If I was to make up a Portuguese youngster who played for Benfica to be linked with Utd he’d definitely be called Joao Neves.

Born in 2004, this kid might not even have been born when Rooney made his Utd debut.
 
Benfica don't do discounts they only sell on their terms it's pay the release clause or no deal.

They squeezed Liverpool and Chelsea for every penny on Darwin and Enzo.

I just did a quick search he signed a new contract in August until 2028 which according to Sky Sports has a release clause set at £103m.

This stinks of the usual slow news day (international week) story that bounces around... you'll never guess who his agent is!

If he's that good I imagine every club is keeping an eye on him but if he's under contract until 2028 then the only way to get him will be to pay that release fee.

I mean anyone thinking of buying this kid will just be told to pay his buyout clause that is how Benfica operate.

They might let you cover a bit of it with add ons and maybe let you spread the payments out for cashflow but they'll be getting a huge fee for that kid from whoever wants to buy him there won't be much negotiation.
 
Possibly but I suspect with Ugarte they need to be confident they can move on Casemiro, Eriksen or McTominay before moving for a new midfielder.

The two who've come in so far have been direct replacements for the two who's contracts expired. Yoro for Varane and Zirkzee for Martial.

Feels to me like everything else will be a bit of 1 in 1 out this summer.
 
Yeah I think at least one of Casemiro or McT will need to be moved on before we sign another midfielder.

Although I guess we don’t really know the budget but if I was giving a prediction, I think bringing in Ugarte and de Ligt along with Yoro and Zirkzee will be the end of our business.
 
Has anyone shown any interest in signing Casemiro? At least Fulham want McT.

If we end up with Ugarte, Zoro and Zebedee, that's a decent window.
