Luke Shaw | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

I thought Dalot was doing ok at LB, much better than his RB efforts.

I'm not doing Shaw down, he's by far our best LB, I'm just not sure he's going to make much difference. Whre he coud make a difference is CB

it's the midfield that need sorting.

As for helping Rashford, I'm not sure we should sway from Rashford Right, Garnacho left. We have looked much better with that combo.

I think you will see the difference Shaw makes when he returns - both defensively and offensively.

Solid enough defensively on the whole on Saturday but it was his shocking pass that led to their goal, then he switched off as is his wont and was in no mans land when the cross came in.

It wasn’t a shocking pass for me. Garnacho was just slow to react and he let the defender get in front of him, which was the story for the whole game. He tried to actually play an intelligent pass instead of just hoofing it which just meant the ball would come back to us.

It was shocking. It was aimless with no pace, Garnacho had Trippier up his backside and 7 of the Newcastle players were already on that side of the pitch after their previous attack(a tame shame shot for Joelinton on the edge of the box), it was schoolboy stuff, a big booming diagonal to Rashford with only one defender anywhere near him with half the pitch to run in to was the ball in that instance even if he was having a stinker.

And then he(Shaw) switched off, which is what he does, he backs off not wanting to engage.

Yeah in a team sport lets blame an individual, kin state of our fan base ....

It was a bad pass didn't give Garnacho much of a chance of winning it.

The back 4 actually got back into a decent enough shape but AWB switched off at the back post, he took his eye off his man and didn't have time to recover.

THUD

Was clever movement from Gordon waiting for the defender to turn his back then made his run.

Still it starts with a bad pass from Shaw which was ruthlessly punished by Newcastle.

I would have to watch the pass again but the least you expect from your attackers is to gather the ball in and keep possession.

On first glance it just looked like Trippier wanted it more but I could be being harsh to Garnacho.

It was a bad pass you need it fired into feet and be ready for it from memory it kind of bounced into him and Trippier was able to just toe it out in front of him.

Garnacho did fight for it but all he could really do was play for the free kick, the pass just wasn't on.

Yeah he played a pass about 20 yards into Garnacho from just outside our box to just inside our half.

It was the way the ball fell that done us think they got a 4 vs 4 or maybe 5 vs 5 as our players had moved forward looking to attack and the turnover meant Newcastle had quite a few players forward.

Newcastle pretty much made the perfect move to open up the gaps to create the goal Almiron came inside to create the space for Trippier on the overlap he played the perfect pass between the defence and the keeper and Gordon timed his run brilliantly to arrive for a tap in.

I think if a teams gets from the halfway line and scores, it isn't one person's fault

I think there’s 2 players at fault.

Shaw for the poor pass that gives Newcastle the counter attack and AWB for not getting back in once the ball is played to Trippier. He decides to react to the run rather than anticipate the run from Gordon, it’s the way he plays and it can be very costly.

I don't think anyone is paying any attention to people like Robbie Savage, he's certainly changed his tune on us when he's doing co-comms these days.

The issue is people like that tit Mark Goldbridge who's progressed for internet weirdo to guest on TalkSport.

He had a poor game at centre back. I wonder if he’ll start at left back against Bayern.

Garbage again from Shaw, has a very good game, everybody says how wonderful he is. then his game goes to shit again.

And, and, he was pulled up for a foul half way into the United half in the 36th minute and he kicked the ball away again, the guy doesn't give too shits about United, send the moron back to London ASAP

Back to London? Are you confused about where Southampton is?

Or maybe you think Kingston is in London.

You’d be wrong on both counts.

I've been to Southampton enough times to watch United play there so no i'm not confused as to where it is, and Kinston upon Thames has been part of Greater London since 1965 pal ....

Ahh. You do think Kingston is in London. I understand.

However it really isn’t. It’s a county in Surrey and has a KT postcode (For Kingston) as oppose to a London postcode.

Oh right so it's a county now is it?

So you don't know where Kingston upon Thames is, nor do you know how postcodes work.

Guess you don't think Luke Shaw sounds like a thick Cockney when he talks either?

Tricky this, I'll say draw.

It is in Surrey, but it is a London Borough

It's been an Outer London Borough for close to sixty years. I guess only if you take a long view of history could you claim it isn't part of London.

Nice place, though.

I used to go to some right awful clubs in Kingston :D

Some lovely pubs on the river though, all around that area.

Found out what Meat Loaf meant by "But I won't do that" in Kingston upon Thames one barmy night in the early 90's, never quite been the same since ....

No one that lives within London would ever think Kingston is a part of London.

London ends at Merton going towards Kingston. With some parts of Wimbledon inside others out. The change over is where it changes from SW19 to SM. The SW being for South West London and the SM being Sutton.

It’s like when people from Watford claim they’re from London. You’d be laughed at. Greater London is due to move to Epsom next year it’s all based on voting areas. But no Epsom will not suddenly become a part of London.

Does it really matter, just accept you are wrong and move on.
