Lisandro Martinez | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

I think it was just tactics, he looked quite mobile to me, Arsenal were pumping high balls into the area, heading isn't exactly his strong point!
I've read it was because of injury on the BBC. Bruno comes over and alerts Amorim that Martinez is injured and then Amorim instructs him to send Martinez up top and drop Collyer in deeper for the last few minutes.

I haven't seen that, I just thought because he brought on Yoro he wanted the taller players in defence. Duh!

Hopefully just a knock.

The Athletic also reported that Bruno came over to Amorim and at that point the players moved around and Martinez went up top.

Bagged the winner with the help of a big deflection but I doubt he really cares.

Most saying done his ACL again and out for the year. But nothing confirmed yet.

No one will know yet what he’s done but from his reaction he knows it’s bad.

It may not be as bad as first feared once they do the scans but even best case that it’s strains rather than a torn ligament he will struggle to be back this season.

I guess Shaw will be in that spot assuming he can get to Friday without injuring himself

As someone who has torn an ACL, lets hope it's a twist and not a tear, either is (insert swear word here) painful, I was in a brace for six months, what takes the time is rebuilding the muscle.
If it is a tear, then most likely we wont see him again until this time next season, reading between the line on what Amorim said, it's serious.
Everyone talking about Shaw coming in, forgetting we have Yoro and Jonny Evans to rotate, both must be a better option than sick note.

Confirmed he's torn his ACL. Doubt we will see him this side of Christmas.

Best case is 6 months worst case is a year.

Even then when players come back it can take months to recover full fitness and confidence.

He has had rotten luck with injuries

Voice of experience says that it is indeed a long way back, in my case, my footballing life was cut short, so I became a referee (no haters please

Think his time with United could be over only 2 years left on his contract, this is his 2nd serious knee injury and those 2 years left could take most of that time up in recovery, club needs to replace him.

Not sure they can really afford to replace him this summer there's so much else to be done.

It's another headache the club really didn't need.

It's going to be Christmas before there is a hint of seeing him again, lets hope he returns the same, ACL injuries are always career threatening.

Yeah going to be 6-12 months before you see him again depending on how the surgery/rehab goes.

Once he's back it will probably take him 2-3 months to get back up to speed.

I just don't see where the money comes from to buy more centre backs this summer.

Lindelof and Evans will leave at the end of the season when contracts expire. Maguire looks 50/50 I expect he'll probably stay now.

Maz/Shaw are probably going to be viewed as centre back options now rather than wing backs.

So that leaves us Maz, Yoro, De Ligt, Maguire, Heaven, Shaw and Martinez in the squad for next season. 7 players for 3 spots but really with the injuries it's 5 to cover 3 spots.

Sheesh when you think things can’t get any worse. Martinez has actually been one of our better performers of late, so this is a blow.

I wonder if there is ever a scenario where Amorim will go away from his preferred formation? You have to have three players in that back three who are going to work there and dovetail off each other.
