Jadon Sancho | Match Discussion Thread 2023/24

I don’t either was just offering up another potential reason.

I don’t think it was done for malicious reasons he was asked a fair question and gave a fair response if Sancho wants to be in the squad he needs to do more to impress the manager in training.

Thought it was a strange question to ask at that time, now if EtH had said he really needed some experienced front-six players to bring on to see the game out instead of throwing two kids on i'd have understood it. As it was it's possible/probable the hack asking the question knew exactly how EtH would reply, the cynic in me thinks they worked it out between themselves what to say before the game. If United had won the absence of McTominay and Sancho wouldn't have been mentioned.

I think it was a question worth asking no point asking the same things others have asked and the press probably do decide before the Q&A bit who's asking what questions to make sure don't all end up covering the same thing. You've got a squad full of kids and a senior player who wasn't reported as injured is missing as a journalist I think you have to ask that question.

I think if we won that question still gets asked post game the McTominay absence I think was explained by injury before the game, Sancho not being in the squad was a surprise.

I do wonder if ETH went in knowing if he was asked about it (he probably expected the question) then this was going to be his answer, he wasn't going to cover it up he was going to give his reason. As you said he might have even given the nod to someone in the press pack he trusts to ask him that question as he wanted to give that answer because he's fed up with Sancho.

The press all work together and was it a question worth asking when everybody knew the answer.

I've been critical of some of his comments on players before but not in this instance, and i've listened to it 5 or 6 times now, guess a lot of that is down to how highly you/I rate the player, shouldn't be but ....

I've got no issue with what he said either.

Managers have to go into press conference pre prepared with answers to the obvious questions and he will have expected a question about Sancho.

It's his job to pick his squad from the available players and if he doesn't think Sancho was good enough to make the squad on Sunday then he's well within his rights to say so.

Based on his performances so far this season I don't recall anything stand out that makes me think he had to be in the side.

He had Rashford/Garnacho for the left, Martial/Hojlund for centre forward and Anthony/Pellistri for the right side. If the boss thinks Pellistri is going to be a better option off the bench in a tight game than Sancho that's his decision to make.

Sancho to me looks to now be 3rd choice in the two wide positions and if he wants to be moved up the order he needs to start putting in more consistent performing.

Whatever has happened over the next 2 weeks these two need to sit down and sort it out as the club.

Don't think it was in a post-match presser, it was in the press zone where the club(s) are required to put forward one staff member and two players that have played in the match within minutes of the full-time whistle.

It's funny, I paused the match bang on fulltime like I normally do and saw EtH's press piece an hour plus after the event, and as I never comment, or read other peoples comments when the matches are in progress as i'm far to too involved in the game to do so, and I hadn't realised that Sancho wasn't involved until I saw @Mr C's post 34 minutes after the match had started saying Sancho wasn't involved when I had a look see on here at full-time - and I say that as somebody who instantly notices when player A, E or Z are missing whichever United team is playing normally, says a lot about Sancho's impact, or lack of since he came to the club. A potential game-changer is the first name you should notice missing - be interesting to see who else noticed his absence, or cared - guessing the number would be high.

I don't think there's any way back for Sancho, and if I was EtH i'd be tempted to blank him.

same, a pool fan was saying our bench was expensive*, I was adding it up, and didn't notice Sancho missing. (*he was being a wum about Maguire)

Something else happened in the game which made me think about him coming on, and I remembered I hadn't added his value to the bench sum

Sancho has removed the post from his social media

Horse. Shut. Gate. Bolted.

Think I'd see this as the first step to re-integration.

I don't think we'll see any public apologies, I'm sure ETH will say something before the Brighton game press conference and I think he'll be on the bench for that game as long as he's trained well this week.

It does feel like it's going to end with Sancho leaving the club maybe even in January

not going to play for a while

Is training on his own until problem with ETH resolved

Must be approaching more official club statements than points this season.

Him deleting the tweet made me think they'd sorted it out on Monday but sounds like that was only step 1.

Transfer windows in Turkey and Qatar still open.

Step one should have been a grovelling apology on 'X' which appears to be his platform of choice.

Unless EtH is sacked doubt he'll ever play for United again.

Sadly for a £70m man, we probably won’t miss him. He doesn’t bring much to the party when he starts and he’s not fantastic off the bench.

Just catching up on things after a busy week. This article is fairly damming for Sancho:

I felt like things were heading towards a reconciliation and moving on but if there hasn't been an apology then I support ETH's stance.

Some things are bigger than short term results he has to change the culture within this group of players that stuff like this won't be accepted.

The frustrating thing is this all plays out in the press because neither party is willing to share details which just leaves a load of room for speculation. Will be interesting to see if ETH addresses this at his press conference today.

I'm surprised this has gone as high as the manager, if he's turning up late then the players should be on his back in the first instance.

This does reflect in our play a little, it's not a united squad. No discipline

Not keep harping back, but we do, Keane, Giggs etc would not accept that.

We don't know if the players have spoken to him, you'd expect your senior players to be having a word but it feels like this stuff falls on deaf ears with Sancho.

Just feels to me like ETH is trying to raise standards to the level they need to be and some players can't meet the basic requirements of turning up on time. We saw last season he benched Rashford because he was late for a team meeting.

It makes me think that there was some poor character judgement going on with the signings recently. Sancho had a bit of history with this stuff at City and Dortmund and it may well be that in the Fergie era that would have been enough to rule him out as a signing.

Ten Hag's key quote was this: "Strict lines is what the club asked me (to bring in) because there was no good culture before last season so (my job was) to set good standards. That is what I did and it is my job to control the standards.

“It is never someone makes one mistake, it is a whole process before you come to a certain outcome."

I like the cut of his jib.

Another positive, the new canteen, the club chef and the rule players must lunch onsite. Report even cheekily mentioned the posh restaurants will be upset to lose the United business.

Heard a great story the other day from Daniel Harris who writes for the guardian.

Apparently one of the reasons Sancho annoyed ETH recently was after a training game the punishment for losing was 5 push ups. Sancho's team lost everyone did their 5 push ups but he only did 4. When ETH called him out on only doing 4 and told him to do another 5 Sancho refused.

At my tennis lesson, after each discipline, we go and pick the balls up from the court so we can do the next. There is one fella who doesn't pick the balls up, winds me up so much

Yeah stuff like that annoys me as well was the same when I played football and players just chucked their kit in a heap didn't turn it out the right way and would never do their turn to clean the changing room after games. These were often the players who'd let you down by not turning up or stop turning up half way through the season, you couldn't rely on people like that.

Trying to be clever and missing 1 push up in that situation just tells you that he's not taking it seriously and you know from stuff like that when it comes to the crunch he'll hide.

Obviously no idea if that story is true but it seems to fit his personality.

yeah, lets say I wouldn't be surprised, just like I would be surprised about a certain comedian.

You just know deep down.

Another example of us signing a player with the wrong character for the dressing room.

Way to tell people you've got loads of disposable money ;)

Yeah 5/6 year old kids can be really annoying, they probably did the same at home ....

Really, what makes you say that.

305e for use of the 4 courts, plus a 90 min lesson each week. Wouldn't say that was loads for a year

Oh yeah forgot you were in France, a sporting country that encourages people to be active, meanwhile in Blighty ....

Apparently turned up late for training today.

Also, been seen online playing video games at 3am
