Just had Schweinsteiger on the radio. He thought Liverpool were the better side and played the better football. He also said united were way off the top sides in Europe. Now I know I've been hard on the team after the first two matches, but come on mate, it's 3 games.

A lot of this is probably true even with 6 first team players missing they still had 70% of the ball and created plenty of chances it was real back to walls stuff and defending for our lives but you'd probably argue their keeper made the better saves and we hit the post so Utd carried a threat through the game.

There's a long way for Utd to go to make these games a lot more competitive but Utd are at the start of a process and we maybe have to play this way for a bit in these games while we rebuild the team to a level where they can go proper toe to toe with a side as good as Liverpool.

Them having more possession was a part of the plan. Bring their line up and use our pace in behind.

And we were explosive with the ball. Actually thought the scoreline flattered Liverpool not that they deserved any better.

How many real chances did they really have? 1? Even de Gea’s best save came of a terrible kick from Martinez. I was not worried until the 2-1, but then only because we were known to crumble last season and this was Liverpool. No, we were the better team, in control. Just not most possession.

Xg was Man Utd 2.3 Liverpool 1.6

It wasn't really chances it was just the relentless pressure and our inability to really clear our lines luckily in the injury time we actually managed to get up the pitch a bit and relieve some of the pressure.

I don't think the plan is let them have 70% of the ball obviously at 1-0 up it suits us to drop off a bit more than we did in the first 20 minutes where we really went after them but ideally you defend leads with the ball. The reason it kept coming back was we couldn't keep hold of it and make the ball stick up front.

That is the next evolution of this side which will probably be a year away we need to be able to keep the ball much better against top sides to relieve pressure and allow players to recharge their batteries.

Malacia for me was phenomenal....surely adding maguire and Shaw back into that defensive line now would be a massive error....

I think Bruno nearly scored an own goal, wished I could have seen that, sounded comical. And apparantly Martinez did really well to get back on the line.

The commentry said there were lots of high fives and tens between the players, especially defensively which is a much better attitude than the previous two games.

And to see players like Bruno helping out at the back, busting a gut.

I feel very positive after that match

Bruno did almost score an own goal. Not sure Martinez did well though. Just hits him. If it was deliberate than it was a penalty.

They said he did well to get back, not necesarily on the clearance. It sounded difficult to explain, but it went over his head and he had to chace back to get onto the line?

I havent looked for a video yet.

Did sound comical.

Not sure what Bruno was thinking though. Just boot it up field or pass it behind for a corner don't try and put it over your own goal and get it that drastically wrong.

It was going wide I think he just panicked and tried to hoof it away but sliced it luckily Martinez was stood there to save him.

Martinez almost had an OG as well nipped in front of the striker but the ball was going just inside the post luckily De Gea had enough time to get a hand to it and turn it away.

Bruno also embarrassed himself with a silly dive and was into the ref all night the refs must hate him.

Did they ever start retroactively suspending people for diving or did it come in but never actually happen?

There's just no point to it. Say he cons the ref, VAR has a look and overturns it anyway.

They did it for a season then scrapped it they could never be sure.

He anticipated a slide tackle from Robertson which never came once you commit to the "dive" it's very hard to stop he didn't appeal and he didn't complain took the yellow card which put him in trouble for the rest of the game.

Problem with VAR is say there's minimal contact and the ref gives the penalty it's unlikely that it's overturned by VAR as they only correct it if there's a clear and obvious error. They don't judge it as a fresh set of eyes they are only there to make sure it isn't a complete howler which to me is wrong the VAR if he's going to review it should not take into consideration the refs original decision.

Still buzzing....nowt beats beating that lot...and who cares if they had more of the ball, the best team in Europe last season were always going to have the lions share of possession when they were 2-0 down.

100%. Possession is right up at the top of the useless stats list alongside cost of the squad and potential win percentage. We had 67% possession against Brentford and were never in control. Likewise Liverpool's possession yesterday. We were in control for the most part and created the better chances. If anything 2-1 flattered them, as it could easily have been 4.

True but the long term goal of ETH football is to have 67% of the ball and control which is essentially what all the top sides are doing now.

Only one stat that counts. Bloody love beating them, and the manner in which we did it.

I love Malacia, his tenacity is so infectious. There was a moment yesterday when the camera panned to Shaw and Maguire talking in the dug out, and i'm sure they must have been wondering when they will next get a game ;).
