Seems a sensible move no need to rush into a decision

Names his first squad this week.

Bellingham out injured.

Will we see any new faces given a chance?

I think you may see a few from that have played U21’s. Morgan Rogers has been brilliant for Villa since arriving so wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in.

Then guys like Gibbs-White, Harvey Elliott, Rico Lewis to name a couple may get a shot.

I doubt we will see any of the axed regulars back, Rashford and Grealish definitely not I would say.

You also wonder if some of Southgate’s faves will still be first picks, thinking of guys like Walker, Trippier and Maguire.

Would be nice to see Mitchell from Palace in as a left back we have to look at our options here as we'll never be able to rely on Shaw.

I did wonder if Ben White might get a recall with Southgate gone on recent form he's probably our best right back and has that good relationship with Saka from club level.

With the tournament 2 years away it's probably a good time to start thinking about life beyond Trippier and Walker and maybe even Maguire. Dunk is another who I think could drop out.

Branthwaite is injured so he won't get called up.

Gibbs-White is a funny one he's a good player but there's just so many other top quality options ahead of him.

If he does well in the interim period I can see them keeping him on unless they've got an opportunity to land a top manager to come in at least a year before the world cup starts.

Pep I think is no chance, my gut feeling is he's going to renew at City dependant on what happens with those charges.
Klopp has basically said he's retired and unlikely to manage again.
Ancelotti - timing could work if he leaves Madrid this summer as expected it would give him a year to coach the team before the world cup.

As for the English options
Howe - might be available if he gets the boot from Newcastle
Potter - who knows what's going on with him probably being paid not to manage by Chelsea currently.

Bit like Southgate who was also an interim if the players take to him and the team is looking in good shape I can see them giving him the job.

I'd be shocked if Klopps next job isn't England or Germany. No way he's retired for good.

You never know he's 57 years old I can see why at that age he might want to spend more time with family and settle down.

International football might be more relaxed but does it really suit a guy like Klopp who works at incredible intensity with his players. I could maybe see him being tempted by the Germany job if it comes up after the next world cup but I think he'd swerve the England job.

Never used to feel this way but I do think the England manager should be English it's pretty disgraceful how few top managers we've produced over the last 30 years.

I agree they should be English. But if you offer me Carsley and a semi final or Klopp and winning it I'm taking Klopp.

As you say the managers we've produced aren't good enough.

Retiring sounds great but Klopp is a character that will miss competing.

I kind of agree we're so starved of that win maybe you're willing to compromise to get us over that last hurdle and actually win a tournament but even with a Klopp there's no guarantee.

Not sure we aren't producing them there's just no opportunity for them in our top division. 1 mistake like Potter for example and you have to take 3 steps back just to get another chance.

Wouldn't be surprised if Klopp had a few health warnings that maybe helped make his mind up for him but as maybe a little 1 year stint for 1 tournament might be enough.

As for Klopp

He came out and said he's taking a year off, England put in a temp coach. Not sure thats a coincidence.

Klopp said in June he's retired from coaching so I think he's done.

A short term international gig might tempt him out but I think if we're not sticking with Carsley after these first few games the new guy needs to come in straight away.

Personally I don't see us having much chance in the USA think the conditions will be to much for our players. You can't play "heavy metal" football in 40 degree heat. The teams that will do well in that tournament will be the teams who can slow the game down and control it.

Brilliant to see Angel Gomes in the squad! Been doing very well with Lille and his development has moved on at pace playing regularly.

Full England squad

Goalkeepers:
Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Newcastle United)

Defenders: Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), John Stones (Manchester City), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Levi Colwill (Chelsea), Rico Lewis (Manchester City), Tino Livramento (Newcastle), Harry Maguire (Manchester United)

Midfielders: Conor Gallagher (Atletico Madrid), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Angel Gomes (Lille), Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Forwards: Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Noni Madueke (Chelsea) Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).

It will be interesting to watch England again because it go so boring under waistcoat, I think Carsley will
do well.

Foden, Palmer and Watkins have all dropped out.

I see Carsley has received praise for England’s 2-0 win over Ireland. I didn’t watch the match, did the performance warrant the praise?

Yes it was a lot more attack focussed, should have scored more but the result never looked in doubt. Kane has slowed up a fair bit now and you can see him getting replaced soon for a younger faster CF.

The difference was we actually wanted to win the match.

Southgate decided to use defensive tactics with our team - that right there would have been enough for me to sack him. Our talent lies in attack, and by that I mean our best players, therefore you set your team to attack mode. Simple stuff.

He started with a proper wide player on both flanks. Gordon was the out ball often and he created the first goal and had a solid game.

Some very slick passing and as others have said, England were looking to get forward a lot more.
Second half, they took their foot off the gas, but still created three great chances.

Not that solid defensively. Ireland had a fair few chances and a better team would've scored.

Entertaining game and a positive start for Carsley.

I only caught a small bit second half by then the game was over.

Did some of the injuries force his hand a little bit?

Will he pick these players again when Foden and Bellingham are both fit?

I do wonder if the big call will actually be dropping one of them to the bench.

Good to see Angel Gomes get his debut.

Hopefully everyone moves on from this nonsense about him singing or not singing the national anthem.

I hate to say it, but Terence Trent Darby, or whatever his name is, a fabulous passer of the ball. Reminds me of Beckham

You'd expect one of Bellingham or Foden to replace Grealish as a starter.

But yeah, he has a tough call to make, especially if this staring line-up keeps playing well.

'Lizzie's in a box' indeed. What lovely people the Irish are. I'm glad it's only England fans that 'sink to such depths.'

Only ever seen one person call him that before online, I'll let you guess who ....

Don't know if its disturbing, or great minds thinking alike.

Yeah having watched the euros you have to look at them and think along with Saka you can’t get all 3 of them in the team.
