Manuel Ugarte | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

It does apply to Ugarte in a way. I’m fairly positive about him but need to see him keep it going into next season as well as the rest of this one.
Ugarte is the least of our player problems to be fair. He's only 23 and has plenty of time to add to his game. I feel the same though we need to see him have good games consistently. We usually end up with players incapable of doing that.

Yeah just seen plenty of players have alright first seasons then not follow it up.

That has to stop and hopefully Ugarte won’t be the next one.

I do wonder what happened to him at PSG though. Their fans liked him a lot initially, but turned on him.

From memory he made a decent start, got injured and a kid stepped up from the youth team and he couldn’t get his place back.

Got some cracking midfield players at PSG now.

According to WiKi he didn't fit in with Enrique's style and made mainly sub appearances, when PSG sold him to United they took a €10m hit on him. Although there is a reported €10m in add ons.

Not one of my known teams, so I can't really comment.

I do remember Vitinha really impressing me at the last big international tournament.

That would make sense then, yeah, 'cause to me he's a very good player at minimum.

Used to see some of their games as BT/TNT had the rights until the start of this season.

Enrique I think wanted quick technical players as PSG get so much of the ball.

This season they are playing at a ferocious pace. Ruiz was brilliant for Spain in the summer and Neves who came from Benfica looks the real deal.

I see.

Just noticed they're playing tonight, just stuck it on.

I’ve only seen the second half.

They have battered Liverpool all over the pitch but Liverpool have absolutely stolen it.

Unfortunately, that's football.

Liverpool are having a very good season and about nobody predicted it with the change of manager.

The Liverpool keeper had the game of his life to keep it 0-0

Not sure Ugarte would have made the difference for PSG tonight.

Yeah, commentators just said it was PSG vs Alisson tonight.

Ugarte might have broken up some play, and done some chasing, but getting goals and passing isn't his thing.

To be honest the 3 they have now look better players and in the case of Neves he should because he cost a lot more money than Ugarte did.

Some side they’ve got probably just lacking a bit of quality in depth. Liverpool we’re able to freshen up their team without really dropping the quality of players on the pitch and it allowed them to steal one.

The only thing that would have made a difference tonight would have been a sniper taking Alison out. Was on a one man mission.

It's not that hard to be positive at all. You're all still caught up in this season and blaming Amorim for everything, when it's next year your focus should really be on. ETH ended any hope in this season very early.

It is extremely easy to be negative though, and just have a go for the sake of it. I could show up on Southampton's forum every now and then and tell their following they are shit and will be relegated. I don't think I'd be too popular though.
Okay go on explain what hope there is for United next year? You have a good young manager sure. But you have financial constraints and issues. You are going to have to sell some young players to generate money to buy and you need a complete overhaul of your squad. Again I’m not being negative I’m saying what I see. I’m saying it how it is. If United were really good I’d say they were really good. But the truth is you aren’t! And you have been getting worse year on year and I don’t know why you think with the owners you have things are going to get better? Certainly not in the short term.

And for the record if you went on a Southampton forum and told us we were awful you know what response you’d get? “Yeah tell us something we don’t know”.

I'm not going to explain anything to you. If you really think we have absolutely nothing to look forward to, then great.

Some of us know we are awful, and realise that it will take time to resolve all the issues.
Why will next season be better?
The first reason is, it can't be a lot worse.
Secondly we have a manager who has a plan, not a process.
Thirdly, judging by his first signing, it looks as though we have a manager who can recognise value for money and talent in a player.
Finally, we have a list of younger players trying to break into the first team, if they make it then great we save money, if they don't, they can be moved on generating PSR free income in most cases.
I'm really optimistic about next season, a lot more optimistic than I was about this season.
It's not a short term project, it's long term, United fans have to be patient and realise that.

BTW I live in the south, near to Southampton, I know a fair few Saints fans, none of them are happy, they are not unhappy about the players or the manager, they are unhappy about the board and the owners selling off their young talent to line their own pockets. Southampton lack ambition, United don't.

Stop talking so much sense, I am not used to it around here.

Other than jsp and Mr. C, wild opinions are everywhere.

Have you read @Mr C posts? :p

Also opinions cannot be wild, that’s the nature of opinions.
Yeah, I agree a lot with Mr. C actually. I have done since I joined. I think he's very fair. I like him a lot.

It's probably why I don't quote him very much. It would be boring to keep saying: "Yeah, I agree."
