Jadon Sancho | Match Discussion thread 2022/23

Last year was pretty tough for him as a young man.

He obviously had the set back of missing the penalty in the shoot out in the euros and all the grief that came his way from that, his big money move to Utd didn't pan out the way he hoped on the field and he lost a close family member last season as well. His Auntie died in January. So he's kind of been dealing with a lot of stuff both on and off the pitch.

I think it's a good move that he's shown willing to work with the manager and take steps to help himself by coming off social media completely and also going off and doing some one to one training with someone the manager thinks can help him. He's not the first person to have these problems in their career the first step to sorting out that problem is to admit that you have that problem and try to make a change.

Football takes a brutal tole on your mental well being with huge highs and lows and only those who can manage that sort of swing survive in the game. You can't allow the lows to drag you down and you also can't just live in the highs.

A big thing that will help his game is getting himself physically fitter as that has been a problem for him at Utd he only lasts 60 minutes if he can address that and get himself into better physical shape it may then help his confidence.
Ah some sense and realism about the stresses of football - need to teach @Justin Cider some of this sense.

It's gonna be eerily quiet in here from now, and let's be honest it's like a ghost town at the best of times, if we are all so sensitive to mental health issues, I mean no more "Maguire is shit" "let's try and sell him if we can find anybody daft enough to give us £10m for him" "I wouldn't even have him in my pub team" comments. Not sure how you folk will pass the day ....

How boringly predictable Rash JC, well done.

Guess we might see him back for the cup games we’ve got coming up.

Hopefully this brings back the real Sancho as we are yet to see him.

If this gets us the real Sancho back, I don't care how long it takes. Whatever Rashford did over the summer has transformed him, hopefully this has the same effect on Sancho.

I think the big thing for Rashford is he looks miles fitter than he did at any point last season.

Sancho never looks fit enough to play 90 minutes he needs to sort that out.

Excellent stuff. Hopefully he can show the fans some of the excitement they wanted to see from him when he first came. He started the season well then drifted off again.

Think he'll thrive from having a striker he wants to play intricate football up there with him that he can bounce off.

Nah mate, where have you been, sadly Ronaldo has left the club. Gone somewhere East I think

This might be a bizarre suggestion, but does Sancho possess the tools to play as a false nine?

No, he's got most of the tools needed but sadly he comes from the same school of football intelligence as Luke Shaw.

Might be worth a try against Charlton in the cup mind.

Think ETH is handling this very well he's giving the player every chance to sort out his issues be they physical or mental and not rushing him back.

The club need this method to work because they've put so much money into this kid they can't really afford for him to fail.

His potential as a player is pretty much unlimited but I do think physically he hasn't looked anywhere near an elite performer he gasses out on 60 minutes pretty much every game and he's been very injury/illness prone. If this individual training routine sorts that out he'll become a much better player and the confidence should return to him.

Yep hopefully we see a new and improved version of Sancho.

I'd be guessing that they might be looking for the upcoming run of cup games as the chance to get him back out on the pitch.

Did nowt when he came on, maybe trying too hard.
Let's cut him a little bit of slack and give him time to settle back in, as he has been out of football for four months. We shouldn't expect a MOTM performance, he will be rusty. He needs our full support.

I think we'll see more of this in future, which might explain why so many first teamers played tonight.

Nothing wrong with what I said, now if i'd said he was shite and we should get rid of him asap ....

I thought he was ok when he came on was involved in the build up to the second goal played a nice ball out to Bruno.

Hasn't played in 4 months so bound to be a bit rusty.

Interesting to see him played as a number 10 maybe something we see more of in games as in the centre his quick feet and movement could really open teams up. Maybe ETH feels he just doesn't have that raw speed to play out wide.
