Are Saudi really dropping big money on players like this anymore?

Now they've got the world cup it feels like they've rowed back a bit of the league investment.

I've been watching United for over 50 years and have seen some great keepers (Schmeichel, Van der Sar) and some donkeys (Paddy Roche, Bartez, Taibi)

This guy is most firmly in the 'Donkey' classification.

Another truly terrible ETH signing

We have now seen the replacement though and it is not good.

Not with Lindelof in front of him basically not trying to stop shots
We all know Bayandir isn’t top drawer that again gets filed under bad recruitment along with many others but he can’t be worse than the Lemon, the defending against the Barcodes was abysmal so we have to take that into account.

Bit like the goal conceded against Forest, but it was Onana who was at fault?

Bit like Barnes’ second goal yesterday?
After Thursday I think it's difficult to put Onana back in goal. I think ETH biggest mistake (but actually on the board) was messing around with De Geas contract.

A lot of you made out he was done. But he's miles better than what we paid a silly sum to replace him with.

A man after my own heart.
Went through an awful lot of tripe to get to Schmiechel, then we have to put up with this clown in the autumn of our years

ETH didn't want De Gea, he wanted a keeper who could play out from the back, and act as a sweeper, he couldn't find one so bought Onana instead.

To a degree yes but Barnes shot was un saveable it was practically in the top corner, Elanga`s low shot was far more preventable.
Not sure what you are trying to prove here but Onana has had a lot of opportunities and he`s keeps messing up, Byandir isnt amazing and no one is saying he is but until he gets a run of games we`ll never know.

Moving on from De Gea was not a mistake. He made several mistakes in his final season and was on massive wages. Who replaced him is seemingly looking like the mistake.

De Gea was starting to drop clangers people forget this, his distribution wasn't good either, great in his best years but he was fading try not have favourite players it clouds the judgment.

Elanga’s shot was in the corner, I don’t think any goalkeeper would have saved that.

Onana is a better goalkeeper than Byandir, who has made several mistakes in a limited number of appearances.

Well I disagree ask any keeper which type of shot is harder to save ( I do) and the high shots are harder because you have to get off the ground as well as push yourself upwards, I take it you saw the state of Lindelof against the barcodes, not just him but we were left wide open because he couldent be bothered to try, Byandir was left exposed too many times.

The two massive gaffs against Lyon should be enough to show anyone how bad he is, the tie on Thursday is now on a knife edge when we could have been taking a 2-0 lead into the game.

If United are to get back to being a top team who are competing for major honours then they need to replace Onana. But they aren’t there right now and they won’t be for some time so spending big on a GK probably shouldn’t be high on their list right now.

I think you can pick up a solid keeper for less than £20m if you've done your homework well.

We paid a big premium for Onana off the back of the best season of his career. That year at Inter he moved from being considered a good keeper to being viewed as a "great one" and Inter didn't want to sell him so charged a big price.

Hindsight being a wonderful thing that decision was a mistake.

Moving on from De Gea was the right thing to do he didn't fit how ETH wanted to play and his main attribute which was his shot stopping wasn't as good as it was before.

I told you all how bad this keeper was right from the start. I said he'd have more games like he did in the Champions League and here we are. His gifts to Lyon could end up being the reason we go out of another competition.

He's going to be close to impossible to sell now. Who wants such a dodgy keeper?

What we need to do is cut our losses before he costs us more important matches.

He’s absolutely honking and it baffles me that he’s playing at the level he is. We have to cut our losses and take it on the chin.

Thoughts on Ramsdale as a potential signing in the summer? It’s reported he has a £25m relegation release clause with Southampton.

I’ve never been 100% convinced by him, so would be hugely on the fence. But a few reports (although not from reputable sources) are linking us with him.

He's a better option than Onana, less liable to make mistakes, but still needs a solid defence in front of him, which we don't have.

Nope not a Utd keeper.

Arsenal was to much pressure to handle, I’d be surprised if we went near him.

Ramsdale shouldn’t be considered and it’s an indictment of where this club is at that a bloke relegated numerous times and with a questionable ability is even be discussed.

Why can't we consider a goalkeeper who actually does his job and saves shots. All this carry on about a keeper who thinks he's Messi is a joke. Save the shot, go forward and attack. In my mind We can't play out from the back so go back to basics

The basics being giving the ball the opposition 70% of the time from a goal kick.

There is a reason everyone does it now and the goal should be to get a lot better at doing it because the top sides have shown in can be done.

I take your point but I would rather lose the ball 70 yards from goal and regroup as opposed to the shambles at Newcastle. In my opinion, At present we are nowhere near good enough to play this way

To even play that way we’d have to change a lot of players as none of our forwards are suited to holding it up and scrapping for 2nd balls.

This squad can’t play either way very well so I’d rather build the squad that can play from the back.

Going long you just end up being pushed back

As I said, I don't totally disagree with you in the long term. I'm referring to the current players. I just get scared every time the ball is in or around our box
