If you or I were in that position, yeah, we'd stick around for the extra cash because going from thousandaires to multi-millionaires is life changing. For Maguire, it's a matter of going from a multi-millionaire to a slightly less multi-millionaire.I don't think anyone could blame him for refusing to walk away from the paypacket. You'd be crazy to leave a gauranteed £10m on the table and earn half the wages elsewhere.
I've taken pay cuts to switch positions before because the new job's pay was still decent and the actual work was more enjoyable. I'd suspect Maguire would feel the same. If he has a good financial advisor who invests his money properly, he can make up the difference over time.
