Newcastle Discussion 2021/22

Yeah he was close to Bobby Robson think they worked together at Barca when Mourinho started as a coach.

Jose's lost a few games recently at Roma so wouldn't rule out him rocking up the man certainly knows how to sniff out a pay cheque from rich owners.

You do wonder how long they stick with Bruce not sure changing manager will solve the problem of them having a championship level squad apart from Wilson up front (who's always injured) and Saint-Maximan the rest of them are nowhere near prem quality. I don't even think that squad would get promoted out of the Championship and until January there's nothing they can do about it.

Would be hilarious if they went down.

I think Bruce will be actually relieved when he gets the sack. Obviously it would be disappointing but he is a dead man walking and it’s only a matter of time.

They need to do some big business in January because they are absolutely awful. The adrenaline and atmosphere got them 10 minutes of good play but after that Spurs were so comfortable.

100% he's just waiting for his pay off and I don't really blame him.

He's been dealt a bad hand by Ashley barely had any money to spend since he came in the squad really is terrible and lacking in quality.

Think in January they just need to get players in who can get them up to mid table next season then add again and add again and add again it'll take years to put together a squad thats capable of challenging the top 4 and it might take a few managers in the process.

I think they might try and get Rafa but at the end of the season but now they need someone who can get them up the table fast which might actually be Bruce but his relationship with the fans is so bad now that things probably have to change.

Clubs have voted to temporarily block any owner linked sponsorship deals the move was voted in 18 teams only City and Newcastle voted against it.

Who should Newcastle appoint when they inevitably sack Bruce?

Do they go for one of the British relegation specialists offer them a short term deal with a huge bonus for keeping them up? Hodgson and Hughes are the ones that come to mind as both are out of work. They can’t go to Allardyce as he wasn’t exactly well liked by the fans.

How funny would it be if they got Pardew back in.

Do they just back Bruce and spend some money to get in better players in January then sack him at the end of the season.

They should maybe hang fire, if the more entitled among us get their way Ole will be available shortly.

His CV suggests he’s not got the tools for a relegation fight.

It’s odd because if there was some weird scenario where Ole was sacked tomorrow and every other prem club was looking for a new manager I doubt Ole’s phone rings once. He’s Utd or nothing.

I was joking mate.

But I do think he'll get a decent club when he leaves United if he decides he doesn't want to go straight back to Norway as the progress he's made at United(probably the toughest Gig in Europe because of SAF) each year won't have gone unnoticed.

I'd fancy Ole for the Leicester Brighton job. Think it would be a swap move.

I don't think Ole will have any greater success than his second place with United. The rest of his career, if he stays in the PL, will be no better than that of Bruce or Hughes.

I just don't think other clubs will go for him certainly not the top ones they'll look at the success and then look at the money spent and most clubs aren't going to be able to fund his project the way Utd have and they certainly aren't going to give him the time we have as fans.

His only real shot at decent jobs after leaving Utd is if he delivers on the targets for this season.

So Steve Bruce sacked today. There was nothing more inevitable in the world. Paulo Fonseca in talks apparently to become their next manager.

Bruce immediately spoke to the Telegraph and sounds like he has been inundated with abuse there so he is well out of it. They are on track to become a soulless club anyway.

Hopefully he got a massive pay out as he deserves it for the way he's been treated up there sit back and enjoy your retirement Steve you've been a hell of a servant to the game. 800 odd games as a player and 1000 games as a manager and you even stopped to say hello to me outside Wembley when I was just a kid. Everything you read about the guy is he's an absolute gent and good to see Saint-Maximan tweet straight away thanking him.

As for Fonseca looked to be Spurs bound his Roma side were pretty fund to watch last season I know we hammered them 6-2 but from memory they were missing a lot of players through injury in that game so didn't really give a true account of themselves.

You can only polish a turd so much they've got a squad full of at best championship players and by the sound of it a lot of them have attitudes that stink they are going to need to bring in a lot of players in January to avoid relegation.

Next one of you we catch with a tea towel on your head is getting stoned in the centre circle.

I love the nobody was offended line I mean I think they'd be within their rights to be offended by a load of drunk blokes with tea towels tied around their heads no matter what the intention.

Unai Emery now seems to be the front runner for the job.

