I’m glad we seemed to have changed our approach. The last few years it’s offer £40m and get knocked back, so end up paying £70/80m just to get the job done.

The value is out there so even if we miss out on one option, you move on and reassess.

Ultimately I think we will reach an agreement with Everton but we won’t be fleeced.

And neither will Everton

Bloody hell. That's a blast from the past. Hope you're good fella!

What's your thoughts on his potential. As I've said previously he's the best young defender I've ever seen. My Everton supporting mate thinks his potential levels above Stones

This is going to be a long one.... that's not going to get him either. It's gotta be £55-60m total for them to think about it.

Similar fee to what Arsenal paid for Ben White 3 years ago.

Well I say just offer them £60m see what they say. If they say no, then let them think about it for the rest of the window. Thing is though, if we don't buy him this summer and he has another good season, we'll be looking at a £100m player. So you have to think about risk and reward. Is giving them the £70m they want now smart business, as we'd probably still be interested next year, so it could end up being a £30m saving. Maybe more.

If we can't afford £70m then walk away they're pricing him out of the market.

Yeah he might have a banging season but I don't see the price going higher they're already pricing him up with the most expensive centre backs ever and he's no pedigree at european or international level. If he does have a great season there might be a bit more competition with other teams interested but really I don't see where that comes from.

He could easily struggle next season and suddenly he's not the golden goose.

To me he isn't anywhere near enough of a sure thing to pay "sure thing" prices.

They want United tax because the club have been wreckless for years and known to overpay (Antony) but I think the deal is close to collapsing now because Ineos won’t fall for it.

Think prem to prem deals are just expensive.

They have him under a long contract so hold a strong hand and aren't budging and why would they.

If Utd are going for De Ligt I think they're looking at Branthwaite/Yoro as the 3rd choice under study. You can't spend £70m on that sort of player.

I think if they bring in two, Lindelof goes.

My guess is Lindelof and Maguire are up for sale this summer both will want regular first team football.

Martinez plus 2 new arrivals then they'll probably offer Evans a 1 year deal then it's Kambwala as the 5th and Shaw as the 6th.

I thought he did ok but wasn't massively stand out at the euros.

Palace will want a big fee for him which is the same issue we have with Branthwaite.

Looks like this one might be put on hold for at least another 12 months now if Everton aren't in a position where they are being forced to sell him because of financial reasons.

If I was Branthwaite I'd only agree a new deal if it included some sort of release clause even if it's the current £80m valuation.

If he has another good seasons teams might be more willing to pay that sort of fee.

One game tells you absolutely nothing.

The game was changed by our early goal - anyone watching knows Everton were dominant at the start of the game and their defence was doing well enough.

He's lost his backup too in Onana, he provided more cover for Everton, and they've not replaced him effectively.

No point having a go 'cause you don't like him or his price tag. The guy is class, and you'd know it if you watched him for more than one game.

I think he’s overhyped a touch which is usually the case for young English players. Got some great tools in his locker but not sure he’s ready for that step up yet.
