Still not sure if it’ll be game on Wolves last 2 games were called off due to Covid surely the league won’t let them miss 3 games even if they have to play kids so who knows what we will be up against.

for Utd Lindelof could return as his Covid isolation ends today but I don’t know if he’s had symptoms or just a positive test, as far as I’m aware we have to release Bailly for AFCoN which seems odd because other African players are available this weekend. Utd had actually released him early to join the squad then called him back.

Other team news didn’t look like we suffered any injuries last night and Bruno has now served his 1 game ban.

Wolves gave us a real test earlier in the season Utd very fortunate to get the 1-0 victory thanks to a Greenwood goal from memory Trincao caused us loads of problems but wasted his chances. Havent seen much of Wolves this season but their games are normally low scoring they’ve scored 13 let in 14 in their 18 games so far so they’ll be a very tough side to break down.

For Utd it’ll be the 3rd game in 8 days so I’m expecting some rotation.

DDG

Dalot Varane Maguire Shaw

Greenwood McTominay Fred Sancho

Ronaldo Bruno

Cant see Matic and Cavani starting back to back games i think we need the width to try and stretch Wolves across the pitch like we did vs Burnley try and create some pockets of space for Bruno.

My only worry is the lack of target in the air up top it’ll be difficult for us to be as direct as we were vs Burnley as Ronaldo is not a back to goal target man which means bringing the ball up the pitch with short passes which we are not good at.

We've struggled to score against them recently but it's got a 5-0 all over it, fully expect Ronaldo, Cavani, Greenwood et al to fill their boots.

Settle for a depressing boring 1-0 though.

Maguire OUT
Lindelof OUT
Bailly (late fitness test)

Sound the alarm it’s Phil Jones time

Eeeeep it’s time for Phil.

Although would be inclined to have Shaw at left centre back and Telles at left back.

Hope he gets a great reception.

He has had rotten luck and it’s been a very long road back.

Iffy start Wolves been having most of the ball and already had a few shots at goal.

Utd still don’t really look like much of a team bit more solid but very sloppy on the ball.

like Burnley it’s 4-4-2 with Sancho and Greenwood as wingers.

I'm looking forward to JC explaining how McT hasn't been awful this half.

Poor first 30 minutes. Ball retention has been poor. I would swap Fernandes for Cavani to add another body midfield and link play but he’s as guilty as anyone for giving the ball away.

Jones has been very solid indeed. The rest a bit meh.

Fernandes on for Cavani very early on in the second I would say. We are losing out in midfield and we are lucky to be going in goalless. Hope Ralf gives them a bit of a rocket at half time because we have been so so laboured.

worst passing side in the league this lot genuinely pathetic when it comes to passing the ball to each other and the movement required to find space. So easy to press us into making mistakes.

Not sure this front 2 is really working neither runs in behind and they don’t really seem to link up with each other and work together to create chances.

It’s the same as what we often saw vs Burnley they’re happy to force us wide and deal with the crosses that come in they back themselves to deal with it.

Where we really hurt Burnley was quick switches of the ball to find the man in the space we haven’t found those sort of balls once today.

I have not been able to watch the match. Is it going to be one of those nights or is there any signs of improvement in the second half?

Can I have Ole back yet? At least I could cling to the fact he was a club legend.

No one can tell me the performances have improved.

Not convinced this lot can be taught.

they’re an absolute mess.

Bruno takes that chance we win 1-0 he looks a genius that is the margins he’s dealing with.

Teams can’t keep having this many chances against us it’s pathetic Wolves have battered us

Not good enough. Passing incredible sloppy. Poor substitutions. Cavani and Ronaldo too slow as front two.

Absolutely spineless performance. No-one showed any passion. Also why was Greenwood replaced? If he wasn’t injured then that was a stupid decision.

There is no signs of improvement but Ralf, Ole or anyone cannot plan for basic errors by our players. Some of our passing was so laughable at times.

They’ve given up on the league most that lot know they won’t be here next season.

not sure what has happened but physically this team looks weaker than last season they’ve got no energy, tactically we are a mess and technically there’s some very average players in that team.

It really feels like we are back to square one 2018 with Mourinho stuff a squad of players who hate being Utd players, fans hate most of the players and De Gea bailing us out game after game.

They won‘t make top 4 this season nowhere near it

As JSP said, I don't think the current squad can be taught or perhaps want to listen. We need an overhaul but this cannot be achieved in 2 transfer windows.

Rashford hitting an easy pass 30 yards to long straight to their keeper, Ronaldo passing the ball back to our CBs when receiving the ball back to goal when at the final third of the pitch, Ronaldo shooting at goal when he should have held up play to wait for support, players not making themselves available for the pass. No energy or pressing, and too many players hiding.

