Next manager

Ruud wants to leave? Wow so it really will be all change for United. I guess the new manager would want his own team anyway.

Ruud doesn’t currently want to be a manager he has said that since he returned.

Its why he took this role rather than the Burnley offer.

He might decide to stay if the new manager wants to keep him and he wants to work with him.

there has been a fair bit of specualtion on the radio whether his system would work in the prem league

Might as well give it a try, nothing else has worked.

Think it's a huge risk because if he's going to set the first team up to play 3-4-3 then the academy sides should be setup to play 3-4-3.

If we've built a squad for 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 then we shouldn't be appointing a manager who doesn't want to play that style.

you could say buying 2 CB and Ugarte maybe they had a mind on this

Yoro de light martinez

Ugarte Mainoo

Dalot Shaw

Bruno Hojlund Rashford

Not saying these are the players, but you get the idea.

although I think I read Dalot has only 8 assists in his united career

United have defensive frailties that have been there for over a year now. You scored late vs Chelsea last season yet still lost. You scored late vs Brentford last season yet still drew. So no I don’t think you can say with confidence those open goal misses would have led to wins without doubt.

We are a different team defensively this season to last and set up differently. Have you watched us this season?

The mental frailties are still there when we concede first but we haven't been having the same number of shots on our goal or the same collapses as last season.

We've been a much better side this season than last we have improved it does genuinely lead me to wonder if you've watched if you don't see the difference and a lot like you're just basing it on results and not the performances unfortunately our main striker was injured to start the season and we've missed countless chances.

And of course us taking the lead in games would make a big difference you yourself must know goals change games? They'd be forced to come at us and again you yourself know United are a much better side when teams come at us and open up the space behind them for Bruno to play those balls in to Rashford and Garnacho.

Our Xg against is 18 we’ve only let in 11

Palace missed a couple of really good chances against us.

Southampton missed a pen at 0-0

Not saying XG is the be all and end all but it shows we’ve missed good chances but so have our opponents

As i said I've only counted the missed open goals. Not good saves made by the opposition keeper.

Think De Ligt was more a panic buy when Yoro got injured than a plan of any sort. They clearly didn't plan on getting Amorim. They'd just extended ETH contract and you're given them far too much credit.

The defence would concede when our forwards and the midfield cannot keep possession. How I wish they had kept Ralf as the DOF instead of getting rid not him at the end. His Austria side seems to be doing fairly well compared to the players he has.

Just looks messy and confused to me your way of playing should be set on day 1 with all these new directors and everything starts building towards that.

If the club were looking to move towards a back 3 system then surely you tell ETH he has to play a back 3 this season if he wants to stay and have his new deal. By giving him that deal surely they were planning the squad for his 4-2-3-1 system and the signings on paper support a 4-2-3-1.

I can see how you make it work with these players but on paper a 3-4-3 certainly doesn't suit Bruno and they've just given him a big money long term contract. I'd have big questions over where Mainoo fits in it as well.

Feels like a big change to make to a club the size of Utd if he comes and it will need to work quickly because we are not used to watching a side play with a back 3 and traditionally it's seen as a more cautious way of playing.

Yeah the Amorim appointment appears to make zero sense if he's fixed on this 3-4-3 formation.

the new bruno deal made zero sense

I cant see him changing the formation that brought him success, that would be crazy, employing him on that basis

Maybe you have been a much better side. I’ve seen you play on a handful of occasions and I’ll be honest I don’t see a huge change but if you say you have been better then I’ll believe that you have. But then the bar was rather low so you couldn’t really have been much worse.

That's the bit that worries me.

We seem to be changing something that should be set in stone.

If he's going to come we will be playing with a back 3 which surely means that's going to be our long term plan.

This is why Liverpool eventually turned him down. He didn't fit their future plan with the back 3 formation.

It's another massive change and again we won't be thinking of our future plans because the directors seem to think 3 days in front instead of 3 years.

maybe its maguire all over again, get him because city are after him......

Yep that's why it has to be a worry if we've going to a back 3 we have to be willing to stick with that for 10 years because if it doesn't work we can't just rip it up and start again once we've built a squad for a back 3.

Maybe this was their big plan all along (I'm not convinced) but if they are going for this guy then it's a huge change that surely should have been made in the summer.

All very odd and doesn't fill you with a lot of confidence.

if you're a pro footballer, how hard do you think it is to pick up a new system.

Just seen a story he'll be in before Sundays game vs Chelsea

Do managers build a top career being wedded to one system?

Can’t think of many who’ve flipped between a back 3 and a back 4 while maintaining success.

You do have to evolve with the times but managers tend to stick with what got them success.

It’s what makes the greats the greats as they adapt to stay relevant. Fergie was a 4-4-2 guy but he accepted in Europe he had to play the extra midfielder and go 4-3-3

Pep I think has realised the more relaxed tackling rules means his teams have to be a lot more physically robust than the Barca side he had.

Four in the middle offers protection for the back three if it’s done properly, they’ve moved in fast for Amorim so it was obviously planned for a while.
The previous board were useless let’s hope this one has done it’s homework, being the United manager has gradually become more and more difficult to do and I blame the lack of planning way back to when Fergie retired, you can’t replace someone without a proper plan after 26 years. And it’s been a roller coaster ever since.

Quite possibly the worst post the forum has seen.

They wanted Amorin for a while but extended ETH contract 4 months ago?

The new board have been a shit show. You do realise this is all now a panic and not a plan?

You genuinely believe they thought we would extend ETH contract pay him £10m more to leave and get Amorim in?

Please tell me that post was a joke.

I'm torn

Be great to have a legend on the side like ZZ or Xavi. But I don't think they'd be right. But would be mental to see them there. Players I really admired.

Would also love to see Carrick or Ole or even Ruud do well, an ex player.

Since the rumour of Terzic I am quite intrigued by him.

Nagelsmann would be my pick, but I don't think they could get him
Wonder if we even enquired about Nagelsmann. My feeling is that either it was too much to buy him out of Germany contract or simply told INEOS he had no intention of leaving until after World Cup.

This post is unnecessarily confrontational.

No the only joke on this forum is your endless bullshit, you said United were playing better this season..are you on crack?
Scouse 7-0, Spurs 3-0 etc etc
But to help you out, they obviously took a risk with extending ETH`s contract and then realised it was a bad idea..THEN in recent weeks moved for Amorim, but in your haste to jump in with both feet you`ve made yourself look a clown again.
Here`s some advice ETH is history, he failed so stop crying and get used to it.

Doesn't currently sound like he will be here for Chelsea.

Going to take charge of Sportings game on Friday apparently

I guess it’s a lot to think about for him, I don’t know anything about his personal situation but if he’s got a young family, an upheaval so early could be disruptive.

Hopefully he does say yes and he can be in charge fairly soon.

I wonder if Ruud will make any drastic changes for the next couple of games. I suspect he’ll keep the same formation but I actually think it would be nice to see a couple of youngsters tonight just to see what they are all about and if they can step up.

I don't think Utd would have made contact with Sporting without knowing for sure that he wanted the job and was willing to come.

Looks to me like he just wants to do the right thing and give Sporting a bit of time to sort out his replacement.

Always thought Ruud would be in at least until the Chelsea game but it may be that he takes the games up to the international break.
