I don't think anyone is saying De Ligt has been a disaster of a signing it's way to early for that.

He's just had a couple of dodgy games.

At the moment De Ligt and Martinez are struggling as a partnership they don't seem to be working together to help each other.
 
I think that's the issue isn't it? The coach is having real problems getting any players to work well together. We look disjointed all over the picth, and is the reason I'm saying recently that it's so hard to judge these players performances.

Even Martinez is starting to look dodgy and we kind of already know he isn't. He's a good player.
 
granted, but what I said was, he gets unfair criticism compared to others, who seem to get a bit of a free pass to be utter shit.
 
His excuse last season was his players were injured.

those players are fit, and he's not picking them.
 
He's very strange when it comes to the back four.

I think the only way you get a good defence is by picking the same players there every week, and he rarely does that.

The problem your defense has is the constant changes and Dalot at LB where he’s really struggling.

Whomever Ten Hag wants to be his starting pair he needs to go with them and give them time. The constant changes are not going to help any player settle.
 
It's a new partnership it'll take a bit of time.

We don't really know if this was his planned first choice partnership because of the injury to Yoro.

I suspect it'll be De Ligt and Martinez again vs Brentford but they do need to start improving, they currently don't seem to read what the other one does.
 
We don't really know what happens in that scenario the reporting through the summer did seem like they were always keen to bring in both.

If Yoro was fit it would be interesting to see if he'd be the one being bedded in with either De Ligt or Martinez.

I still think when he's fit we might see Martinez move to left back.

God yeah you signed Yoro didn’t you! He’s almost a forgotten man as he’s not being talked about. I suspect yeah De Ligt wouldn’t have been signed unless you sold Maguire.

I think De Ligt was signed in the expectation that both Maguire and Lindelof will be gone in the next 12 months.

And they might well be… Though right now I think Maguire and De Ligt are on a pretty even keel and it’ll be interesting to see how that battle develops.
 
I reckon eventually it’ll be Yoro and de Ligt as the partnership. I think that partnership could dovetail quite nicely in a similar way to the Vidic/Rio one.
 
I like yoro, he's a good young player, but I worry our fans are expecting too much.
He's nowhere near the finished article
 
He needs to play both Ugarte and Cas in midfield for a few games to get things sorted out. Drop Bruno if it is so. Actually Eriksen has been playing the best of the midfield trio.

Interesting so you think De Ligt over Martinez then? I know Martinez has been out of form for you this season so far but I’d still say he’s a better player than De Ligt? Certainly with the ball.
 
When Martinez isn't running around trying to injure himself with crazy challenges on bigger players he's the better more intelligent player for me.
 
I'm not sure we'll see a number 1 partnership established there's so many games now, you can't really expect to play the same pair every week.

I reckon this season Yoro will be eased in slowly once he's fit, we have paid a big fee for him but he's still just a kid.

Arsenal signed Saliba when he was a teenager but he spent 2 seasons back on loan in France before he became a regularly. I don't think we will be doing that with Yoro but I can see him being a bit in and out this season.

Martinez is no doubt the better player with the ball but there is also a case of having de Ligt over him because of his physicality and dominance in both boxes. With Martinez playing and Mainoo and Ugarte in midfield, we are quite a small team and I do fear we will be bullied at set pieces. Especially as Casemiro is a bit part player right now and we lost McT in the midfield.

I do agree with jsp though that there may not be a number one partnership with so many games this season. However, I do think eventually a big game partnership will be established where it’s guaranteed they will play in the bigger games.

Seems to be settling in well
 
Hopefully wasn’t an injury just protecting De Ligt a bit.

Steady again last night played some nice long ball out to the wing.
