Jadon Sancho | Match Discussion thread 2022/23

Welcome to Stretford End Arising!

We'd like you to share your thoughts, ask questions, and have a chat on the latest Manchester United news, rumours and opinion.

I thought it was a brilliant pass, perfectly weighted to enable McTominay to get the shot away first time.

I don’t think he’s a Utd player doesn’t have the heart for it.

Every opponent is going to give their best against Utd and you have to be ready for it even if they want to make it a scrap you have to be willing to take the fight to them. He just doesn’t fancy it when it’s not going his way.

I think he should be looking to move on in the summer but not sure there will be a long queue of clubs knocking at the door for him.

His lack of desire is worrying, he didn’t help Dalot out at all and Ocampos was having a field day. Once the runner went past him he just stopped. Another awful performance really.

He hasn’t got the mentality to play for a team that isn’t dominating the ball.

The real judge of his character will be what does he want to do.

He should be looking at this situation and telling his agent you need to get me out of here in the summer not I'll stick around here collecting my £350k a week.

He's got loads of talent but this isn't the place for him to show it off.

I was quite positive when he was sent away to Holland to train on his own as I thought it showed a desire to kick start his career, however there does not seem to be any noticeable change in performance.

Such a frustrating player! When he’s on the ball, you can see he has excellent technique and ability but beyond that he’s pretty weak. If he had a little bit more pace he would be more threatening. Beyond that though his desire and work rate is seriously below par.

I think he will get one more season but not as an automatic pick. He’s got to earn the right to be here and at the moment he isn’t at all.

Delighted that he scored his penalty. I was worried by the potential setback if he had missed. Decent cameo too.

Didn’t think he was great when he came on myself but glad he scored his penalty in the shootout.

I actually thought he did well yesterday, relatively speaking. Which is entirely the problem. How many times have we said that Sancho was unplayable today? When was the last time he took over a game or came on as a sub and changed the match? I had high hopes when he signed. I had high hopes when EtH took over. I had high hopes when he came back from his stint in Holland. Nothing seems to have changed.

When Garnacho comes on, I know I'm going to see a player making a difference or at the very least running his fullback and creating something. When Sancho comes on, I expect a bit of running but nothing to get me out of my seat or change the match. Sort of the same reaction I have when Elanga comes on. That ain't good.

How do we reckon Sancho played? For me, he was better buy another frustrating performance where he lacked conviction. I thought he dwelled on the ball in positions causing attacking moves to lose momentum.

I mean…is meh the technical term for Sancho these days? He did well moving from box to box but once he faced some resistance he either checked back or lost the ball. He looks like his confidence is completely shot or isn’t capable of forcing something to happen, which is strange given his undoubted talent.

has he ever played the full 90 minutes since joining?

That was it in a nutshell! He just doesn't have the penetration we all expected of him. Where is all that pace everybody was talking about!

Think he’s good if you can get him on the ball a lot within say 30 yards of the opponents goal with players around him. His close control, vision, passing and finishing is quality.

When you get him the ball on the halfway line and expect him to hurt teams from there he isn’t much of a threat. He can’t carry the ball long distances like Rashford can.

Around the box he has a bad habit of trying to create the perfect shooting chance by beating an extra man or beating someone twice rather than just letting the shot go. When it works he looks amazing but I think he’d get more goals if he got the shots away quicker.

His fitness is a huge problem he stops running backwards in the second half of games which is why every game he is subbed. Maybe if Utd were a more dominant side who spend most of the game in the opponents half this is less of an issue but in the current setup it’s a problem.

Piss poor again. Can somebody PM @SuperRash and ask him what he was on, I want some ....
There is just no killer instinct in and/or around the box, too much dithering and making the wrong choice when finally making the mind up. He is not on his own with this. Bang the feckin thing and make the keeper work!

He's the player City signed from Watford, mmm, if only we can improve his end product, his time at Dortmund fooled him, and the United scouts, City are probably still laughing .....
