Harry Maguire to leave?

The problem is, we cannot replace him until he leaves. So it's double bad.

Two words - Eric Bailly. ;)

Maguire isn’t a bad defender by any means but his confidence is shot at this club, he’s a bag of nerves every time he steps onto the field. That’s not even a main dig at him because the idiotic fans who get on his back are also very much to blame.

If we were down to the bare bones then yes we would have to play him but Lindelof and Shaw would be my picks ahead of him right now.

Wow, just wow, so i'm guessing you are playing Dalot at left-back, or are you promoting one of the clubs promising youngsters @jsp or @IDFD (both talented but wet behind the ears) and hoping they don't embarrass United or themselves?

Onana
AWB Lindelof Shaw Dalot/AN Other

That's enough to give anybody nightmares!

Or Malacia maybe?

If the club can find a replacement and a buyer he'll leave in January, he isn't going to win his place back under ETH.

I did hear a fairly reliable journalist claim on a podcast that the move to West Ham was blocked by Utd in the summer. He was never given permission to talk to them even after the fee was agreed because Utd had to find the replacement first.

West Ham eventually got tired of waiting and pulled out.

Banging on about his win percentage isn't going to help him with Utd fans.

Last season his record when starting was
Europa League - started 3 games lost 3 games
FA Cup - started 3 games won 3 games
EFL Cup - started 2 games won 2 games
Premier League - started 8 games won 6 lost 2.

So he started 16 in total won 11 and lost 5.

Most of the games he started that we won were against teams that finished in the bottom half of the table.

Think it's good that he's come out and said the deal to West Ham was never really on because of Utd, it wasn't him rejecting the move or demanding pay offs from Utd that stopped it happening.

Few clubs rumoured to be in for him in Jan

Dilema, we want to sell him, but with our current injury list, not sure we can let him go. Lindelof is always on the verge of injury.

I think we'd need a replacement, rumoured to be chasing Guehi

To me the solution here is you buy a young centre back who's ready to replace Varane either in January or in the summer. We can't keep messing about with his injury problems.

Then bring in another squad player for the summer. Maguire, Varane and Evans probably shouldn't be at the club next season.

The club has the option player cannot reject it.

Utd could be using it as an attempt to get a transfer fee in the summer.

Did the same with AWB last season so wouldn’t guarantee he’s still here next season.

And at the moment we are woefully short of players with the strength of character and mentality that he shows.

With Maguires contract though it doesn't incentivise him to leave. He's on £180k a week. Someone isn't going to offer him anywhere near that.

He'll be here next season. Which I have no issue with but he should be an emergency back up. Doesn't have the pace to play high up the pitch.

He gets that for 1 year also with no CL football we hear players take a 25% hit. I suspect there will be another hit if there’s no European football at all. So that 1 year might not be as fruitful as it would appear.

Also, if he moved club and accepts a lower wage he will likely get a signing bonus at the new club.

Utd may well top up his wages for that year so that he’s not actually losing out. It was suggested we did something similar with AWB and some others who left.

Amorim seems to quite like him and I don’t think we can really prioritise more centre backs this summer. He’s got to sort other areas first so another season of Maguire might be a short term fix so he can try to sort out the goal scoring.

Agree with you. It is like the DeGea issue. Getting rid of him was not a priority at that time. We needed players in other positions a lot more and is the same now. Maguire probably has been the best defender so far this season. We need to get rid of players like Rashford, Zirkzee, Eriksen, Casemiro a lot more than we need to get rid of Maguire. I have always said in the past that we should sell him but give credit to him he has come back strongly. The day Rashford told him to feck off and he did not do anything was the day I felt that he lost his grip. I am not sure if we can sell Victor either as we are down to 4 CBs without him. I would sell Shaw and Malacia as well as they have been injured all the time.

If there’s decent offers and he’s willing to take then he should go.

He isn’t part of the future he’s part of the past.

Lindelof and Evans are out of contract this summer and both likely to go so it may just be that he’s a squad player for next season even on his big wage.

he is not going to be a squad player. He is going to be a regular next season. We have bigger issues in other areas than at CB. So we won't be buying another CB

Still think the 3 he goes with will be Yoro De Ligt Martinez.

If he can get Shaw fit he will use him as a centre back, same with Maz on the other side.

Maguire I think would be a squad player but if he played well he’d be in the team.

The other issue is his injuries he’s missing a lot more games than he used to

In the PL his physicality and his heading ability is needed. Yoro is still an unknown player. As for Shaw when has he been fit for a while?

Just think his time has been and gone.

We’ve invested so much money in Yoro we’ve got to give him the time to develop.

De Ligt is basically a younger Maguire a good but not great centre back.

Martinez in the one that worries me hopefully it’s just taking a bit of time to shake off the injury.

Shaw is just a body in the squad that you can use when he’s fit but you can’t have a plan that relies on him.