Seems mad that he’d leave a club that’s in the champions league for one that’s heading towards the championship.

Think he’d actually be a good appointment for them they need someone that can coach them into shape fast but really they need some banging January signings that slot straight in as that squad is awful.

Not surprised to be honest it's career suicide.

They basically need a short term fix to keep them up then go in the summer when surely they'll be spending big to try and move up to a mid table side? I'm pretty convinced Rafa will be their manager next season don't see him doing more than a year at Everton.

Will they be going down that old road of the British fire fighters?

Allardyce - burned bridges with him already fans might actually hate him more than Bruce.
Hodgson - one last pay day before retirement could actually be a decent 18 month appointment if he's still interested in working.
Hughes - gone off the radar a bit is he still interested in management or has he moved on?
Howe - not really part of this clan anymore.

I'd love to see the look on Newcastle fans faces if they got Pardew back.

I really would love to see them get relegated it would be absolutely hilarious.

Everything happened so fast they've arrived with absolutely no plan it's not even that clear who's calling the shots.

I get why they had to sack Bruce his relationship with the fans was to toxic but to sack him without having the next guy lined up is mad given the guy that's replaced him is his old first team coach but careful what you wish for as these players just aren't good enough.

Maybe they'll give it Giggsy he seems to be on the same page as the owners when it comes to womens rights (allegedly!).

Eddie Howe now appears to be the next man up!
Not a bad choice at all. He gets a bad rap from a few who says he spent loads of money at Bournemouth and still got relegated. However, he took them up to the Premier League from League Two and established them as a pretty good team. Also from my recollection in their relegation season they lost a couple of their main strikers to injuries.

I think he’s the ideal man for Newcastle at this stage.

I liked Howe, he's a good manager, can't believe he's been out of work for this long.

Newcastle are going down whatever though aren't they?

I don't see them going down. They'll pay a few good but not excellent footballers way over the top in January.

Lingard for example. And these players will keep them up.

You say that but they already 6 points adrift of 17th - I know it’s only early on but there is two months until January. Who knows how many points they could be adrift as they are truly awful right now!

They've got two massive games in Norwich and Burnley coming up. They've gotta take 4 points from those. Lose both and they're in trouble but I just don't see their owners wasting a year they'll be able to spend £200m on just above average players to get em out if this.

I know it's irrelevant, and probably not PC, but doesn't Staveley look a bit terrifying? like the Joker with no makeup?

Will players join a club on the brink of relegation? How much money will you have to chuck at them to get them to do that?

Take Lingard for example he knows he could join West Ham in the summer and play for a top half team probably on the money he's on at Utd say £100k a week. What mark up would you apply to Newcastle? I'll come but I want £150k a week no relegation cut to my wages and a 5 year deal.

In January they probably need 5 or 6 premier league standard players that they can plug in. They need a keeper a back 4 and a couple of midfielders and you'll need all that to gel together.

Currently Burnley, Newcastle and Norwich are the bottom 3 above them are Leeds, Watford, Villa, Southampton.

Of those 4 clubs above them I think Watford could be in trouble the other 3 I think will have enough to stay out of trouble as could Burnley.

Strange choice, but they obviously weren't prepared to wait for Ole to become available.

Don't think they'd go down whoever they appointed.

I so hope that you are wrong

Not confirmed yet but reported as being close but we heard those reports on the last two guys.

Howe did a great job bringing Bournemouth up through the leagues but where he really struggled was when it came time to rebuild the team that got promoted they spent the money really badly. They basically signed players who were championship quality for premiership fees he had a couple of big money flops in Ibe and Solanke.

It's good to see him back in the game but not sure if he's the man to dig you out of a relation scrap or the man you want to trust with a huge budget.

Nailed on that they sign Josh King from Everton.

Reports that they're still in the hunt for a director of football the current favourite is Michael Emenalo who worked for a long time at Chelsea and more recently at Monaco.

Was a bit surprised they didn't come with someone to take on this role straight away kind of felt like the takeover caught them on the backfoot a bit the approval from the league came quicker than they maybe expected so they weren't able to walk in with their team ready. I doubt there was much of an existing team to takeover you get the impression Ashley ran things on a shoestring at that club.
