Marcus Rashford | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

he does seem to be trying, but things just keep bumping off his shins

Just lacking any real confidence at the moment. Last season that one where he went through on goal would have been nestling in the goal.

Just needs something to break for him but I am not averse to getting him out of the side in place of Garnacho. I don’t think that will be against City though.

Just isn't happening for him at the moment and he probably shouldn't be playing but Garnacho is also out of form and Sancho is out of the picture so there's not exactly competition for his starting spot.

He will start vs City the bigger games probably suit him as there will be more space in behind to attack.

Rashford was frequently 20 yards away from the man who he was supposed to be marking. He’s lazy and appears entitled. I’ve had enough.

As I posted on another thread, he is not committed to the challenge, he does not appear to want it enough. Starting to do a good impression of Sancho.

If Sancho could behave like a proper professional he might have had his spot in the team ahead of Rashford.

He has had enough loyalty from the manager he should be sat out of the next few games and see if that gets a reaction from him.

Rashford definitely needs to be dropped. The harder he appears to try, the worse it gets. He constantly makes the wrong decision and his confidence is rock bottom. My worry is who takes his place as nobody seems to be standing out at present.

This is the problem.

If you drop Rashford who do you play instead?

That is the big problem, the options off the bench are not any better or not consistent enough like Garnacho.

Do you maybe get Martial out there for a game or two?

I mean that is seriously desperate isn't it, he hasn't played out wide in about 6 years and you can see when he comes on he's afraid to sprint in case he gets injured. I don't want Martial anywhere near the club let alone the starting XI he's another problem player sucking up space on the wage bill, seeing out his contract.

There's also the issue that Garnacho is probably about to be hit with a 3 game ban over that social media post.

Martial needs to replace Hojlund, Garncacho on the left, Rashford on the right.

But none of these palyers are showing their true form. Something is going on, this will end with ETH going, and freebie Potter coming in for 6 months

Guess that’s the problem overall with our squad. You cannot really rely on the starters but what’s below them you cannot rely on them either.

A lot of our attacking players just don’t have the personality for a fight. Bruno and Antony like a fight but usually when our chips are down and we’ve already lost.

Yep aside from Hojlund who I think just keeps plugging away the rest all react to tough periods in games badly.

Anthony chooses violence
Rashford hides away
Bruno starts throwing his arms around and moaning at the ref.

I think if Rashford is going to be dropped you just put Garnacho in for 2-3 games and see how he does.

One of the worst decisions United made in recent times was giving Rashford a new contract. When he’s good he’s good, when he’s bad he’s atrocious and lacks effort.

There is obviously a good player in there who can do some pretty great things but his lack of consistency is alarming.

I said at the end of last season that his real battle was to replicate his form from last season to this - to date he is failing miserably.

I wouldn’t ever want to say someone isn’t trying because that probably isn’t the case but his lack of desire can be very evident at times.

He needs dropping and Garnacho to get a few games starting.

I don't get all the hate on here. Someone saying we should not have given him a deal, do me a favour. Especially when you all rave over Hojlund who has been as effective. Absolutely no logic.

Literally everybody in team is underperforming. Not one player has above a 6 so far.

Actually Lindelof, playing at LB deserves a 7 or 8

It's down to the manager, if it was one player we could have a pop, but a squad of 20 odd, it's the manager.

Yeah he was pretty dreadful again but a very cool penalty. Hope that can get some confidence flowing through his veins.

He’s dedicated his goal yesterday to his cousin who recently passed away.

Has to be dropped nowhere near good enough and if you can’t be arsed to do the running then sit on the bench until you can.

Feels like he just sulks like a baby when he’s played out on the right.

A joke of a performance. The least you can do is put 100% effort in but he couldn’t even manage that.

He thinks he's bigger than the team at the moment. I would sell him if we get good offer as he will never consistently hit 25+ goals per season, and his form is too inconsistent.

He's got a problem with manager I think.

Which is also unacceptable

Think it’s an attitude thing.

He sulks when he’s asked to play on the right, he’s done it under various managers now.

When his confidence drops so does his interest in the game he stops wanting the ball and therefore stops chasing it. He plays as an individual not for the team which is fine when you are scoring goals but when you aren’t it will be highlighted the best players dominate on both sides on the ball with and without.

The pundits are really going in on him this weekend and rightly so he’s got the big money deal that comes with responsibility to set the standards and example to the young players. He isn’t doing that and should be dropped.

Yep. Being low in confidence, in the middle of a goal drought from open play, or played out of your favoured position, should not stop you running and giving 100%.

If I was to sulk or take the huff every time the boss asked me to do something out of the ordinary, I wouldn't last long in the job. He gets paid a load of money and should at least put in the effort. I agree with J Cider get shot of him while we can

I do wonder if he's one of the players sulking about Sancho's treatment. If so, he needs to grow up, just like Jadon.

I don’t think the two are related.

i think he just has highs and lows he doesn’t have that 1 track mind that the very top players have where they seem to be able to take emotion and confidence out of their mind.

When he’s up and feeling it he plays like he’s 10ft tall and untouchable when he’s down he plays like a 5 year old could push him off the ball.

Even during the highs he was never one for scrapping and chasing back never been his thing but he’d at least be alive going forward so you could kind of justify it. When he’s low going forward he doesn’t want the ball and then you really start getting annoyed with the off field stuff.

i really felt like mentally he’d cracked it last season but this season it’s all fallen apart again and playing him through bad runs of form has never worked.

Pep and Klopp would not tolerate this.
