Lee Carsley appointed interim head coach of England

I think there is a bit over hype and under selling Southgate here

He would have won this by at least the same margin. We looked a bit exposed a couple of times at the back. We need to see him/his team against some proper opposition.

But it was a professional job, we looked good, but really poor opposition
 
I think the problem is we won't see Carsley tested in the games he's got as interim we're in group 2 in Nations League this time around so we're playing teams that we can experiment against and still beat.

Unless things go badly wrong vs Finland my guess is they'll extend his interim appointment for the October and November internationals.

Apart from Potter it doesn't feel like there's another guy ready to step in. Poch still hasn't been officially announced as the USA manager but it's basically been reported as a done deal.

The FA can't drag their heels to much on this one the next manager needs to be in place for the world cup qualifiers which start next year.
 
First start for Angel Gomes tonight.

Been pretty tidy certainly gives us another option.

Finland getting a few chances on the break.

I'm not impressed by Carsley.

Two wins, but against two poor teams. Saturday 2nd half, and all of last night, boring football, suspect at the back.
 
You can only beat what's put in front of you and we were trying out a few new players so it's never going to be smooth and perfect.

The counter attacking issues in the first half would be punished by better side but their keeper was having an absolute blinder as well we created loads of chances ourselves.

It's a shame we won't get a chance to judge him against tougher opponents.
 
Totally the same boring style with most of them, but the injection of Gordon made an amazing difference on the left side. Southgate should be ashamed.
 
Think the big question will be who does he pick for the next games if everyone is fit again.

How he manages not picking one of the "superstar" names will be the true test of his credentials.

Gibbs-White, Konsa and Mainoo have all pulled out of the original squad with injury not sure replacements will be called up.

Following Mainoo's withdrawal no Man Utd players in the England squad.

With Bellingham/Saka/Palmer/Foden all available this time he's got to work out that conundrum of who out of them plays and where do they play.

I haven't seen much of the start of La Liga but on form you'd say it's Saka and Palmer starting with Bellingham and Foden on the bench.
 
Curtis Jones and Tino Livramento added to England squad.

Jones was an important player for Carsley in the U21s but not sure he's played much for Liverpool this season due to injury.

Livramento can play on either side at full back which might help with our left back problems.

Pickford ain’t all that he’s very overrated.
Greece well worth the win unless England can do something late.
 
Only seen the second half but we’ve been poor.

Think we just have to accept you can’t fit Foden/Bellingham/Saka into the same team.

Bellingham in the 2 leaves us a bit exposed and everyone just seems to get in each others way. Especially when you also chuck in a false 9
 
Not a great look for Carsley tonight, looked desperately poor at times and Greece were worthy winners.
 
I think he’s in with a shout unless I’m missing a new report this morning but he probably doesn’t expect to get it. I’ve not been that impressed by the performances or his overall persona, so for me it should be someone else.
 
Think it was brave to try something new it didn’t really work on the night but it was worth a shot.

I would guess in the next game we will see Watkins start as a proper number 9.

The balance just wasnt right it was a bit to much freedom and no real shape.

The lesson learned was maybe that setup is to extreme it needs a bit more grit and control.

Whoever comes in the pressure to pick all those attacking players will be intense. I don’t think it’s a code that can be cracked you just need to pick your guys and go with them.
 
You can't fit Bellingham, Foden, Palmer all in the same team.

we've been here before.

Need a strong manager to make the right calls.

and maybe look at a new keeper
 
Foden practically disappears in an England shirt, Palmer is playing well for his club but went round in circles last night, should have put his chance away though. Iv never been impressed with Pickford he`s very average.
 
I can see why he tried it and he did it a bit different dropping Bellingham a bit deeper.

You just end up with no one on the left as all 3 of your attacking midfield players in Saka, Foden and Palmer are left footed.

My guess is they’ll keep trying the Bellingham/Rice midfield but they’ll change that 3 in front.

Foden as brilliant as he is should drop out as he just isn’t doing it for England.

Won’t be the first or last player to be a world class club player but a mediocre international one and vice versa

For all our brilliant attackers we do lack the genuine quality in defence and midfielders.

Have never really warmed to Pickford, he is like the keeping version of Bruno, throws his hands up and has a mardy when someone does something wrong. Sadly though the other keepers knocking about like Ramsdale, Johnstone, Henderson etc are no better. Pope perhaps but gets knocked down because he’s not as good on the ball.
 
3-1 win away against Finland.

England will need 2 hefty wins in their final 2 games to get promoted back to tier 1 in the nations league.

Carsley has ruled himself out of the job on a permanent basis, doesn’t think he’s ready for it yet.
 
bellingham is brilliant, but there is too much of the Bruno about him, which I hate.

He's the same at Madrid, if he provides an assist, he doesn't go and congratulate the scorer, he expects people to come to him for the assist

I think he would be the one I'd drop
 
I haven't seen all the games but the worry currently for me is defensively we are starting to look a lot more fragile without balancing that out with more goals.

Grealish has responded well to losing his spot in the squad over the summer, really played his way back in.

Whoever is in charge going forward there still seems to be so many question marks over the team.

I think 3 of the positions in the back 4 are up for grabs with only Stones really locked in, in midfield who plays with Rice, who will be the 3 behind the striker and the other bigger question of do we need to start planning for life after Kane. Can we really expect him to turn up to the world cup in 18 months fully fit?
 
Although I'm not a massive fan of Watkins [probably because I don't watch Villa or like them very much] the fact of the matter is he's been in good form for quite some time now, he has to start to see more game time, as Kane is also the worry for me. We've also got Solanke as an option now. Sometimes the best formula is a surprising one, perhaps it is Solanke that will be the best fit, we need to give him time too.
