Marcus Rashford | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

His was work rate/effort in the second half was the best I’ve seen in a long time. I was surprised he was replaced and not Garnacho.
I think that’s another indictment of Ten Hag. For months you guys wanted Rashford dropped or at least subbed in games where he was annoymous but Ten Hag wouldn’t. Now he’s found a bit of form and now Ten Hag starts dropping and subbing him.

It's all narrative with Rashford, the point is we've had 3 wingers in ok form so far this season so he's picking 2 out of the 3 every game to keep them all fresh and not burn them out, for me that's good management.

Rashford scored 3 goals in 2 games against the worst side in the league and 2 against a league one side in the cup. He then hasn't scored in his next 3 games.

Garnacho in those games also had the exact same record.

Europa League: Porto 3-3 Manchester United - 3rd October 2024

Any news on the injury he sustained?

Ten Hag has said Rashford did not sustain an injury. Could there have been a fallout at half time?

Certainly seems an odd I didn’t see the interview by rotation is he saying Rashford wasn’t fit to play the full 90?

Maybe but it didn’t seem to be a major problem first half the second goal he was back he just didn’t get out to put pressure on the cross.

Garnacho wasn’t noticeable better defensively second half.

I would say all our wingers do not track back, which is a big problem. You see throughout the team where players do not help each other out.

Rashford not injured ETH took him off to rest for the Villa game.
At half time? he’s losing the plot.

There are a lot of games this season and playing twice most weeks, the manager has to manage these players smartly.

I don’t think it’s the wingers job to track back all the time. Rashford does do it but you can see he doesn’t enjoy the defensive side of it he does it with zero aggression just doesn’t seem to be in his nature. He’s a bit nice

He doesn’t strike me as someone who enjoys going into tackles and making blocks.

We cannot afford the wingers not to track back, and the successful teams will demand it. You have to help your fullback. I'm not sure Pep would accept it, look how much work his players get through.

Basically yes top players when they go on to the pitch are ruthless, I don't think that's he's like that he like to do the attacking bit but when it's time to be a bit nasty and hit someone hard and intimidate them a bit it's just not in his nature.

Defensively in football you have to be aggressive he'll run back and get into a position but he isn't engaging the opponent any trying to take the ball off him.

I don't think it's about working back it's about working hard in the press as an attacking player then you need to drop back into a shape and fill a defensive position when the press hasn't worked. That's what Pep wants his players to do.

His attacking players aren't turning the ball over constantly though so the runs back might only be a few times a game at Utd you'll be end to end because the manager wants you to push right forward for attacks but then when the ball is lost you've got a long way to get back.

Pep's teams stay compact if the attack is high the defence is high if the defence is deep the attack is deep, Utd with the ball get so stretched out that when we lose the ball there's massive gaps between the attack and defence.

He was lucky not to be sent off for two yellow cards. For the challenge he escaped a second yellow card he gave the impression of someone who is uninterested or doesn’t care.

I think he cares and makes lots of effort.

He gives the vibe of someone who is expecting better from his coach, knows they should be much better. Not having another 8th finish because it's a process. And needing time because all the signings are young.

Buy some players who are ready ffs.

Had enough of ETH excuses

Lol. Not defending the manager here, but you take a post about Rashford being poor and make it all about ETH. Unfair.

These are top pros, paid a disgusting amount of money. No matter what, they should be out there busting a gut and giving everything they'be got.

How do you explain you never see him smiling any more?

And I think he is one of the few putting the effort in

So he's unhappy; he's paid a fortune to be the best footballer he can. Just do your job.

Of course I'd prefer all our players to be happy and performing well, but I'm not going to let them get away with not giving everything.

It's not impossible to give 100% or not commit stupid, lazy fouls.

And as I stated, this is not a defence of the manager.
When you consider the possible mental state of some of the players after having to put up with the coach for so long it becomes very obvious that they might not be able to give that level of commitment any more.

Our players are simply not as bad as they are being made to look right now.

Sancho is a good example of this - he moved away from ETH and his crippling drivel and look at what has happened. Sancho is providing assists instantly at Chelsea.

Like clockwork he’s posting his training video on social media during the international break

Played well. Not for the first time this season his work rate has been good. More of the same please.
