Manuel Ugarte

At £70m you walk away. That's what they've spent on his replacement.

I wouldn't mind having a look at that Zubimendi.

Few reports we are in for him now. Has a £51m release clause.

I would prefer Zubimendi to Ugarte. I don't see why we should help PSG fund their purchase of Neves.

Good.

Utd have got to stick to their guns with their valuations.

I wonder if there will be a lot of deals done in the last week of the window where clubs finally drop prices to get players out the door.

Yeah if PSG are playing hardball then just move on. They may regret not accepting our valuation if it gets to the end of the window and no-one else has come in for him.

I don’t see how anyone is going to spend that sort of money on a player that isn’t in the selling clubs starting XI.

Yeah especially when they have just bought Neves for a similar fee. They need to have a word with themselves!

Hopefully we can make onto other targets quickly - wonder if de Jong is still for sale at Barca? :p

Think a lot of it is because of all the FFP stuff clubs can't just cut losses and sell players cheap because it really messes with their FFP numbers and ability to spend going forward.

PSG only have themselves to blame they massively over inflated the market with the Neymar deal back in 2017.

Did see a De Jong link the other day usual stuff they're desperate to sell him and offering him to everyone, he's on £600k a week and doesn't want to leave.

He'll still end up at United, let PSG come back with a fairer valuation, probably be a loan with an obligation to buy

I reckon this one will ultimately get over the line. PSG are just digging their heels in on the fee but they probably do need to sell now with the signing of Neves.

I'm not convinced sounds like we're a long way apart on price.

Might end up being a loan with option to buy.

Yeah quite possibly being a loan with an option or obligation. I think you may find quite loan deals going through towards the end of the window.

I think it'll be an option rather than an obligation unless they bring the price right down which they won't.

If they leave it as an option if he does well then PSG get the price they want if he doesn't Utd can just send him back.

If PSG are willing to lower the price I suspect Utd will just look to get the deal done unless we're really up against it with FFP which is when these loans with obligations come in.

PSG will refuse and the deadline day will pass and McTominay is going to stay because Fulham has gone for Berge which means PSG can hold up their price. Checkmate.

Not ideal but panic buying again would be a lot worse.

Paying over the odds for Ugarte makes no sense Utd have to show this summer they are serious with their pricing and do deals on their terms.

The new ownership have to change the impression that when Utd come calling we're willing to have our pants pulled down.

Ugarte is not an absolute star that the club absolutely need to land in order to compete for titles again he's a good player that will improve our squad and maybe our starting XI. Like last summer with Mount we shouldn't be paying premium prices for squad players.

It still feels to me like this deal will get done they might just have to get a bit creative with the terms maybe it'll be a loan with an option to buy and a high loan fee like the Amrabat deal last summer.

We could sign Haaland and it'll make sod all difference if the midfield isn't sorted out.

Utd's midfield currently consists of a teenager, two players who are well into their 30's and look it and McTominay. There's potentially 50+ games to play this season there's no way we can get away with the current 4 we have, with Amrabat gone it's actually weaker that it was last season.

We've signed a striker he's grabbed a goal on his debut we need to give the two we've signed a chance to show what they can do this season.

We've seen what the midfield can do and we all know it's not good enough.

No point having a midfield with nobody to put the ball away.

Last season, pre season, game 1 = we need a striker

Our strikers have played 30 minutes between them and have a goal. Bit harsh to say game 1 shows we need a striker.

Maybe we do but we've at least done something this summer to address that by adding Zirkzee.

Our midfield is actually weaker than it was at the end of last season so this area has to absolutely be addressed now before we think about bringing in another striker.

I actually said last season, preseason and game 1.

Goals are a problem.

In game 1, at home to Fulham, we scored with 3 mins to go, a toe poke.

To me, i'm not saying it is true, goals are a problem for this team. A few times against a Fulham, I think a good striker takes up better positions and we score more

the problem here is we need to sell a player to but one.

Does this mean you ignore all other problems?

We certainly need to upgade the midfield, I'm not saying we don't.

But imo, we need Toney

I think if our our two wingers play well and create chances our midfield will play better. I would like to know what Mainoo's pace is compared to someone like Carrick?

No of course but I think we've addressed a lot of problems already this summer especially in the defence and we've bought in a striker to replace Martial with Zirkzee.

I'd probably be looking at left back before bringing in another striker given the fitness problems the current 2 gave but again we're a bit stuck there and they might have to think about a loan deal like they did with Reguilon last season.

Toney to me is a "nice to have" not an essential as for the fee and wages I think he's a massive risk to any club which is why so far I don't think anyone has gone for him. Just think we've got to show a bit of patience with the two young strikers we've bought in and give them a chance if it hasn't worked out with Hojlund this season then we've got to think about bringing in a new striker but I 100% hear your concerns over him.

Whatever money there is has to go on midfield first.

But our strikers played a combined 30 minutes is my point. We didn't play a striker for 60 mins because we are easing him back after the Euros and the other got injured in pre-season. Can't judge our strikers on a performance vs Fulham. In the 30 mins we had one of our strikers on the pitch we scored.

Im not, I'm judging our team over the last year.

We lack goals

We've bought two players with poor goal returns in weaker leagues expecting them to lead the line for united

Hojlund seems to get injured a fair amount, so we are left with 1.

Its just an opinion, we need a goal scorer and there is one available for 50m

I like Toney but by the time the season finishes he's 29. Wants a 5 years contract on £250k a week there is a reason no one is going in for him.

On top of that he got 4 in 17 in the league last season.

Would he inprove our starting 11. Yes. But I thought we wanted to move away from signing older players that will hit their decline on large contracts?

If we've got the money for one I'd rather a CM come in.

Still counts as a goal though even if it was a toe poke?

I think a lot will be very surprised about Zirkzee this year and I think by the time the season ends our striking options will be thought of as dynamite.

Some very good chances created against Fulham, Bruno should have scored a couple, Mount and Garno should have scored too, if that continues we’ll be fine I bet Hojlund was cursing that he wasn’t fit to play.

lets hope you're right :)
