will be over very quickly.

McT is dynamite in the box!

Fantastic win and we are on the charge! Been a fanastic week or two.

Huge win! Credit to Ten Hag, who made the right call to replace Rashford. Rashford wasn’t providing the support for Lindelof, who was struggling at left back. United had better control of the match after the change.

Good job we have someone that can head a ball well in Scotty, dreadful second half that just about keeps 4th spot chances alive .

All in all I thought we played well against a very good Villa side. Defence should take the plaudits with Onana, Maguire, Dalot and Varane doing well. Maguire was the leader we needed.

Hojland, Mainoo, Garnacho and Bruno played well. Which is not to say they were consistent.

Hojland will prove to be an astute buy.

ETH knows how to use McT. A very valuable squad player when managed like this.

Big win. And the confidence must be pumping.

I thought we played well against a top Villa side. Interesting to hear Keown's view on our midfield. He feels that we get cut through our midfield too often and one of the reason could be that we never seem to have all our 11 players playing well. It is too much to put everything on the shoulders on a 18 year old kid. Bruno is a fantastic player who will defend and play wonderful passes and attack but he cannot simply hold the ball. Hopefully Cas is coming back to form will help us out better.

We dug in through a tough spell either side of half time.

The managers changes seemed to ease the pressure in the final 20 and one of them popped up to grab the winner.

3 huge points puts pressure on Villa for 5th and 3 wins in a row, must be the 1st time this season?

Yeah must be the first time, a great chance to keep up the momentum with Luton away and Fulham at home.

Then it’s City away which is tough under any circumstances.

I never thought that we were under the cosh any time though we did defend a lot deeper at the start of the game. What we need now is to get a quicker and a younger midfield player ( compared to Cas) who is as good as he was in his prime and which is going to be a tough ask.
I also think we need a quality left winger who is going to give his all every game.

Just got to win our games now, can’t afford to many slip ups.

Villa’s next 3 are Fulham, Forest and Luton so they’ll fancy getting plenty of points from those games.

This to me in an interesting match. They will attack us but it all depends on what Rashford turns up. If it is the current Rashford then no. If it was last years's Rashford we can beat them.

To think the less intelligent in our fan-base(online) were desperate for United to sell Man of the Match Maguire and match-winner McTominay in the Summer, if it wasn't so sad it would be funny.

Oh yeah Onana is shit as well .....

Villas home record is better than City’s this season. A very good result and 3 points. Quietly in a good run of form.

Think a big positive is in the last few weeks we've played a couple of teams above us and been willing to take them on blow for blow. Spurs and Villa were two tough games on paper and we've come out of them with 4 points which to me is very good given the mess we've been in through the first half of the season.

They're a cracking side the energy in midfield from McGinn is relentless and the forwards are full of speed and spark there won't be many sides that can limit them to just a single goal at home this season.

Last season they hammered us at Villa Park so going there and getting a win was big as wins away against top half sides have been hard to come by but in the last few weeks we've beaten Villa and Wolves.

The big thing for me recently is the goals they are finally starting to flow it feels like you can expect this Utd side to get 1 or 2 in every game and that's a huge difference to the first few months of the season where you couldn't see where the goals were ever going to come from.

Was surprised at that when it was mentioned in commentary, thought with the players they have, and the system they play they'd be better away. The few times I've seen them(full games) they have been.

First time we've beaten a side in the top nine away from home for yonks which is so not Manchester United.

Good result that for you boys! A less there would have put you 11 points behind Villa but by winning you are now only 5 points? And they look like they are starting to slip a little bit.

That's 'A' level Maths and English right there in one post. Guess that is why you were made a Moderator ;)
