Marcus Rashford | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

Some papers were reporting that his car cost £700k. What the actual feck!?!

No one hurt. Bruno first on the scene checked Rashford was okay and waited with him until he was allowed to leave.

They don't just give Rolls Royce's away for nothing.

When he’s good, he’s good. When he’s bad, he’s bad. He’s in awful form and doesn’t warrant an automatic start.

He is not a player that will guarantee 25 goals a season. Far too inconsistent. It is difficult to think about benching him, as we have Galatasaray on Tuesday and then Brentford before the international break.

Always had in the back of my mind he would revert to type this season after a brilliant one last.

I think the truth of the matter is that we could easily replace him and be better for it. I really like the player he can be but if you’ve not got consistency then you are not a great player.

Hope he can prove the doubters wrong and improve because without his goals and contributions we will struggle to get anywhere this season.

I think it’s a case of highs and lows with him and it’s always been this way.

He is currently in a low but at some point he will click into form and smash in 15 in 20 games but it seems clear he can’t sustain that high level week in week out. That is the difference between the good players and the great ones.

It is a problem for him and the club he’s now on mega wages, he’s in a tough league and he’s in a team that relies on him to be the guy that makes the difference every week.

Far far too predictable, he needs to mix it up a bit, mind he should have been learning that at 15 not 25!

Needs benching, new contract or not.

The thing is even if Rashford suddenly finds form and goes on a scoring spree, you know you’re only a short time away from a few months of slump. He’s widely inconsistent and we need better than that from him.

What on earth was he thinking when he tried to square the ball to Bruno when one on one against the goalkeeper?

Think he is afraid to shoot as everyone has been calling him greedy. If he misses he thinks everyone will hammer him for not passing.

A poor decision the pass was never on he has to back himself to score.

I dunno, if was just him, maybe.

But it's the whole team. Something isn't right behind the scenes.

He's been playing for United long enough he should be able to blank that shit out.

Don't read blogs, don't have social media.

Just look at the games, awful performances, much worse than last season

Not sure he had the time and space to round the keeper he just needed to drill it past him once he looked up and saw the defender covering he should have set himself for the shot across the keeper.

If the keeper saves it the rebound could easily fall to Bruno.

It was a bad decision from a player who currently is making to many bad decisions.

When Rashford is on he’s a top player. When he’s off he’s not good at all. Most strikers tend to be streaky (though some modern players don’t seem to be). The problem is Rashfords streaks tend to last months not a few games. That’s both good and bad.

I don't think the very best are streaky that is what makes them the very best.

World Class = Top Quality + Consistency.

You deliver season after season which is what players like Haaland, Kane and Salah do. They might have a dip of 4 or 5 games every now and again but very quickly they get back to their best.

This has always been the concern with Rashford that he needed to sort out and @Mr C has said his off field life has changed he's a single lad again, there's stories that he's a regular in the casino so he's possibly not living the best life off the pitch. Settling down off the pitch can make a huge difference on the pitch it's why Fergie always wanted to see his younger players settle down get married and have kids because the family lifestyle is good for a player.

I think he's a top player off form, his off pitch life will be an issue, but with so many players off form, something is not right in the camp. Even their attitude and body language on the pitch is not the same as last season.

Think when you start getting bad results the pressure cranks up and that seems to impact the players.

I don't think it helps when managers keep playing out of form players in the hope that they get back in form.

I think last night Rashford was a little bit better than he'd been but he isn't playing well enough to justify his starting spot and they may be better off starting Garnacho at the weekend.

I would agree for the most part but even players like Rooney, Ruud and Ronaldo could go a few games without scoring. But Rashford goes weeks and months where his overall performances are pretty abysmal.

As I said in the rest of the post a dip in form for top players might be 4 or 5 games.

With Rashford the dips are much longer.

He clearly gets frustrated and I think he reaches points in games where he gives up. A guy like Rooney never did that he might be stinking the place out on his bad days but he’d keep demanding the ball and chasing every ball.

I think ETH now knows leaving him on once he’s reached that point isn’t worth it and he subs him off.

Rashford play is related to his mental health I feel. And something isn't right with him at the moment, whether that's to with united or non football stuff is anyone's guess.
But seeing as it's not just him, you could put two and two together

Would he benefit from a spell on the bench and utilised as an impact sun against tiring defences?

Top goal. Hopefully a confident booster.

I've noticed Bellingham for Madrid, when he supplies a goal he runs off and celebrates with the crowd on his own. Odd

Brilliant though

Lovely goal for Marcus, and Kane with a proper strikers goal

Missed a good chance second half and on another night could have walked away with 2 assists.

General play was poor struggling against sides who are sitting deep he thrives on that space in behind which was never really there for him last night.

I do think he misses having Shaw make that overlapping run. That helps him create space and the two of them seem to have a good understanding.

He will come good at some point this season but like all our attacking players they need to find some form.

I thought he was better yesterday. Needs to do more, but improvement

I can accept a player enduring a bad run of form, it happens to most, but the lack of effort and interest is completely unacceptable.
