Harry Maguire to leave?

£20m doesn't give you much to play with in terms of signing a replacement.

Utd also still have £27m to pay from an FFP point of view so they'll want £30m minimum to try and cover that.

If he leaves he needs to be replaced.

I think this is the right sort of ball park 30m fixed with another 5m of realistic add ons is a good deal.

Maguire is going to have to accept a pay cut though.

I think this is a good move for everyone involved.

He's 30 years old and he's coming off 2 fairly poor seasons by his own standards.

Him being at the club has become toxic for everyone involved a fresh start will do everyone some good.

Hopefully he gets a good round of applause on his return and he got his moment lifting the League Cup at Wembley.

take what we can, he won;t get minutes. but we might need a young CB to replace him. I posted something a while ago about two we were looking at, so maybe one of those will come in.

I think if Maguire is replaced it will need to be someone relatively cheap that can cover for Martinez if he's not available.

I don't think Evans is that player. They might decide to keep Alvaro Fernandez around as another left back option which leaves Shaw as the 4th choice centre back and cover for Martinez.

Good move for all parties. No doubt he will be first choice at West Ham so that will also help keep his England spot as well - unless his form continues on a downward trend.

Look at us behaving like an actual football club and selling players who are surplus to requirements to fill areas of need. We've had this in our locker for the last decade and never bothered to crack it out?

In other news, Thank God for David Moyes, and there's a phrase I never thought I'd ever say.

Not sure it’s off - think it’s still being discussed. I think it’ll go through, Harry would be stupid to not move on at this point.

Sounds like he wants Utd to pay up some of his contract as West Ham can't match his wages.

He has two years left on his deal worth £190k a week, West Ham are probably offering him around £120k so my guess is he wants Utd to make up the difference.

Either that or he's stalling and seeing if other clubs come in.

if this has fallen through due to him wanting an excessive pay out from united. They need to drop him from match day squad.

If Chelsea can spend all that money I'm sure we can find 30m for Pavard

Really? The club can either honour his contract or not. It's the club out of order not wanting to match his wages and expecting him to take a cut to suit them. Why should he bail them out of their screw up? Would you leave £4m a year on the table you were entitled too? Or leave your job for a 40% pay cut?

Andy Mitten who tends to be clued in on Utd stuff said the reason this deal hasn't moved forward is Utd won't give him permission to talk to West Ham until they find a replacement. West Ham were told the fee is acceptable but Utd needed time to find a replacement.

If the Pavard deal is no longer an option because Bayern won't sell then it may take a little bit longer.

If Maguire doesn't want to leave there's nothing we can really do about it just all got to be professional about it.

He isn't in the team at the moment and he doesn't deserve to be so he can be on the bench and if he gets playing time then he needs to do his best.

I wouldn't rule out other parties said in another thread Mings is probably out for the season would they be tempted to match the West Ham bid for Maguire?

My point is, if he wants to play hard ball so can we, and he can watch the world cup on his TV.

Of course he doesn't have to go, but that shouldn't mean we have sub standard players in our squad. Buy what we need to improve us. Don't put up with having a weak squad because someone wants stupid money from us. And we wont buy until he leaves.

It's nothing to do with him having a pay cut, he can stay. But we still need to replace him, whether he stays or goes

Sounds like Maguire knows he has all of the leverage and is playing hard ball. United need him off the books to fund further purchases and he's coming out with this to put pressure on United to pay up his wages.

Hopefully. Sort it out and get him out of here.

I think if he stays sadly things are only going to get worse for him with our fans.

I just don't see his performances turning around at Utd he needs a run of 5-10 games where he doesn't put a foot wrong and currently when he's playing he's making mistakes.

His statement is clearly PR spin, and has been mentioned above, a lever to get the club to improve his severance package. I would hope he is intelligent enough to realise he is clearly not in the manager's plans and if he wants any chance of making an England squad then he needs to move to another club.

Well yeah we do have more than our fair share of morons.

Quick question for those who want Maguire out so much.

After 5/6 games we are well off the pace in the League, the injuries are mounting, Varane is one of those injured and Martinez is serving a 3-match ban for a straight red, we're playing Burnley(A), Palace(H) Brentford(H), then Sheff Utd(A) who will all bombard our box for 90 minutes, who do you want to partner Lindelof, Shaw is not an option as he's needed at left-back, and not really an option anyway if you are honest, so who do you want alongside Lindelof and let's be honest he's not ideal when it comes on top, Maguire or the latest match of the day player that looks great in a heavily edited youtube video? There's only one answer but you probably just don't want to admit it.

Two words - Eric Bailly. ;)

Maguire isn’t a bad defender by any means but his confidence is shot at this club, he’s a bag of nerves every time he steps onto the field. That’s not even a main dig at him because the idiotic fans who get on his back are also very much to blame.

If we were down to the bare bones then yes we would have to play him but Lindelof and Shaw would be my picks ahead of him right now.