Luke Shaw has just said he felt the players weren't together on the pitch, and did not put enough pressure on Wolves.

For me, the first team now should only include 11 players who will ALL run, chase and press the opposition. The players need to shut the f*ck up, grow a pair and put in shift every game.

Just all gone stale I think the new signings in the summer haven’t worked maybe had the opposite effect of unsettling players as no one really left to make way for the new signings.

this summer Utd have to clear out players its going to hurt financially but it has to happen.

Rangnick now has a week to work with pretty much the full squad before Villa we need to start seeing something as what we see currently is pretty dull safety first football. De Gea always kicking long as they aren’t good enough to play from the back, midfield has no real control of the game even against poor sides, up top it’s still every man trying the one man show.

it just feels like another season that will drift to the inevitable conclusion of 7th place over before it even really got started and another inquest p, cultural reboot, root and branch reform call it whatever you want.

Remember when everyone was worried that if Ralf did well how could we replace him.

Ralf will have realised he needs a lot of time to work with this squad. I hoped we would begin to see a change, but there appears to be a self before team mentality that needs addressing immediately.

Wise words mate I think Ralf is here to do a job a massive clear out needed and lay the foundations for the new Manager

I don't see it improving under him there’s just to many players in that squad who can’t play his way my guess is he will try to work with the ones who can and then look to get the ones who can’t out.

there’s to many players who look like they hate playing for Man Utd until that’s solved not a lot will change.

Too many whingers in the United team. Too many who can't handle the pressure but don't work hard enough in games to deserve to win.

Finally people are starting to realise it just may be the players and not the manager at fault.

The only plus point is that Ragnick is staying longer than the next 6 months in a position to bring serious change.

I don't see it bud I really don't. Too much needs to change in that squad and within the club. Rangnick isn't going to be able to turn this around even after this year.

We have precious few creative players, and those we do have (Pogba, Bruno) don't play well in the Rangnick 4 222 system. There were a few times when we had the ball out wide with Sancho or Greenwood, and when they looked up both our forwards are planted in the opposition D, not moving, not dragging defenders, not making runs. What are they supposed to do with the ball, just pump it into the box a la Young and hope for the best? The RR system needs all the parts working together to function, and when the forwards are static, or the fullbacks don't attack or the players like Sancho and Rashford don't track runners from midfield it all falls apart.

Ronaldo or Cavani but not both.
Jones after 1 game immediately moves ahead of Maguire and Lindelof in the pecking order.
AWB can't fecking attack can't cross, it's maddening.
Shaw is an on-off switch lately. Last game he was great, this one he was MIA.
McTominay same, today he was awful.
Without Bruno pulling strings or Pogba looking for the sublime pass, we have nothing but journeyman out there.

I didn't see that today. What I saw was too many players being forced to look for Cavani or Ronaldo instead of taking the man on. I saw Greenwood and Sancho both do this (although Greenwood also blasted a shot over instead of playing in someone). I see players with instructions that make them do too much second-guessing and not playing instinctively. Part of this is they have their pressing / defensive duties in their minds so any time they lose the ball (like AWB did a few times) suddenly they are miles up the pitch, leaving Varane 1v1 on too many occasions.

tl;dr we don't have the player for this system, and this system is basically modern football, not some crazy ass LVG style. We need upgrades on at least half the team. I'd opt for youth team players rather than persisting with senior players who can't perform.

Out of today's bunch I'd give passing marks to Jones, Varane, DeGea, Greenwood, and Sancho is on the fence. Everyone else was poor.

The major step backwards for this team, was getting Ronaldo.

We didn't need him, we needed other positions filling.

The team is terrible, and perhaps as someone else said, Ole wasn't the problem.

CB is proving a real problem still, as well as not dominating in the middle.

It's all a bit depressing really. We are a 4-7 position side at best. And I see us being that for many years. It's difficult to see how we get out of this cycle. Lots of players need shifting, lots of players need buying and coaching needs to change. What you don't get in football is time.

For the club, Glazers need to sell.

It can be both and you also have to plug the board into this the whole clubs been a mess for near on a decade it felt like it was turning a corner under Ole but then very quickly it's all fallen apart again.

We've changed the coach now it's time to change some of the players someone has to make the hard decisions Ole/Woodward weren't prepared to make and take more painful losses on players who aren't performing and/or don't want to be Man Utd players anymore.

Far to many players have been indulged at this club and failure consistently rewarded with new contracts. Mata does nothing gets a new deal because he's a good lad, Bailly injured all the time gets a new deal because we don't want to buy a replacement, Pogba pretty publically wanted to leave for 3 seasons but never sold, Lingard why wasn't he told to leave last summer.

I know the fixtures have been a little kinder but the results post Ole but the performances are hugely worrying it's so easy to get attempts on our goal.
