Joshua Zirkzee | Match Discussion Thread 2024/25

Needs to sharpen up his game for sure, he looks like he’s still in Italian football where you get a little bit more time on the ball. He’s got to realise this is a fast paced league and you’ve got to recycle the ball quickly.

It’s way too premature to write off a player yet but I can see why there are grumblings about him.
 
Still not seen anything that says striker to me.

Some of his play today was pretty dire
 
I hope it's all to do with confidence too. Playing easy passes was difficult for him tonight.
 
He won’t be going anywhere unless we find a replacement.
 
What I find quite surprising with him is for a big lad he looks very timid. He seems to wait for the ball to come to him instead of going to get it - which in turn gives defenders a chance to nip in.

He’s not a lost cause yet because this could just be purely down to confidence but he’s got a big job getting fans on side.
 
He was poor in the first half, better in the second. Think he’s struggle to adapt to the pace and tempo of Premier League football. He missed pre-season, that could be a factor.
 
It’s early days still so he can’t be called a bust or a bad signing yet but it doesn’t look good. He looks slow and technically he doesn’t look good enough either. Still early as I said and every player needs time to settle but I don’t see why United signed him so far.
 
Think Capello said something on Italian TV the other day about the speed of the English game being a problem for him.

Basically in Serie A he had the time on the ball to basically do whatever he wanted and no one could really stop him in England he doesn't have that thinking time and he's really struggling to act on instinct.

He just looks to slow for this league as a centre forward
 
I still really like him for some reason, although I do agree he needs to up his game a bit. Plenty of time for him yet.
 
I can see bits I like about him but that lack of speed and ruthlessness is going to be a problem for him in this league.

There was a rumour going round yesterday that ETH had suggested brining Welbeck back to the club in the summer as the competition for Hojlund. I genuinely believe that would have been a smarter move than bringing in this guy.

Zirkzee to me just doesn't look like a premier league footballer. Hopefully with a bit more time he adapts but so far things are getting worse not better.
 
I think the Welbeck thing was the year before as he was a approachng a free, but they fumbled and he signed a new deal after the Jan transfer window

as well as looking an awful footballer, Zirkzee's attitude seems a bit off, cas scores a screamer, and no reaction from him

I read it as this summer to replace Martial but the club wanted to bring in another young striker rather than a veteran.

Not that sure Welbeck would come back he seems to take a lot of joy from scoring against us every time he plays, he didn't exactly leave on great terms.

I haven't picked up on the attitude he looks desperate for a goal and doesn't feel to me like he's really worked out how to play in the team yet.
 
Shocking performance again, he can't control the ball, has no game intelligence, and his passing is woeful

We are literally celebrating players who make one completed pass with his feet, and one with his head these days.

thats where we are.

If anybody thinks this player has the quality good enough to play for Man Utd, then it's an indication of how far we have fallen.

I know people on here will have a pop, the same people who had a pop when I said Hojlund wasn't good enough, and who are now coming to the same conclusion
 
I thought he showed a few good signs yesterday after coming on but wont be getting carried away it was Leicester.
I still dont know why we bought him and he looks a bit overweight and slow.

Or it's an indication of how poor you are at seeing talent.

Watching football doesn't make you good at scouting. Our scouts obviously disagree with you too.
 
ETH pushed for Antony, and there was nothing wrong with Sancho's returns in the Bundesliga; he looked a very good player. When we bought him everybody was very excited. However, they can't read the future and know he won't make it in the PL.

Scouts go and watch players in multiple games, and usually in numbers. Their sole responsibility is to get up close and scrutinise a player. I doubt you have those abilities or means.
 
He didn't really pop up in the highlights I saw.

Be interesting to see how the new manager uses him.

Thats not entirely true, he was on the scouts radar because he was discussed with Ole.

I really cant see Zirkzee at the club next year, he'll be lucky to make it to Feb imo. I think he'll be loaned out.

Time will tell us who's right.

In the mean time you could be a bit nicer to a player trying to do his best for your entertainment.

Please make one. Other than just calling a new player out way before he's had any chance to prove anything.

You wrote off Onana early but question why @Mr C is doing the same with Zirkzee? That’s the point I am guessing.

I feel Onana deserved to be nicer to as well - he was doing his best. ;)

I actually feel I was very fair to Onana. He was a very error prone keeper playing in a very important position and I feel that's why I gave him more emphasis.

I've just recently admitted I was wrong about him.

As proven here... I am fair.
