Next manager

Now there is a manager who shouldnt have been sacked.

Loads of people on here backing ETH, wanted Ole out, the main reason being, he hadn't managed a big club.

Ole and ETH had very similar endings. Ole had won 1 of his last 7. Was already 12 off the leaders had lost 5-0 to Liverpool in the previous few weeks and lost 4-1 to Watford in a game where we were completely outplayed.

Ole deserved more time to turn it around but there is no argument for him remaining and ETH being sacked. One problem Ole did have is he showed he didn't have the tactical nous in big cup games. We went 3 years without a trophy, lost 4 semi finals and a final.

Under SAF United used to win games in injury time, under ETH we lost games in injury time.

Love to think the recent good/very good away performances @Southampton, Palace, Porto, Villa, Fenerbahce had debunked the nonsensical theory that we don't play with any obvious style/shape, and the Manager is clueless and some of the players weren't trying for EtH, for the more intelligent at least.

So what else can we have a go at, erm League position, whilst the current 14th isn't great we do well to remember the great Man SAF finished his 3rd season 11th, and 13th in his 4th after finishing 2nd in his first season, and that was at a time when there were only 2 decent sides

Wins by you time in management.

The long term building isn’t part of his role now and it won’t be for the next guy either.

The long term projects are being managed at a higher level.

Like every top club you’ll be judged by your results.

I think there were some signs of progress from how we ended last season but nowhere near enough to make you think we have to keep going with this guy.

Eventually there’s just to many L’s on the results and it’s game over.

You must feel that maybe behind the scenes things have really turned on him. Players have lost confidence in the process maybe and at that point you just can’t kick it down the road.

I would hope they’ve got the plan B ready to go I do not want a season under an interim especially one who’s been working under the previous manager.

Xavi 9/4
Ruud 5/2
Gareth 11/2
Nagellsman 6/1
Amorim 6/1
Frank 8/1
Potter 12/1
McKenna 16/1
Zidane 16/1
Allegri 18/1

They had Balague on the radio today, not sure if he just made this up, but he said Amorin is top of Citys list for next year.

He didn't think Xavi or Zidane, on the basis ZZ is after the French job and why would United pick Xavi who has little experience. Although he did say ZZ has no interest in learning English. But I think he has been having lessons.
He thought its a season too early for McKenna, Potter isn't glamourous enough.

He thought it's Ruuds to lose.

red tops  saying Terzic is the favourite internally

just realised, Carrick not been linked.

Who have the bookies got as favourite?

Whoever people are putting money on because that is how it works.

So who are peoples preference for the job?
I'm torn

Be great to have a legend on the side like ZZ or Xavi. But I don't think they'd be right. But would be mental to see them there. Players I really admired.

Would also love to see Carrick or Ole or even Ruud do well, an ex player.

Since the rumour of Terzic I am quite intrigued by him.

Nagelsmann would be my pick, but I don't think they could get him

Amorim seems to be the hot young thing go get him I say.

If the likes of Nagelsmann can’t be tempted out of his current job.

I think he’s one of the best upcoming managers with a fast growing reputation - probably along with Inzaghi.

Good to see things moving quickly because we need to get the new man in asap.

I don’t think Ballague has his finger on the pulse at Utd he has never really covered us and I’ve always seen him as a bit of a blagger to be honest. He’s always had good contacts at Barcelona and previously at Liverpool when Rafa was there and they had a lot of Spanish players.

No one this morning would have any clue where Utd were looking because those who know would not be talking to the press.

The agent of a serious candidate would know to keep it quiet as well

Amorim has used 3-4-3 at Sporting.

Will it be a new manager and a new system.

I’m not a massive fan of the back 3 think all the best sides play with a back 4 for a reason.

Inter are the only top side currently who seem to be pulling it off while also playing attacking football.

Yeah not a fan of the 3-4-3 but also not totally against it if utilised well. Not sure he has the players here though to make it work effectively. Might need a couple of transfer windows to really identify the right players.

He gets 2 and then the Amorim out crowd will be on top of him. We will start to slide because their negativity will again be toxic and he'll be sacked a year later before ever really getting a chance because no one grasp it takes longer than 2 years to set up.

Come off it, ETH had a fair chance, most clubs would have pumped him last season. You expect to move forward not backward

Get over it

So it sounds like they're not even going to entertain Ruud

The reports in the summer were Liverpool wanted him to switch to a 4-3-3 system and he said no.

Utd must be willing to adopt his system as that seems like a deal breaker for him

Or he could be the manager we’ve been waiting for! You never know with an appointment but he is an intriguing and exciting prospect.

Most clubs wouldn't have got rid last season. Hence Arsenal didn't with Arteta and now they're the club we are chasing. The best teams in the league either have long term managers or have just lost one. It's very rare for successful sides in England to have short term managers.

Remember the Arsenal fan base wanted Arteta out. The Liverpool fans wanted Klopp out.

Im over it just disgusted by our fanbase and embarrassed for em. But ill get behind the next man and watch as they hound him out too. The same people that craved the change. It's pathetic.

How long do you think you give it before turning? 10 months?

You criticised those that wanted rid of Ole and turned in to the same fan.

And 2 years isnt enough. How long did Ragnick say it would take? How long did it take Arteta? Fergie?

I don’t think the fans ‘hounded’ out ETH at all. There was clearly discontent in our fanbase but generally the match going fans are very supportive of the managers even in some rotten times. There was the odd boo but that’s to be expected.

It’s a results business at the end of the day and he wasn’t getting them and while there have been shoots of recovery it just wasn’t enough. I am very much give the managers a chance type of fan, however there does come to a point where it’s probably time for a change.

Where your wing backs stand?

Ultimately I wondered if you are still playing wing backs.

So it's the same as Tuchel. A 5-2-2-1

We don't have the players to play it. Where do Rashford and Garnacho fit?

And it'll be the same in 2 years. I said this 3 years ago when Ole went and 3 years before that when Jose did.

Fans are too fickle and we won't progress until their attitude changes. The fans, players and board are our biggest issue not the manager.

This social media generation of fans would have had Fergie sacked before he won a single title.

Literally every report says it was time for him to go.

Amorim is exciting, but a huge risk having only managed in Portugal and us not really having the players for 343.

How does Bruno fit into that

3-4-3 you can still play wide forwards England did it with Rashford and Sterling for a bit. Could easily do it with Rashford/Garnacho. I have felt all season we might be better using only 1 of them rather than both as they do limit creativity with the way they play.

Chelsea often used Mount as one of the wide players under Tuchel under Conte it was Hazard and Pedro.

The two in midfield will need to be enforcers though.

Unless Bruno is going wide as part of the front 3 it looks like bad news for Bruno and Eriksen and maybe even Mainoo.

I totally agree some fans are very fickle but generally I think there is a good proportion that are patient. Hopefully this next appointment can be the start of the good times returning.

Out of curiosity how long would you have given ETH and what would have the tipping point for getting rid of him?
