You would imagine he’s got a great chance of starting the season at RB/LB with Shaw being ruled out for a few games.

I would say he’s more comfortable than Dalot, so Mazraoui for me. We definitely lose something on the right when Dalot isn’t there.

Dalot's best position is on the right, so he has to stay there, at least whilst our fullback options are limited. Maz can hopefully tie down the left side.

I think Mazraoui will be the back up on both sides this season.

With it being his first game if he's fit I think they might start him at right back just to help him feel more comfortable on his debut and we know Dalot can do a decent job at left back but over time I can see them switching.

If he isn't fit then I guess they'll start Martinez at left back.

We don't want people just doing 'a job' though. We want to keep things as strong as possible and not weaken both wings because of one problem to solve.

Dalot on the right, Maz on the left. 100%.

He isn’t a left back either both of them are right backs.

Whoever does that job while Shaw/Malacia are injured is going to be playing out of position to help the team.

Mazraoui can play left-back as well, it's stated in many news articles that I've read, and Ashworth's recent statement backs this up. In his last 50 matches he's started 33 at right-back and 15 at left-back. These stats seem to differ slightly depending where you check, but he has a good amount of starts on the left side anywhere you look. His average ratings are a bit higher on the right though, but only slightly.

I think the whole point in him being signed was to help solve the Shaw and Dalot problem - providing cover for the always broken Shaw and allowing Dalot to play in his preferred postion. It makes very good sense.

I hope we haven't signed a right footed player to play as LB.

I assumed his main role was to cover RB.

As for during this LB crisis they need to buy or loan somebody, and Dalot must play there in the mean time. I don't think starting this guy out of his favourite position would be a good start, or at least potentially.

He's very both footed, playing there won't be a problem.

I don't think he's meant to be our main man on either side, just provide cover for when people are out injured or needing a rest - to begin with at least. It's up to him to showcase why he should be a starter and put ETH/INEOS off buying another LB next year.

We're done with defenders, unless we get sales, even then I think we'd opt to try and get Branthwaite as the priority. We won't be buying/loaning any LB.

He was signed to replace AWB he'll be competition at right back for Dalot but like Dalot he can also do a job as a left back.

He plays at left back for Morocco because they have Hakimi at right back in club football from the sources I found he's rarely used as a left back. Bayern did use him as a left winger in some games. He has the exact same problem Dalot does which is he has to come inside meaning he doesn't give the left winger the overlap that Shaw provides.

I wonder if it's more likely we will see Martinez at left back with De Ligt coming in at centre back alongside Maguire.

I'm not going to keep repeating myself. :)

Dalot can also play on either side of the defence it doesn't mean he will.

If the left backs are fit these two won't be playing at left back.

PL: Manchester United 1-0 Fulham - 16th August

Solid debut

Impressive debut. Fair to say his quality on the ball is a significant upgrade over Wan Bissaka.

Thought he was very impressive. Definitely an upgrade on AWB in terms of being an all rounder.

Premier League: Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 Manchester United - 24th August 2024

First assist. Another decent outing.

Yeah the question now is when the left backs are fit will Dalot lose his spot?

The level of ability on the ball has gone up massively with the new signings.

I think I prefer Maz to Dalot.

Tough decision. Although I doubt it will be one he needs to make anytime soon

Yet to really see Maz tested defensively.

Think it’s positive that both can play the same way in possession so we don’t need to change the way we play if one drops out.

I don’t think Dalot is as good at left back, Shaw is too injury prone now so it’s going to be an issue for a while.

The signs are really promising with Maz, he is a serious upgrade on AWB. I think overall Dalot has probably done enough to nail the first choice spot, however there is plenty of games to go around so sure they will be rotated once we get some left backs back!

I think if Maz is still playing well when the left backs return I think it’s his spot but it’s a tough spot to play so no reason they can’t rotate between the league games and midweek games.
