I really hope we give this to an English main contractor. The last 3 big stadiums built in this country have had foreign main contractors. We have the ability to do it.

I think like Spurs it will be built under a construction management contract.

I can’t see the big main contractors taking the risk on that sort of project.

Stadiums were a big reason for the collapse of Buckingham Group.

Rumours are Laing O’Rourke are losing money on the Everton ground.

The subbies will all be UK based

The roof leaking and flooding out concourses hasn't helped with those costs.
I was also (unreliably) informed that they put in a low bid just to get the contract

Still doesn’t help with the job of finding £2bn to build the stadium that’s for the owners to work out.

The wider development could help fund it though as with government support for development the land the club owns will increase in value and it sounds like there will be incentives for developers to fund the projects.

It’s looking almost certain it will be a new ground now rather than refurbishing the current one. Sadly it’s the only way to do it but still think it’s a very long way from getting off the ground.

Looks incredible and it’s good to see the club making big bold plans to build the best stadium in the world.

Hopefully the club won’t forget that local fans need to able to afford to go and watch the games once it’s built.

It's not working for me.

If its the one I've seen with the "netting" on the outside.

That could look tatty very quickly.

Nice stadium though

I mean the stadium would be built in 5 years but all that stuff around it would be 15-20 years of development work.

Just me that is really uncomfortable with it all? I know these things never tend to actually look like the finished project but I just feel a bit numb and not really buying into it.

While the Glazers own the club it’s abhorrent, spending money to build a new stadium from government money which at the moment isn’t clear or from any other source is wrong if they will be taking dividends.

Not what they are saying on Radio Manchester, they are saying it’s not clear if there’s taxpayers money going in yet, City fans are spewing.

It's bold, that's for sure. Foster's video sold it better than the other one.

Once reality gets it's hands on those lovely concepts, I'd be surprised if the final product looks like the presentation.

Still, it's great to see they're going for something extraordinary.

The radio are just sh*t stirring.

There wont be a penny of government money spent on the stadium.

The government funding will be paying for the necessary infrastructure works to regenerate the land around the stadium.

It's also rich coming from City fans. Who paid to build their stadium?

They weren’t shit stirring they were just having a phone in and asking for opinions, it was balanced United fans basically a bit sad that Old Trafford was going to be demolished but happy about the new stadium and bitter blues saying they won’t be paying their council tax.

I think it has the potential to be absolutely stunning and a real sight to behold.

Sadly OT has just become so old that a move to a new stadium has always been a likely outcome. The money that it would take to regenerate OT would be vast so you may as well invest that in a new stadium.

We are one of the best clubs in the world and we need the facilities to match that. It would be a wrench to leave OT but it’s an exciting plan for the clubs future.

Well they are sh*t stirring because the bitter blues should be told that their council tax will not be funding the stadium.

They are allowing people to come on their radio show and spout b*llocks which will spread unless it's nipped in the bud.

Calm down it’s a handful of people spouting off, doesn’t make it true, where exactly the money is coming from hasn’t been announced and probably won’t be for a while.
I know one thing I wouldn’t touch it while the Glazers are there but I’m not a millionaire investor, I do have morals though.

My point is if Radio Manchester don't correct that sort of nonsense then it spreads as people heard it on the radio.

My gut feeling is the Glazers will be sold up and gone before this project starts.

Sadly they'll leave the current debt behind for the new ownership and they'll just end up wrapping it in with the stadium debts.

The way you presented it in your post was people were being serious about public money building the stadium rather than tongue in cheek.

BBC stations should hold themselves to a higher standard than TalkSh*te ;)

I'm amazed people still listen to that the ads every 2 minutes are enough to drive you mad.

People were being serious about public money being spent on the stadium ffs can you read or is this you wanting the last word on every subject as usual?
I found the City fan losing his shit and saying he wouldn’t be paying his council tax really funny I’m not sure which bit is confusing you.

and when pressed about where the money is coming from to the presenters they said its unclear which is true there are NO investors so far, thats why people are jumping to conclusions I assume? because I cant read minds, you probably can though.

You’ve said public money being used for the stadium wouldn’t sit well with you. The club and government are on record saying public money will not be spent on the stadium. All I wanted to do was make that clear.

The radio station should have also made that clear as well.

so no I’m not reading minds I’m reading the actual reports or listening to what is being said.

The stadium will be funded through private investment.

I’m not going to make it personal happy to take that to a private chat if you’ve got a problem with me.
